Hello all...
With urbanlegend23's permission and blessing, I have decided to do a tournament for the first season of the amazing show 24, as well as for the first and second seasons of Alias. I wasn't sure if there would be enough people to participate for either of these, but for 24, I went to the 24 Thoughts and Reviews thread and checked how many people seem to watch it and follow up:
darkface, buck turgidson, noisy_brut, jackson13, vastlynne, A Canadian ThereWolf, Scarface98.9, Antonio, Highspeed, psudoazn, BakeTheMooCow, imagemaker, Jason Lives, RicochetShaw, uncle_el, Kaufman, David Fincher, ilovemovies, WhiskyDrinker, Scorchlord, MyClone, SkyNet, redwing77, Memento88, Jim H, The Sandman, SlimX, movie fan #1, vtadave
Including me, that's at LEAST 30 schmoes who follow this show, so without further ado, I decided to do a tournament for 24...
Alias however I'm not sure about right now. I'd like to do a tournament for both seasons, but I'm not sure how many would participate, therefore, if any of you here happen to be fans of Alias as well, please PM me to tell me whether you would participate or not in voting for Alias episodes, or else just write it here under your vote.
I'm going to be PMing people who I found in the Alias threads as well to see if any of them would be participating if i do go through with it.
However, back to our subject, which is the First season of 24.
I'm going to warn people to be wary of spoilers in this thread, and especially with the descriptions that will be given of certain episodes. (I'm going to be using the descriptions that are in the dvd box set mostly)
Here's the list:
Season One

***Note: in keeping with the same format as urbanlegend23's tournament, i've decided to randomly select episodes...which is easier to do with 24 seeing as they are all just numbered :p.
Match 1:
04:00am-05:00am
Written by: Chip Johannessen
Directed by: Winrich Kolbe
http://www.isitonyet.net/IsItOnYet/media/photos/season1/05/handsup.jpg
Description: Jack follows the arrested shooter to the police station in hopes of interrogating him only to find that Mason has arrived and taken control of the situation. But when the shooter says he will talk only to Jack, Jack learns he must break the shooter out of jail in order to learn who has kidnapped Kim. Back at the hotel, Senator Palmer learns more about the threatened news leak that could hurt his campaign.
vs
11:00am-12:00pm
Written by: Howard Gordon
Directed by: Stephen Hopkins (regular series director)
http://www.isitonyet.net/IsItOnYet/media/photos/season1/12/hiding.jpg
Description: While Alberta Green pressures Nina and Tony to reveal Jack's whereabouts, York leads Jack to Gaines compound where Jack attempts to rescue Teri and Kim without backup from CTU. Meanwhile, Senator Palmer's plan to prevent a murder fails and he begins to suspect his wife may have a hand in the conspiracy.
For me, 4am was a great episode (8/10), with lots of tension...Jack being forced to help the shooter escape...I also liked the Maureen/Palmer meeting...filled with lots of tension, etc...but 11am was slightly better.
It was pretty much almost the ending of the first arc of the story, and so the storyline was finally moving on at a rapid pace, with Jack, Rick, Teri, and Kim trying to escape. I was thankful that the kidnapping sequence was finally being finished (as it was almost about to wear out its welcome), and being finished in a great way. I love 24 because it can be many different things...some episodes are action, while others are drama, etc. I'd say that 11am was a great episode leaning more towards action. Although admittedly, it was around here, in hte middle of the season that I was getting slightly tired of the Palmer thread as well...
Anyway, I vote for 11:00am - 12:00pm (8/10), a great episode of 24.

well JCPheonix, u can count on me for alias and 24, as i watch both religiously. Anyway, my vote goes to 11-12, i watched it again recently on the S1 Dvd,s and it one of my favorites of teh season.

Both are great but my vote definately goes to 11 Am- 12 PM.
You can count me on Alias as well. Actually the only episode I've seen in season 1 is part 2 of the Quentin Tarantino ep. But I've seen all or pretty much all of season 2. So count me on for season 2.
My vote: 11:00am-12:00pm
This episode is where my hate and disgust towards Alberta Green really took off. Man, what a bitch! I wanted to slap her. :D Plenty of good stuff happening in this hour. 8/10

great idea!!
tough decision
im gonna have to be like everyone else and say 11-12pm
now if u had picked 3-4am with that ending where "the shooter" tells jack "if u ever want to see ur daughter again ull get me out of this" or something to that effect (thats correct right?)...i might have went the other way cuz i remember freaking out about that

Description: Jack arrives at Palmer's hotel with a phone on which Drazen will call and ask Palmer to unfreeze $200 000 000 of his assets. When Palmer tells Jack that Drazen knows that's impossible, Jack grabs the phone and thorws it of the balcony. It explodes seconds later. Realizing Drazen will never give up, Jack suggests having the tv news report that Palmer died in the explosion, leaving Jack to offer himself up in exchange for Kim.
OOOOH, this is a really hard one...two episodes I really, really enjoyed. The first one (which is the 2nd ep into the season) had some really great suspense, especially in that "I.D. scene" where Jack rips off the finger :p...
the funny thing is that these two episodes are the Nina episodes...both have Nina revealed as the traitor at the end, the first one falsely, and the second one really.
i loved the twist at the end of the second episode, but it worked just as well in the second last episode of the season (tho at first it seems like there are some inconsistencies...). I'd give the second episode 9/10
now this second to last episode was great as well, I loved everything about it, especially the cellphone thing, and teh little trick Jack did...and of course that twist (yet again :p) 10/10 would be my rating for this.
...i really love both of these episodes so much, and i don't want to see either go, but if i had to pick, it'd be 10:00pm-11:00pm...like i said, these are possibly two of my favorite episodes in this season, although i love almost every episode in the first season...
10:00pm-11:00pm
In my opinion, this the best episode of 24. The twist at the end blew me away. Nina...Yelena?! ARRGH! Say it isn't so! I had a hard time believing this revelation. As the episode ended, I just shook my head in disbelief. And couldn't wait for the season finale. A very long week it was. Simply the most amazing episode and twist that 24 pulled off. Even more than the faux Allan York twist. 10/10

09:00am-10:00am
Written by: Larry Hertzog
Directed by: David Guggenheim
Description: When a new boss, Alberta Green, takes over CTU, Nina secretly continues to help Jack locate Teri and Kim while Jack tracks down investment banker Ted Cofell, a man who is mentioned on the decrypted key card. A shocked Senator Palmer learns that one of his associates may be willing to commit murder in order to protect his campaign.

05:00pm-06:00pm
Written by: Maurice Hurley
Directed by: Frederick K. Keller
Description: Against his family's wishes, Senator Palmer decides to go public about the secret scandal surrounding his family. Even as Alexis's brother, Andrew, sends another assassin to the Bauer residence in hopes of finding Teri and Kim, a confused and scared Teri meets Dr. Parslow, a man who says they are good friends. Unaware of the danger Teri is in, he offers to give her a ride home.
I'm not going to write too much about the eps this time either, but for me, 9:00am - 10:00am was a lot superior to 5:00pm - 6:00pm. The main reason? The amnesia thing was one of the most unbelievable and bad aspects of the 24 storylines. 9:00am-10:00am they were still pretty fresh with ideas, but the amnesia thing was a bit much.
5:00pm-6:00pm for me
Oh, and every one who has voted in the past has been sent a pm informing them of this tournament starting again, just so hopefully we'll get more regular votes. But it won't be updated too often, because i'll let a little more time so that more people can vote.

9:00am - 10:00am by far!
Teri's amnesia was indeed the weakest aspect of season 1. And don't get me started on the doctor/Teri's near-paramour. Pfffft, what a dork, and a waste of screentime! Also, the actor who played Jack's backup couldn't act for toffee. Thank Gawd they got rid of him after only one episode!

LOL, k i'll elaborate a bit on what i meant. in 9:00am-10:00am, i felt they had some very interesting ideas, while basically in 5:00pm-6:00pm it seemed like they were running out, and decided to use the amnesia and doctor thing as a filler sort of.
As for what i actually liked in 9:00am -10:00am, my favorite parts of the episode were mainly the parts where Teri and Kim try to interact with Jack via the cellphone which they kept having to hide...(that part when it started beeping from low battery...intense :p). The storyline is moving along as well, with the Drazens entering the picture. Alberta Green was a pain in the ass of course, but it helped build the tension more in the CTU building.
hope that helped? :p

Both are pretty good episodes, but 6:00-7:00am is better. It's cool to see Teri kicking the shit out of "York", and the "final" moments between Nina and Jack are shocking. Unfortunately, the plot doesn't make much sense when you watch it a second time and already know that Nina is the mole. One of the many plot holes of season 1, I guess ;)

Apparently, we're suppose to believe that Gaines is unaware of the fact that Nina is the mole. Two separate operations being run by the Drazens, one unaware of the other? I'm still not sure if I can believe that. :D
