Do you schmoes remember this film ? I recently watched the third episode and i'm so ashamed but...I found it not that bad! I haven't seen the 2nd one and don't remember the 1st but it's not the worst slasher serie ever made. Good chicks , screams, some gore and a little suspense. What are your thoughts?

Ahh yes.. Slumber Party Massacre. What a wonderful piece of crap this was. I love all 3 movies. Not well made or even good but fuck they are entertaining to NO fucking end. Part 2 is so goddamn badass it hurts. I love them.

i have the 1st one on dvd (the claw, you're right - it had the trailer for the 2nd one on there and it does indeed look badass). when i watched it for the first time it seemed to fit my expectations, until i got to the very end. the part where the killer is about to kill the lead girl, and he's standing over her with his drill placed suggestively between his legs, and he says something like "you always act like you don't want it, but you really do." now, i know that the boxcover was a tipoff that this movie was aware of the sexual politics of the horror genre, but after i heard the killer say that i went back and thought of all the kills in the movie, and it seems as though each person who was killed was defying conventional definitions of femininity and masculinity and the killer had to use his drill (i.e. penis - hello freud!) to get them back in line. now, i've only seen the movie once and i came up with this theory retrospectively, so i may not be completely correct. i think i'll do a little digging to see if i'm on the right track. be back later...

ok, so i just speed-watched this flick (god i love dvds) and i think my theory holds. this is the first time i've done a body count for a flick, so i apologize if i missed anything. anyway, each kill reflects the killer's belief in traditional gender roles - that women should be passive and virginal, and men should be aggressive and independent.
needless to say, this is gonna contain MASSIVE SPOILERS:
kill #1: telephone repair woman
this is just obvious. women shouldn't have jobs, let alone jobs in a male dominated field. give her the drill!
#2: girl who forgot something in her locker
well, she forgot something, so she's not the perfect little girl. also, i think she's the girl who said she didn't want to go to the party because she wanted to study for a test she had on monday. a girl interested in education and success? drill time! plus, she had terribly grown out black roots in her hair - she don't conform to the beauty myth.
#3: guy watching the lead girl's house over the weekend
he didn't stop the girls from behaving in an unladylike manner - drinking and smoking weed. allowing such craziness is grounds for the drill, baby.
#4: boyfriend
sure, this guy was eager to have sex, but he wasn't eager enough! he was too nice! he should have just taken her then and there. boy meets drill.
#5: girlfriend
she agreed to have sex with a man? never! the only penetration she's gonna get is from a well hung drill.
#6: pizzaman
ok, this is the only place where my theory falls short. i could only come up with two ways that the pizzaman was breaking with male or female conventions. one, he's allowing the girls to eat fatty food that will make them gain weight and therefore make them unattractive to men. or two, he's gay.
i just don't know.
#7 & #8: a couple of guys
both of these guys are major wimps. plus, right before they are killed, they are running to get help from women. men asking women for help? that ain't allowed. however, you can ask the DRILL if you want to!
#9: girl
dude, she totally disrespected the dead pizzaman when she ate his pizza. men must be respected in death too! would you like a little pepperoni on your pizza? how 'bout a little DRILL?
#10: girl
this chick brought booze and pot to the party. hello, good little girls don't do that stuff. here's a big fat drill for you to smoke, sister.
#11: p.e. teacher
same as #1. she's a woman holding down a man's job.
however, in line with the feminist leanings of the movie's writer and director, the killer himself is eventually penetrated (and killed) by a strong female character, effectively washing his form of gender repression down the drain.

The first one is good, almost a classic in some ways. I wont discuss part 2, as I hate that movie almost as much as "the Item". Part 3 was not as bad as the second, and I liked how they actually tried to have a plot involved (not much of a plot, but it was there)

Gretchen, you're thinking, analyzing, and theorizing way too much. It's just a movie, for God's sake. Just watch it and have fun. It's a great trio of films.

Hey analyzing is fun! Isn't that what horror lovers are supposed to do? :)
As for slumber part massacre
The first one is a classic, great fun. Real cheesy, good kills.
The second...ug, too corny for my tastes although watchable. I mean, a drill in the guitar, and the music? *shudders*
I turned part 3 of because it was the worst acted film I have ever seen, or at least on the top five list.

hey, maybe analyzing the subtext of things ain't fun for you, but it is for me.
thanks for backing me up, ERIN_LoJ.

Gotta go with Erin and Gretchen on this one. For some people thinking, analyzing, and theorizing about a movie is fun for them. Also, if I remember right, Gretchen is majoring is psychology and for her this is not only fun, but helps keep her in practice too.

kaos to the rescue! thanks much, man. i actually started grad. school this past week (going for my masters in psych.) and part of the reason that i analyzed this movie is because i had been studying all damn day and i was still keyed up and primed to rip something up.

Hey Gretchen, I wasn't trying to diss you or anything. I was just saying that analyzing a series like SPM isn't always the way to go because, let's face it, as much as I love these movies (each one is very near and dear to my heart), they're bad movies. Yes, I can admit that. But the type of bad where it's fun to watch and that's what movies like this are. They're fun. Something you watch when you want to have a good time, not stay awake half the night trying to figure out the killer's motives. I mean, it's not The Matrix, for Heaven's sake.

I own the first - one and it is very enjoyable and entertaining.
The body count is pretty high, nudity galore and a well directed plus black humor galore.
Gore Encore est - ce que tu viens de France où du Canada francophone ?
Aimes - tu My Bloody Valentine ( mon slasher préféré !!!! j'ai 26 ans )
et Chopping Mall ( super cool et très divertissant )

Much good luck to ya Gretchen! My first teaching job is this summer, and it'll be a little strange. After all I can't give a lecture on horror movies to a bunch of 7 and 8 year olds, and even if I could I don't think starting them out on The Slumber Party Massacre is the way to go. :p

i agree that analyzing bad horror movies isn't always a useful way to spend your time, but since the writer "slumber party massacre" is a well-known feminist author, i thought that looking for feminist themes in the movie wouldn't be too much of a stretch. but trust me, i ain't gonna be trying to figure out the significance of the grandfather's ghost in "troll 2" anytime soon.
no hard feelings, The_Driller_Killer.
kaos, good luck with your job. i work with kids at that age as well (they're autistic though) and even though it's difficult it can be really rewarding too.
