Okay, chat about tunes that blatantly plagiarise...

Girls aloud have raped a few chords and ripped one of the most rollicking riff's from "My Sharona" (The Knack). Sadly, the shiny poptarts can't quite follow through, and their second (hit) single winds up being little more than radio-friendly punk pap with bags 'o' style and very little substance!!!

Craig David...One...U2...I'm Walking Away...:o.

Bo Selecta!!!

Pain Killer by Turin Breaks...I swear to JC, I jumped out of me armchair and nearly fell arse-over-tit...showering my better half with mouthfuls of dandelion & Burdock and quavers..."It'shhh Puuuuuuulp, a pissshhh-poor Minnie Timperleeeeey in cardiganssssshhhh...BASSSHTARDS!!!".

Naughty devils...the lot of them.

Can you think of any good examples folks...???

I dunno about lyrics.. I'll post some examples of music that is lifted off from another song.

(1) Oasis' Some Might Say always reminds me of New York Dolls' Personality Crisis.. anyone agree? It's eeriely similar.

(2) The riff of Papa Roach's Last Resort is a blatant rip-off from the middle segment of Iron Maiden's Genghis Khan.

(3) The riff from Papa Roach's Between Angels and Insects is EXACTLY the same as Iron Maiden's The Prowler... the two songs are almost interchangeable.

.. oh and (4) the Texas song In Our Lifetime clearly plagiarises TLC's Creep..

We all remeber Soho?!?!? Well their hit song "Hippychick" the begining sounds like The Smiths "How Soon Is Now"....

Or a lesser known song "Break Out" by BWitched has the riffs of Venus by Shocking Blue..

  I don't think sampling Rock The Casbah counts as plagiarism. A lot of artists sample other songs, especially dance and rap acts.. did he take credit for it or something? Because that would be pretty stupid. Otherwise, I think it's acceptable.

The biggest rip off in my memory is that one song "Butteryfly" (I think that's the title.. You know the one that goes... Your my butterfly sugar... baby..... All the music to that one every single note was a red hot chili peppers song.

oasis-probably all in the mind, completly rips off the guitar loop from waterfall by the stone roses, download listen and compare its identical.

status quo-ripped off the opening riffs in roadhouse blues by the doors and used it in every song they made.

Has anybody ever noticed that The Pretenders tune Middle of the Road sounds an awful lot like The Romantics' What I lLike About You? Jimmy Marinos (the drummer for The Romantics), mentioned that once, about the time Middle was a big pop hit, and it caused me to seek out that first Romantic record and to discover that they were much more than Talkin' In Your Sleep would indicate that they were.

BTW, I love all the songs mentioned above and (as I value my life), wouldn't accuse Chrissie Hynde of copying anyone, even if I thought she did.

I should also point out that Nick Lowe practically brags about how much he rips off from other people.
