Here's an interesting bit of information

IMDB News (http://www.imdb.com)
Star Wars star Ewan McGregor finds filming the sc-fi trilogy "tedious." Despite the films propelling him to Hollywood A-list status, the Scottish actor admits he's dreading reprising his role as Obi Wan Kenobi when shooting for the third movie begins in Sydney, Australia, in four weeks time. McGregor explains, "They're hard films to make - as an actor you're called upon to act without another character there in a blue space, it's difficult. I find them very tedious to make, there's no two ways about that, they're not good fun to make." But the 32-year-old concedes there are some benefits to appearing in the hit movies. He adds, "They're good fun to be in, I like that! I like that kids come up and ask you questions about them."

What do you think? Worth it to make the movies and be bored by them? Does this type of news really ruin watching a movie, because you think the actor had a miserable time making it?

I think McGregor should've stayed away from the new Star Wars movies in the first place. With that kind of script, McGregor deserves better. I'm not a bit surprised he's getting bored by it, I would be too.

While they're not very good movies, one positive thing that has come from them is making McGregor a household name. These movies have made him A-list.

Agreed. It's good to see him making choices that open up his options (Moulin Rouge, Down with Love), but of course, he also sticks with the darker movies that made him (Young Adam, Big Fish).

He, if anyone, deserves to be on the A-list.

McGregor bored w/ Star Wars?!?! Well lets see who should we point the finger at? Well after Return of The Jedi, the magic of Star Wars is a gradually losing its spark per movie release, Episode 1, Episode 2 and so forth.

So I'm not the only one. :D

I'm surprised McGregor can actually make these statements. When Neeson started to bitch about working in Episode 1 a few months later he totally recanted his criticisms. The rumor is he got strong-armed by Lucas. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a little about-face from Ewan in the coming weeks.

Hell, I'd be bored too if I was being directed by someone who kept pushing me to hurry acting through my scenes so said director could then spend his real time & money with post production whatchamacalits!

I agree with everyone. Maybe the writing should improve and then the actors wouldn't be so bored. Special effects without a good story is a huge bore, IMO. The first movies were great cause of the chemistry of the stars and the plot tension. The first Star Trek was great for the same reason.

yeah, the two prequels have been a little poor, so i guess i dont blame him for being bored by the whole thing. it must be a pain in the ass talking to something thats not actually there.

although, i take the same stance as electriclite....i wouldnt be overly shocked if these comments get taken back rather quickly.

Even if he is getting bored, I think he should keep it to himself. Okay, he's a great actor and everything (in fact, I'm a fan), but one has to be grateful as well.

I'm sure people who have to shovel shit for a living wouldn't mind fighting stromtroopers against a blue-screen and getting paid millions to do it.

I understand that it can get tedious, but just appreciate it, is all I'm saying. Being bored is a very small price to pay for the fame and fortune it's brought him.

Some things are better left unsaid...

Just my opinion.

Ewan already said something along those lines while shooting EPISODE ONE, if I remember. And read him well: he's not complaining about the material, he's complaining about the way it's shot. And I can only agree with him there. I mean, I saw many pictures and videos of the shooting of the STAR WARS prequels, and most of the time NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, not one square meter of the sets is real -- except the floor and eventual chairs and stuff. The rest, all the rest, is CGI-implimented -- including most of the characters (Yoda, etc.). So imagine Ewan's job: he spends three months working on a stage, in front of a blue screen, talking to a tennis ball that's supposed to represent a human being, with nothing around him to make him believe in what he's doing. Add to that the not-so-great actor directing skills George Lucas has (great visual director...just can't give actors instructions), and it's gotta be a pretty pissy way to work.

**Warning. I am now turning off my partiality to Mr. McGregor, so you may not blame the following post on protecting my husband-to-be** ;)

Though I don't know if it really served him to say it, I don't think he meant it in a bad way towards the films or the scripts or Lucas, but probably said it in response to the question if he liked shooting the movies.

I suppose it's better than lying.

Rats, you stole my line :D

At any rate, Ewan Mcgregor might be bored with Star Wars, but as mentioned earlier, it has put him on the A-List. No need to criticize the one thing that skyrocketed your career.

Ya, i would start to get migranes doing all that, i don't blame him really.

Though doing the original would have been a blast.

I remember him voicing his displeasure with acting in them since episode 1. For good reason they are mearly mediocre. The man has done better and will probably do better again.

Ewan has said all along that the PROCESS of making SW is tedious. He said in the paper yesterday that he was off to Australia in three weeks to begin Episode III and couldn't wait. He has a point - who wants to stand ina big room with a big blue screen all day? There is not much he can visually react to, and that's bread and butter to an actor/ess. I'm only surprised that Lucas hasn't spanked his bottom for the comments...

I'm sure Annie will on his behalf.:p

You'd be bored too if all you had to do is stand in front of a blue screen and pretend to talk to some stupid alien!
