Well, the remake fever in Hollywood continues, this time with a new version of the cult classic, The Wicker Man. The leading man in the new version will be none other than the always convincing Nicholas Cage, with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie apparantly being considered for other parts...I sense anger from a couple of schmoes coming ;)

Here's the story from Comingsoon...

"The Chicago Sun-Times talked to director Neil LaBute about the upcoming remake of the 1973 British film, The Wicker Man, which will star Nicolas Cage.

"The original was a horror film about a policeman [played by Edward Woodward] sent to a small island to investigate the disappearance of a girl who finds a pagan society," director Neil LaBute says.

LaBute says he's moving the story to America. "Cage is attached to play [the cop]. He winds up on this island that's a very matriarchal society run by women who are direct descendants of pilgrims."

Who will play the babes? "The women range in age from 10 to 50. I think Angelina [Jolie] and Winona [Ryder] would be great choices," he says."

Do they have to remake everything? What's next? A new Forrest Gump? Alien? I wouldn't be too surprised.

It appears nothing is sacred :( What's with all these remakes? C'mon Hollywood, some new ideas wouldn't hurt for once!

Sure.

Y'know, these remakes aren't such a bad idea after all.

I, for one, am actually looking forward to this remake. Cage is a great actor and the Americanized plot sounds interesting. But to be honest, I've never seen the original film.

I don't want to offend anyone who thinks this is an awful idea, but I am excited for it. Neil LaBute is a great director, and Cage has leading man chops. I would not be surpised if this was one of the more decent remakes.

I loved THE WICKER MAN, and a part of me is fearing this as well, but then again, Neil LaBute isn't exactly Michael Bay. He pays attention to dialogue as much as he does the directing process. And with Nic Cage on board...this could be kinda, sorta good.

Please don't kill me, BCV. :(

Adam...I hope I'm being pessimistic, but I'd write my will, if I were you.

Good luck! *hugs Adam*

Oh, and about that will... "James Logan" is spelled exactly how you'd expect it would. Y'know...just in case you wanna write my name or something. ;)

Hmm. I don't see why it has to be a remake as such. IMO the Wicker Man isn't really translatable to a Hollywood movie. The new (completely different!) concept does sound like the makings of a decent film but calling it a Wicker Man remake will piss people off unnecessarily
