Soderbergh Wild On Asner
by Lia Haberman
Jules Asner and longtime fiancé Steven Soderbergh starred in their very own production this past weekend as the pair swapped vows in New York.
The Hollywood heavyweights were hitched by a justice of the peace in a small ceremony at Soderbergh's Manhattan apartment before family members and friends (including fellow media couple Diane Sawyer and Mike Nichols).
Reps for the pair had no comment.
While details of their nuptials and honeymoon aren't being released, it's a pretty sure bet the newly minted marrieds will be spending at least some of their time in the south of France, where Soderbergh has been pressed into service as a judge at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
It's a second marriage for both the former E! pinup babe and the director, who've been dating since at least 2001. Asner, née Jules White, was formerly wed to Ed Asner's son Matthew. She was also engaged to TV director Greg Yaitanes (CSI: Miami). Soderbergh was previously married to actress Betsy Brantley, with whom he has a 13-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Asner, 35, began her career as an Elite model before studying politics and journalism at UCLA. She joined E! in 1997 as a correspondent for E! News Daily (now called E! News Live) before embarking on her globetrotting stint for Wild On. Asner was then promoted to coanchor of E! News. After moving to New York last November, she cut back on her broadcast schedule, hosting Revealed and a handful of red-carpet specials. (E! Online is a division of E! Networks.)
Just this week, Asner parted ways with E! A statement from the network says the amicable split will "enable her to pursue other opportunities," which reportedly includes developing a syndicated talk show for Sony. In the meantime, though, Asner's new Revealed sit-down with Jim Carrey will premiere on E! May 21 at 10:30 p.m.
Soderbergh, 40, first made his mark with 1989's sex, lies and videotape, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Since then, the director has won praise for a string of grand slams including Out of Sight (his first project with future producing partner George Clooney), Erin Brokovich, Traffic (for which he won a Best Director Oscar) and Ocean's Eleven, among others.
Up next, he'll pair up with Clooney early next year for Ocean's Twelve, a follow-up to their 2001 Vegas-heist hit slated for a holiday 2004 release. Soderbergh has a habit of teaming up with the same talent. He's reportedly considering a politically charged look at Latin American revolutionary Ché Guevara with Traffic alum Benicio Del Toro and will reunite with Ocean's star Matt Damon for a feature film adaptation of New York Times investigative reporter Kurt Eichenwald's real-life thriller about a corporate exec who's pressed into service by the FBI.
