They are a local band where I live in Texas. I loved "Rubberneck"
I was upset when they broke up. They were a very good band.
Does anyone eles remember them?

I'm from Texas too, and I've heard some of their stuff, mostly just what they played of them on the radio though, because I was never very impressed by them. Where from Texas are they from?

I think they're from Austin.
The Toadies were great. I heard they were getting back together though. Maybe it was just to do a tour. I can't remember the exact details. Todd is in a band called the Burden Brothers. It some good stuff.

No, the Toadies all hailed from Fort Worth, or Foert Werth, if you're a stupid cowboy. But yeah, they broke up in late 2001 reportedly due to bass player Lisa Umbarger's charity commitments and rumored disputes with Todd Lewis. They briefly re-formed (w/out Umbarger) late last year to do some shows for the newly refurbished club Trees in Deep Ellum. Saw the Toads live a good number of times, and they were in fact a smashing live group, but unfortunately they were unable to duplicate the success of 1994's Rubberneck on their 2001 release, Hell Below, Stars Above, and they separated. Todd Lewis' new band The Burden Brothers features Taz Bentley, formerly of Reverend Horton Heat, on drums, and other rotating members of Baboon and Pinkston.

It didn't have the same mainstream success but, I think HBSA is every bit as good as Rubberneck.

the title song HBSA kicks sooo much ass!! Possum Kingdom is a classic song as well.

Is the second album really as good as the first? I`ve always thought about getting it.
Did they change much from the first record?

There are songs on HBSA that come close to, if not to rival the material of Rubberneck. It's a good, solid record. Toadies: Live from Paradise is essential if you're a die hard fan. There is also a full album of as yet unreleased tracks that were originally intended to be the follow up for Rubberneck, but it was scrapped after not being up to frontman Todd Lewis' own par. I've heard that those particular recordings will either be released in the near future or can be found at a few "underground" spots in Deep Ellum.

IMO it is. They are both great albums. You can pick it up fairly cheap on ebay. Their sound is basically the same. Although HBSA proabably isn't as radio friendly as Rubberneck.

Woohoo! Glad to see there's some fellow Toadies fans here. Rubberneck was indeed a brilliant album. And I was crushed when they broke up :( . My favorite song of their's was probably Tyler.
PS to my fellow Texans, doesn't this state suck?
