DEMONS....IMHO the best argento film out there...
i love this movie........i saw it for the first (several) times when i was yooounnnnggg and i've loved it ever since...
for any of you that haven't seen it....it takes place in a (cursed?) theatre. the basic premise is....this hooker puts on this mask and it scratches her (the pimp is the man..and he was also back as a diff. character in DEMONS2 go figure...) and they all watch this movie that pertains to the mask and they find out that anyone who wears it becomes a demon....guess what happens next???
keep guessin...
c'mon...
you can do it....
you can do it all night long....
that's right...the hooker becomes a demon....and since contagion is spread through their fingernails....everyone she kills turns to a demon and this vicious cycle of demon spawning carnage ensues...
god i love this movie
i think i'm gonna watch it

A favorite of mine too. Demons 2 I liked also but not to the same degree. Since you like the movie Demons so much you should watch the movie Demon Wind (if you haven't already). The movie is very similar with the exception of it being US made.

Well since you've never seen it I won't ruin it for you. Its a great movie with effects to make any horror fan proud. The director is Charles Philip Moore and it was made in 1990 in case you have trouble finding it.

It just doesn't get any better than these two horror films , two of the best ever , the sense of frenetic energy and pure cinematic energy seperate these two films from other similar films in the genre . It never gets old , i can watch these influential italian zombie / demon / horror / action films over and over , they get better with each viewing . I hope they make an actaul sequel , the third in the series .

Plot holes aplenty, but Demons rocks regardless. Impressive gore, luminous lighting, and an addictive b-movie atmosphere. I'll be catching the sequel eventually. My expectations are low, but I'm positive that it will deliver more cheese than I know how to handle.

Definitely cheese on steroids , but oh so amazing .
Spoilers
Demons - Rochefort cheese ( the apocalyptic ending is unreal , especially the sequence in the jeep , then the excellent end theme music )
Demons 2 - Blue Cheese ( eclipses number one in certain respects , they really exploit that trapped in the building premise to perfection )

The lighting was so bad in some scenes, that it was nearly unwatchable...
that is, I think, the only bad thing I can say about this movie.. the MAJOR plot holes, terrible acting, BS story and cheeeesy soundtrack..? I can EASILY live with that stuff.. :) Its what makes Demons so darn special..!
Took me a zillion years to track down the VHS(I NEEEDED that freaking cover!).. Can you believe that its sequals aren't available for rent in this entire city..?

I really liked the original Demons, I laughed my ass off though when the helicopter came at the end. The sequel was decent, I saw it before the original.

RJ , are you sure you watched the Anchor Bay DVD version of the film ? Because those transfers are immaculate , and the lighting is terrific , Argento's influence is obvious with regards to the set design , lighting , and effective use of colors .
I always felt the helicopter scene was ludicrous , until you think about it and suspend some disbelief ( it's a film about Demons , obviously you can ) , the virus had already spread throughout the city at this point , and maybe the helicopter was looking for survivors . They were probably tipped off that something was amiss when the two police officers who chased the thugs went missing , so they sent a dispatch to locate them . They spotted their abandoned vehicle , tried to enter the theater , realized it was sealed shut and shouldn't have been , so they called for air support in the form of a helicopter . When they landed on the roof of the theater , the pilots were attacked by the mysterious man in the iron mask ( played by the legendary director of Dellamorte Dellamore , among others , Michele Soavi ) . The weight of the Heli could not be supported by the theater roof , so , well everyone knows what happens next .
See , some aspects of Italian horror that seem to be ludicrous , actually make some weird kind of sense if you watch a particular film enough times . What a sequence it was too , classic .
Now i'm going to have to watch these films again , they have been collecting dust for a bit , i've been watching Asian horror / action films almost exclusively lately .

If Demons is has good as Demons 2 I would be it without hesitating that's for sure.
Demons 2 kicks major ass !!! it is never boring, it is atmospheric, very good music ( Boswell, Cure, Art Of Noise, ... ) it is energic, good characters ( especially the black - guy I mean the gym trainer )
I own it of course !! Well done mister Lamberto Bava and Argento ( production )

demons 1 & 2 are sometimes good but most often bad becsause of the acting and direction. Lamberto bava didn' heritate the talent of his father mario. The SFX are impressive but that's all.

Demons1 kicked serious ass! I haven't seen Demons2. I've heard negative reviews but I wanna check it out anyway. You can never really tell untill you see it yourself.

LOL, I was SUCH a sucker for the VHS cover that I didn't even consider checking out the reissue... I think I may buy the double Bill, though.. That's the only way I'll EVER get to see the sequal..!

<whispers so as not to embarrass anyone>
"Demons" was directed by Lamberto Bava, not Dario Argento.

I know , but he was one of the producers , and he was heavily involved in the production , that's why it looks so much like Argento directed it .
Trust me , if you are at all interested in Demons 1/2 , you have to watch the DVD version , it makes such a huge difference . Great sound ( just wish they would have added more surround effects ) , and video ( the best transfer i have seen of these films ). You will hear sounds that weren't on the VHS version , some subtle , some very obvious , it's probably the best this film will ever look and sound , and there are some excellent bass effects too , very cool .
The only hole i can see with these two films is the demon baby thingy in the second one . It looked ridiculous then , and it looks even worse now , i wish they would have left that scene on the cutting room floor .
And , i have to say , that black guy is a legend . He made other films , and his role was so small in both films , but this is what he will always be remembered for . The pimp, and the the personal trainer ( he's even better in the sequel , he even gets to pump a couple of slugs in some the crazed demons , very cool surround sound effect in that scene ) who kicked some serious Demon ass and took control of the situation when everyone else was too scared to think straight .
Tony the pimp for President , yeah , i like the sound of that .
