Okay folks,

A fellow schmoe has proposed the idea of a music buying/selling/trading area within this very forum.

See HERE!!! (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51612)

Whilst I'm quite certain that a thread of this sort would be a welcome addition to the boards, I'm also fairly sure that it won't be without it's problems.

Feedback is what I'm after...I'm sure you all have plenty of fab suggestions...so just GO WILD!!!

How do you feel about this idea?

Do you predict it to be a success/failure?

What rules/regulations do you think should be imposed?

Where should responsibilities fall should an exchange be unsuccessful?

Any ideas and comments are appreciated.

Thanking You kindly.

Oooh I like this idea!

The horror movie trading forum has been going really well from what I've seen so I don't see anything that could go wrong with a cd one.

I'd be willing to take the time to post a list of what i'm willing to trade along with a list of what i'm willing to trade for.

I don't really have many CDs to trade or sell, but I think it's a cracking idea all on its own. I don't know if I would participate, but I think it'd create some great opportunities for those who want to.

I am very much for it

The only drawback I can think of is unsolicited PIRACY.

Okay problem one, currency exchange rate -- being here in that dirty land of Australia, one pound is approxiamtely three Australian dollars and one US dollar is about 4061 Australian dollars. I think I'll just about to be able to afford an eighth of one of your worst CD's or Mariah Carey's Glitter soundtrack in full -- actually you'll be paying me to take that CD.

And problem two, if we overcome such problems who exactly is going to pay for the postage and handling?

Oh well, I don't want any of your stinking merchandise anyway.

Now I don't wanna sound like some freakish Nazi nutcase. But I think that before anyone puts a price tag on one of thier Cd's they post a picture of it to show what kind of shape it's in. Because someone's idea of "great condition" might not exactly be mine.

I'm all for it, since I have plenty of shitty CD's I can't get much money for at the local music store. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures coming from this end of the world

Come to think of it....

This thread won't get my seal of approval.

There are so many other venues like ebay and stuff.

It would clutter the boards, I feel. And lead to disputes that, regardless of how you mods think won't be your problem, will become your problem.

I revert back to another suggestion I made some time ago. Maybe some people here will agree with me and we can start a committee.

I'd like to see a forum for CLASSIFIEDS

You could put up movies you have for sale through other web sites, CDS, games, books, etc....

Also, people could advertise their web sites....

Then it's not all about that.

We could share short stories, music we've made, post art...

If it sounds like a SPAM forum, well...

Then maybe these BUY/SELL/TRADE things aren't a good idea.

I think that this could be a good idea - after all the trading section in the Horror forums works really well, so why shouldn't the same thing be possible with CDs here?

I do think there need to be some hard and fast ground rules (see list below) but that as long as these are adhered to, then there shouldn't be a problem with those of us who welcome a forum like this using it effectively and responsibly. As for clogging up the board, I disagree - all of the trading will occur within this one thread! :)

OK, the rules I think we need are as follows:

> NO copies - only original CDs should be offered for sale through this forum. If the authorities suspected that pirated CDs were being traded through JoBlo then they could feasibly shut down the site, which is something that NONE of us want.

> Prices of CDs are up to the individual Schmoes who are selling them. If they're too high, they won't sell, it's that simple! There's always the option to haggle by way of PMs of course, but that's up to the individual seller if they want to open up that option. (IMO though I'd rather get a few quid for a CD that I never play than have it sit on my shelf forever!)

> Postage - this should be covered by the BUYER, much like on eBay. I do think though that the Schmoes selling the CDs should look only to cover their costs of shipping the CDs, and I'm sure that we could fairly quickly (with experience from the first few successful sales) come up with a guideline as to shipping costs. For example, I know from experience that to ship a single CD within the UK costs somewhere in the region of 47 pence, so after adding the price of a jiffy bag on top of that, it shouldn't cost more than £1.00 for P&P within the UK.

> Condition of CDs - only unscratched, playable CDs should be offered for sale/trade. Also, state the condition of the booklets and the CD case itself - once this info is available it's then up to the potential buyer whether they want it or not!

Overall, I say let's give it a go - if it doesn't work then at least we tried, but if it does, then we may just find that those elusive CDs that some of us are after are currently lying around unwanted in another Schmoe's collection!

i cant help but think its gonna be a bitch to enforce. and the exchange rates might be fun to play  :D

but no, i can see this leading to a bit of a ruckus to be honest

of course, i am pessimistic and a bit stupid, so just ignore me ;)

I trade horror movies with my fellow schmoe on the Horror Boards and its SO much fun. In fact, its slowly becoming a big hobby of mine. :)

in the case of EVERY trader I've ever dealt with, things can be worked out verrry easily.. I've also taken part in some wierd arrangements which have little to do with the normal 'guidelines' or ..laws. In fact, when I plan on trading, I end up chatting with the person for a few days before hand.

more importantly, every trader I've ever dealt with values the endeavour enough to be perfectly HONEST at all times!

****NOTE! I've traded Dubs/Boots over this forum and it is ABSOLUTELY common practice. I wont buy/trade burnt Cds cause I'm a snob, but I'd have NO problem swapping promos, LTDs, etc..

It gives a person NO room to barter, make a more suitable trade, or even talk preachy lawm'n bidness.

I'm all for it.

Mixed tape drives would probably be a bit if fun, too.. I must warn you, though.. I'm the Lord King fucking Bufu of mixed tapes! ;)
