View Full Version : When are boobs more then boobs

Here's another thing that pisses me off. Actresses who try to be more then what they are. (like Holli Berry or Denise Richard or Carmen Electra - if you can call her an actress.)
These, and females like them, are good for one thing - tight or wet tee shirts, skimpy outfits, total cheesecake. But when I see Denise playing a "Nuclear Physicist" or Holle trying to play in serious rolls I just roll me eyes and wonder who told them they can act past their breats? I am not saying in any way that ever female actress is there for boobs, just females like those above.
Take Jennifer Tilly or Meg Ryan, they can act. Julia Roberts, well that debatable, but I can't think of too many movies where she actually sucked in it, and once you get past the wonder bra Erin Brokovich is a really good movie. But Denise, Holle and Carmen - time to face facts. You are there for the cheesecake, for the freeze frame, for the "we need a sexy woman with DSL and curves that can't stop a truck." In the 80's actresses like this would be first on the menu for Micheal, Jason or Freddy.
When I see them go on talk shows talking about how wonderful their parts are, I want to spit up. Haven't they learned anything from Tracy Lords. And Halle, if you fugg a man on camera its porn. Monster Ball (which is the only movie in history that won't illicit a porno counterpart) was no better then Hustler's barely legal. It time we be honest and stop pretending the cheesecake is anything more then what it is, cheesecake.

Holli?

And Halle Berry is a great actress.

Well, that's debatable as well. I think she's rather overrated and didn't deserve that Oscar. That way I wouldn't have to suffer through that awful Oscar acceptance speech.
Anyway, everyone has their role in movies, unfortunately for some actresses it's just the T&A part. But I find it more amusing rather than disgusting when the actresses try broaden their range without the potential to do so.

sounds more like anyone that gets nekkid isn't a good actress in your book?

Agreed. It's not just because you don't think they're the best at what they do that they're just fuckable meat.
(Although, as Lyle'll probably note if passing by this thread, we do sometimes joke that way. ;) )

Well said Bake...
I think calling Monster's Ball PORN is a tad ignorant if truth be told.
Halle didn't "FUCK" anyone as far as I'm aware...
The scene was realistic, tasteful yet erotic (in my eyes at least), raw, extremely moving...and PIVOTAL to the movie.

I applaud Dafixer for putting out the fact that Denise Richards is NOT a good actress. She goes topless in Wild Things, marries Charlie Sheen, and became the worst Bond girl ever! She is a horrible actress... period!

I'm with Bake. I'd say that Halle Berry can act "past her breasts." Denise Richards...you may have a point there. I don't believe that Carmen Electra has ever professed to being anything more than "cheesecake." She hasn't taken any particularly challenging roles that I'm aware of. I'm sure that she would admit that her body is her best asset.

The sex in Monster's Ball wasn't really meant to be erotic. It was more a form of escape from the characters shitty ass lives.
That's about all I have to add.

Yes but are we forgetting a little film from last year called Die Another Day? In which her performance would be best described lightly as horse shit -- of course her dialogue helped little... but after that embarassing misfooting it would be very hard to see her as a great actress.

i am a huge bond fan, and i thought the whole of die another day was a bit pants at times. i thought the Jinx character was poorly written, and that halle did the best she could with some really crappy lines. dont let one less than great performance sway you

i agree with bake. i think thats the 5th time this month ;) but i do agree with it. denise richard may not be a brilliant actress, but, hey, you cant everything in life. and i half thought she wasnt bad in The world is not enough and Starship troopers...

This is pretty damn abstract, and I really don't see any footing.
Halle Berry is regarded by many to be an A-list actress. She has won awards, is well-paid, respected by her peers.
Dennis Richards, Traci Lords, and others mentioned aren't exactly thought of that way.
So the only connection I see, is that they have done topless. Okay, so you also like naked women....
Alright, so I'm not too sure what you are on about.
It isn't that they are bad actresses, because not all of them are. It's not because they are nude. Who really is going to disown something because of nudity?
Okay, so you are upset that they are nude, and attempting to be good actresses.
Like you said, "Try to be more than what they are." Okay, now you are onto something.
I hear you brother. Down with 'em. Put em in chains and whip 'em hard, not let 'em do anything but be nekid, and working doin' what us mastas need bein' them to do. Um-hm. Wez be keepin' 'em in their place. Yeah.... Yeah.... Make 'em haves the names wez be wantin' 'em to have too. Like not changin' it when they get married, or stop doin' porn. Nah-uh. They stick with the names we be given 'em.

Wait a minute... No, man.
I don't agree. I don't agree at all.
Everyone! Freedom to the people! They can try to take our livelyhood, but they cannot take our spirits. Rise up. You, Lefty, grab that one's head. I'll grab the one on the right. Then we'll knock them together, and you jump out of THAT window, I'll jump out of THIS one. Okay, ready on 3....
1... 2...
Oh yeah, and I agree with Bake.

Firstly, I must applaud Bubba. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile mate.
Secondly, with all due respect, the only part of your argument I agree with is that Denise Richards isn't a brilliant actress. But, honestly, does she claim to be? Drop Dead Gorgeous? Undercover Brother? Wild Things? Valentine? I've yet to see her try to be in an Oscar drama or the like.
Also, to claim that any movie where two people quote unquote "fuck" is porn is downright ludacris. Monster's Ball, for example, is not porn (I don't know a soul who in dire need to get off would say "Ooh, Monster's Ball...sexy!"). Realism in film doesn't mean porn, as long as it's not just thrown in to have a token "sex scene".
Oh, yeah, and I too, definitely agree with Bake :)

Lindsey's boobs are a great work of art! They make me fell better when I've had a bad day. :)

I think that Halle Berry's nudity/ skimpy clothing in movies does show where her priorities are. She even admits that she did the topless thing in Swordfish because she got paid quiet a bit of money to do so. I am not going to say that I didn't enjoy this to a certain degree but I do find it sort of sad.
Look at the actresses today, I'm sure many of the more beautiful ones would love to be taken more seriously but there looks and producers hold them back. They are treated like pieces of meat because it is what they think people want.
