Ok, how much does this movie kick ass. I can't explain it, but the first time you see it, you think it sucks, but the next day you gotta see it again.
I'm really surprised there isn't already a thread.
So what are some thoughts on it?
Hail to the King, baby

What's your favorite scene? I love it when the cabin starts going crazy with sounds and Ash's hand goes into the mirror.

honestly every scene in there is my favorite scene..
i liked when the chick was sitting there saying "we're gonna get you..we're gonna get you.."
what scared me the most when i was younger was the possesed girl they threw in the cellar and you could just see her head poking up while she was screaming and stuff.....AWESOME

Evil Dead proves true that creativity conquers over a high budget. This is truly one of the best horror films ever produced.

I had the pleasure of watching this film on the big screen a couple of weeks ago and it was great!

I love the Evil Dead. THough, the first time I watched it I fell asleep (it was around 3 am when it was started). A few weeks later I checked it out again and I was amazed by it. The Necronomicon edition DVD s one of my favorites.

Evil Dead is an amazing movie.
It's also a inspiration for many low budget directors

I actually think the low-budgetness is hilarious.
After hearing some stories about the trials of making the movie, I make kind of a game of pointing out the mistakes they couldn't avoid.
I wonder if it could have been any better with a budget, rather than borrowing a school camera from their friend.

I just watched this last night and hadn't seen it in years.... My god I love the camera work!!! That one zoom from outside to Ash's face impresses me every time.

Many threads over time have been posted on this, but it bears repeating that its a must see even if you end up not liking it. Also the shooting on the tight/low/no budget was harrowing--I can't say enough to read Bruce Campbell's autobiography If Chins Could Kill. There's a blow by blow recap of the entire shooting of this film that makes you realize how damn dedicated these film makers were to doing this thing.

I always wondered about the sales of this book. How did it do? I was thinking of this just last night when visiting some evil dead websites

I don't know how the sales went. I'm an avid Bruce Campbell fan, and I went out and bought the hardback as soon as it came out. I was overall pleased at the insights, hardships, and comedic moments of the low budget industry. And if you like Sam Raimi, you get all kinds of moments that are classic in between the guys as they were growing up as buddies. If you don't want to buy it, at least check it out at the library. It is a very entertaining read.

The film has jsut been re-released in theaters in france, in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first release here. New copy all opver the country like if it was a major blockbuster. To see it in good conditions on the big screen is a real pleasure. Still a masterpeice, bravo Sam !

this is one of my all time favorite movies. the acting's cheesey but who cares? the camera shots were so great, my favorite was when it starts out behind ash and goes up and over his head (still tryin to figure out how the hell he did that) the story and the "blood, bile, and other body fluids" was so great, i actually almost gag in the end scene every time i watch, oh but the movie is so worth it...favorite lines-> "whatta we do about shelly?" "we're gonna bury her" "we can't bury shelly she's a friend of ours" lol and "OH YOu bass-turds why are you toruting me like this? WHY!" LOL that part's so great. favorite scene tho is in the basement when blood runs down the projector screen and the music starts, that part freaks me out a little

One of the best horror series ever created. My favorite scene is when the demon starts guessing the cards right then collapes and then stabs(I think Linda) in the ankle.
Out of 10 I give it a 15.

I still consider the scratching Ash's ankle to the bone to be the most painful piece of cinema to watch... well... that was intended to be painful to watch.

although Pet Semetary could NEVER compare to the awesomeness that is Evil Dead,
I always winced at the scene when the crazy little kid sticks the scalpel in Fredd Gwinns achilles hell...Damn that looks painful
I really don't like The Evil Dead at all, I think the sequel (which is essentially a remake) is a lot better, and benefits from being more tongue-in-cheek. ED1 is strictly an MST3K type thing for me.

that's one of the best things about this movie tho, it's so low budget that part of the fun in watchin it is making fun of it...but still it's really a good creative movie, i mean especially ***spoilers ahead if ya haven't seen evil dead yet****
when ash goes in the basement towards the end and the record player starts up and then the projector comes on and the blood runs down the screen, i thought that scene was brilliantly eerie

I, for some odd reason, hated it the first time I saw it but now it's one of my all-time favorites.

I think that's how it is for most people. I thought is was so crappily made first time I was watching it, but there was no denying that I was jumping like a little girl on crack. The next day I was like "I've got to see that movie again RIGHT NOW" so I watched it again and it's been one of my all time favorites since.

I think Evil Dead is the best horror movie ever made bar-none. I love all of it but if i had to pick a favorite scene it would have to be while Cheryl changes during their "psycic" test

I adore this movie. One of the best horror flicks of all time, only surpassed by one or two other horror flicks. Nothing else can touch it...
Actually, it's still one of the only films that every once and awhile, I pull out, turn off all the lights late at night, pop it in, and scare the living shit out of me. One more than one occasion, I'm tempted to get up and turn the lights back on... Only two or three movies can do that to this "seen there, done that" mind of mine, and this is one of them. Pure utter genius at it's best!

This movie and Halloween are the two most watchable horroh flicks ive seen...well I quess I have to say the entire ED trilogy, but mostly the first. Something about them, no matter how many times you have seen it, it never gets old.
