Quite a few of the performance's were shown last Friday on a Late Show Special (BBC2).
Good stuff it was too with some top notch stuff.

Highlights for me were QOTSA, At The Drive In (MENTAL!!)
and a kick ass performance from Primal Screamhttp://www.geocities.com/rjwilliams35/headbang.txt

That's a wonderful show, reminiscent of the syndicated show that David Sanborn hosted in the late 80's, early 90's.

I would buy this just for the Mazzy Star and Garbage performances.

This is a mighty fine purchase. I'm halfway through my first viewing and so far the stand out performances have come courtesy of At The Drive-In, The Von Bondies, P J Harvey and The Jesus & Mary Chain (obviously). At The Drive-In were just fucking insane. They managed to give off more energy than a fucking nuclear explosion during their mangled performance of 'One Armed Scissor'. I was well impressed. The Von Bondies I hadn't heard anything from before and they absolutely blew me away with a performance of their song 'Lack Of Communication'. Blinding!!! P J Harvey was just fucking class. She has such a terrific voice that sounds even better live than it does on album. She did 'Big Exit' and her performance just made me want to see her live. As for The Jesus & Mary Chain. They gave a wonderfully ragged, feedback laden performance of their brilliant Snakedriver. Fuck!!! I really miss this band. Anyway...the only bad track so far has come courtesy of the fucking Stereophonics. They are one of the most cuntishly boring bands I have ever had the misfortune of seeing perform live. It didn't help that it was one of their most mediocre songs on this disc. A couple of their earlier songs are actually quite cool.

Ok...the last half of the DVD was pretty much amazing. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (who I like) did 'Spread Your Love' and it was just fine and dandy (although putting BRMC right after the Mary Chain was perhaps a mistake...it just highlights the fact that their just ain't as good). I like The Cardigans' 'My Favorite Game' a whole lot and their performance was spot on. Rollins Band are always fun to watch and their performance of 'On My Way To The Cage' did nothing to change my mind on this. Mercury Rev's performance of 'Goddess On The Highway' was sublime. What a fucking band!!! The White Stripes chipped in with 'Hotel Yorba'. Whoaa!!! I am really looking forward to seeing them live in July. Never really liked Alice In Chains and their performance of 'Them Bones' did nothing to change my mind. They could have picked a better song from Garbage. They've been on the show a bunch of times. 'I Think I'm Paranoid' is pretty good. Just not as good as Garbage get though. FUCK ME!!! The Afghan Whigs were stunning. They did 'Something Hot' from their 1969 album. I wish I had saw these dudes live before they split. Next up was Dick Dale with 'Misirlou'. This was surprisingly enjoyable. For an old due he laid down some dirty chords. The Vines did "Get Free" and it was like an explosion of energy. Cool!!! Porno For Pyros did 'Orgasm' with a ballet dancer doing her stuff while the band strutted their stuff. Mesmerising!!! New Order gave a rocking performance of 'Crystal'. The Soundtrack Of Our Lives then blasted through 'Sister Surround' before Mazzy Star stole the whole fucking show. Hope Sandoval has been blessed with the voice of an angel and the sultry looks of my imaginary girlfriend. I had the pleasure of seeing Mazzy Star live about six years ago. They were amazing. The Black Crowes 'Twice As Hard' was very welcome despite the presence of the Stereo"Fucking"phonics again. Last of all was Primal Scream. They tore through 'Accelerator' like it was their one last chance for salvation.

All in all this DVD was a very worthwhile purchase. If you can get it. GET IT!!! Only three tracks were underwhelming. Most of the rest were blindingly good.

4.5/5

Jools Holland is the coolest show to watch for good music.

And also a pretty damn good way to see in the new year occasionally.

Might borrow this DVD off a friend...why did I say might?!
