LOPEZ LAWSUIT PAVES WAY FOR MOVIE ROLE
Jennifer Lopez is in talks to appear in a remake of 1983 movie "Flashdance" -- after movie bosses spotted her copying dance routines from the original in her "I'm Glad" video.
Bosses at Paramount, who made the original flick, were stunned by the promo -- which copies Jennifer Beals' "What a Feeling" routine almost entirely -- and demanded damages from J. Lo's record company Sony.
A source tells gossip site Pagesix, "The scenes were, frame by frame, the same. Paramount sent a legal letter to Sony claiming copyright infringement. There was nothing Sony could do -- it is the same -- so they are settling."
But they were so impressed with Lopez' moves, Paramount are now keen to remake the movie -- with her in the lead role.

There seems to be alot of people who hate her on these boards. I'm NOT one of them. Infact I think she's sexy and beautiful and a great actress. Infact I don't understand the hatred against her. Yes I've heard some bad stories but I've also heard some good stories. Which one is true? Beats me and I don't really care. However in interviews I've seen her she comes off as really nice and sweet. Could that be just for show? Maybe but I don't care either way. She's extremely talented. I have not seen Flashdance so I don't know if a remake is a good thing or not but I look forward to any movie she's in.

I think she's beautiful, as well, and early in her career, Lopez was just awesome (SELENA and OUT OF SIGHT, especially), but her roles have been becoming more empty and less challenging for her. The only upcoming film of hers where she looks to take on a meaty part is JERSEY GIRL. And to get back on topic, a FLASHDANCE remake? The movie is barely 20 years old, so why do they feel the need to do a remake (a sequel I could somewhat understand, but a remake?)? Yeesh...

Can't say im too thrilled of anything with J-Lo in it anymore,as far as being hyped and anxious to check it out...another remake, and im just wondering if ben affleck will make a cameo in it,they seem to be making every movie together. Not into the whole dance films with the exception of Saturday Night Fever.

Flashdance is one of my very favorite movies, I think J-Lo would be great in it, if a remake was made. She got the moves down pat in her video.

Doesn't Hollywood realize that you can only get away with the story of a female welder by day exotic dancer by night and have it be a hit ONCE?
Don't push your luck Hollywood!

I don't think they should remake Flashdance that is a big mistake imo. Although J-Lo would do the part justice the whole remake idea is stupid just leave flashdance as it is..
i didn't even think flashdance was good, a remake? plzzzz

What have we done to J-Lo? She's punnishing us for something. And why all the re-makes? Isn't her damn singing enough?

She should be renamed J-NOOOOOO! The word no seems to follow her name these days. For example: "Casablanca Remake with J-Lo" NOOOOO! "Flashdance Remake with J-Lo" NOOOOOO!!!
As for Flashdance, WTF? Flashdance was an 80s movie that wasn't that good.
A. Why remake a movie with such a basic plot (she fitted it in to a 3 mintue video for God's sake)?
B. Why remake it after less that 20 years?
C. Why J-NO? WHY!!!??? Has God forsaken us all?!

Let's take some time out and give praise to J-Lo's ass for keeping her career running for this long.

And what really pisses me off is on her making the video thing she says "this movie inspires me because its such an influencial movie of my generation" ok JLo was born in 1970 and the movie came out in the 80s sorry JLo a decade too early. If she goes after any of the John Hughs movies in her next video she needs to be shot, well she does anyways but still.

If she even thinks about remaking The Breakfast Club, the minute I hear the news, I'm going to my local gun shop and purchasing a fucking 44 magnum and I'm gonna personally make sure that movie is not made.

HAHAHA, I can't believe she didn't get permission to do the video, it's such blatant copyright infringement. She better lose the lawsuit or I'll yet lose even more faith in the human race.
Why would they remake the movie at all? Jennifer Beals was so hot in that, it's retarded to remake it with Jennifer Lopez ( I think the term J-Lo is so beyond retarded that I feel ill each time I use it).
Why can't she do something cool like an ANACONDA sequel "Snake in the Big City". That would be tight. She'd be like Ripley in Alien 3, but more of a bitch and not as useful.
I think there should be a law that whenever someone of power has a dumbshit idea for a movie and is prepared to put up money for it, they get a swift and heavy kick in the ass. It should get more painful each time. Maybe do it in a public place, too, so hopefully they lose their job for being a dumbass. There are so many great movie ideas from people who have no connections so the movie will never get made. Even talk of a Flashdance remake is a waste of time.
The only acceptable reasons for a remake are the director didn't have the budget to create his movie the first time (Hitchock remade a bunch of his films once he got popular) or if the technology for special effects or sequences that were once too dangerous to create did not exist (action/sci-fi movies only).
Flashdance is fine as it is, if anything, just replace that scene where a huge dude plays her body double while she's breakdancing before the judges.

From MSN (http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=140594):
Jennifer Lopez is being sued for copyright infringement for her video "I'm Glad," an homage to the 1983 film "Flashdance," by the real-life welder and dancer who was the inspiration for the film.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, alleges Lopez illegally depicted the life of Maureen Marder. She had refused to grant sequel rights or to permit any further use of her story or identity after the film became a success, according to her attorney Robert Hefling.
"She is penniless, disabled with a spinal injury, and trying to raise a teenage daughter," Helfing said in a news release. "Now her life story is on the screen again — and other people are profiting from it — with no acknowledgment of her rights, let alone fair compensation for her contribution."
The lawsuit claims that Lopez and her label Sony didn't have permission to make the 2003 video, which re-created distinctive scenes from the movie.
Marder is also seeking profits from Paramount and wants to be declared co-author and co-owner of the movie and screenplay copyrights.
Hefling said "Flashdance" owes its story to Marder, but she received only about $2,300 for the film while the movie helped launch the careers of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Adrian Lyne and writer Joe Eszterhas.
