'Untouchables' Actor Robert Stack Dies in L.A.
Thu May 15, 2003 11:25 AM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Robert Stack, the actor famed for playing crime fighter Eliot Ness in the TV series "The Untouchables," has died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 84, the show business newspaper Daily Variety reported on Thursday.
Stack earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for Douglas Serk's "Written on the Wind" in 1956, and he won renewed popularity with his comic role in the 1980 movie satire "Airplane!"
Stack also served as the narrator for the syndicated series "Unsolved Mysteries." He played crime fighter Ness in "The Untouchables" from 1959 to 1963, winning an Emmy for the role in 1963. He also appeared on other TV series, including "Most Wanted" and "Strike Force."
Stack was born on Jan. 13, 1919, in Los Angeles.

NOOOOO...that is some sad news. My mom and I had a silly bet going on that he and Keith Richards would never die. Sucks. Good actor too. Who could forget Airplane and of course the T.V. show Unsolved Mysteries "Only YOU can help solve this mystery" :(

NOOOO!!!! I loved this guy (not in a gay way) in Airplane as Kramer and the host of Unsolved Mysteries. I watched UM all my childhood and I loved his way of narrating the stuff. R.I.P Robert Stack.

Fuck!
Robert Stack is practically a god to me. He was a (and a great one at that) narrator to the only watchable piece of Lifetime programming.
Unsolved Mysteries will never be the same again. Hopefully it will end now.

(from Airplane)
Rex Kramer: [talking to Steve McKrosky] The plan is to build him up. Give him all the confidence we can.
[To Stryker]
Rex Kramer: Stryker, have you ever flown a multi-engine plane before?
Ted Striker: No, never.
Rex Kramer: Shit! It's a God damn waste of time! There's no way he can this plane!

of all his movie & TV work well alongside w/ Untouchables, and host of Unsolved Mysteries I will always remember him in the 1980 movie Airplane. God bless Robert Stack, you will be missed by everyone..........
