A huge open-air concert by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN in MANCHESTER has finally been given the green light.

Organisers have sold 50,000 tickets for the May 29 gig at the Lancashire County Cricket Ground.

The local council had refused to grant a licence for the event, after residents voiced concerns about noise and crowd problems at previous concerts. The UEFA Champions League soccer final also takes place at Manchester United's neighbouring Old Trafford ground the night before, with a 67,000 capacity crowd certain.

But the cricket ground, SJM Concerts and Rock Steady Security successfully challenged the council's decision yesterday (May 8) at Trafford Magistrates Court.

Overruling the council decision, chairman of the board Timothy Jenkinson said the court had to "strike a balance between the rights of the residents and Lancashire County Cricket Ground".

He added: "We are extremely aware of the predicament of the local residents with regard to the disturbance caused by concerts of this type, sporting events and the growth of other activities in the locality.

"However, we have given a great deal of consideration to the profile of this particular artist and the maturity of the support which he attracts."

Further concerts at the cricket ground are planned , including the Move festival planned for July, where REM, Manic Street Preachers and The Charlatans are scheduled to headline.

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH

I can't afford to go. This would be the gig of a lifetime for me but I just can't afford it. DAMN!!! Probably sold out anyway.

Lie, cheat and steal to go! I've seen the Boss twice in concert, and I'm putting it mildly when I mention he puts on a helluva show.

Yeah, I agree with Paul.

I went there to see Robbie Williams. Had been waiting for ages to see him and got tickets the day they went on sale. I actually was ill at the time and managed to get out of hosp to see him but boy was I dissapointed. The whole set up was a shambles from security to refreshments then to top it off the stage was just plonked I think in the first available spot they could find and it was a real crap view from any angle. The place was a mess and I was utterley dissapointed. Im sure you will get to see him in a much better place, maybe it will take a while but I would save my money for another time.

I certainly wouldn't go there again to see anyone.

Hey the parking was even worse, I remember it took me 3 hours to get out of the parking place, that had charged me £10.00 to get into. When it came to the end of the night the security had pissed off and left everyone to get out themselves. It was every car for themselves I can tell you. I dont usually opt to drive but wasn't drinking so thought it would be easier. Jesus I really could have walked home hours before I'd even got out of my parking space. I dont think I will ever forget that concert, but not for the right reasons.
