Please tell me I'm not the only one who has become obsessed with this guy. An un-freakin-believable talent. I can only wonder what kind of msuic he'd be putting out today if he didn't die at such a young age. His awesome vocals, songwriting abiltiy, and guitar playing rock my world completely. He's definitely become on of my favorite artists...

What does everyone else think of lost talent?

Well, first off, I think it's a bloody shame he died so young, as he had a lot of talent. Second off...(ever hear that? I don't...you hear first off, but rarely second off. Hmm. Anyway...) I love what I have heard of him. Dream Brother, in particular, absolutely blows my mind. There is a very slight (no pun intended) grace to his music, no matter what the style or tone of it is. He had quite a lot of balance in his work, and it almost makes one thing of a delicately balanced weight, teetering back and forth on the point between two huge canyons.
Enough of the similes and metaphors, though, he's definitely a great artist that I want to hear more of. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not that big on Grace, but he's got a GREAT back catalogue, session work and some ORGASMIC live stuff released..
The guy was SO dammned talented. A few more tours and he could've changed the universe..
Annie.. Check out his concert recordings of "The Way Young Lovers Do" a twelve minute jazz improv piece with some of the most heartbreaking vocals you'll ever hear.. when he starts scatting, I melt into a tiny little puddle..

Grace is a fucking amazing album!
9.999/10
Jeff Buckley even excelled his Dad (Tim) he was that good. I love his voice and the way he rock like a true rocker and sing the most beautiful and depressing slow songs at a flick of a track.
He would have been one of the true greats if he had lived. Shame.
How did he die?

GREAT singer.
Check out some of the work he did with guitarist Gary Lucas in the late 80's/ 90's.

I've been meaning to check that stuff out..
My friend bought the Mystery White Boy DVD today and we watched it.. before that I had only seen boots of his performances.. this is IT! Teh bassist pulled a few bad notes, but everything else was fucking immaculate...!!! At one point, the guitar tech for Soul Coughing comes out onstage and they break into kick out the jams.. Hilarious!!!
Buckley makes reference to Morrissey THREE times in the concert.. :)

Yeah...it seems he went for a midnight swim and some strong currents pulled him under. I remember being a little dumbstruck as i'd been playing his Grace album almost constantly since release and honestly thought he was a major talent whose career was gonna go through the roof with his second album. Everyone who like Grace should check out the Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk. It's a two cd set the first of which is a pretty damn polished set of songs and the second is a slightly more ragged affair. Although not as consistantly brilliant as Grace, both CDs are worth any Buckley fans attention.

Agree with all the great things said about him. Seems like he was pretty damn depressed sometimes, though...

Considering his story and the mystery surrounding his death, the music will inevitably get looked at under a a different light..
I have no doubt that in twenty years Grace will seem even more spooky than it already is..

O.K. I am now officially obsessed with Buckley. It all began when I downloaded his version of hallelujah in the music tag game. I liked it alot and it wet my appetite but then I sort of put my interest on the back burner. Then Romero suggested the song Your flesh is so nice in the music tag game as well. That was it. I was signed and sold on Jeffs music. Well Right now I'm listening to Sketched for my sweetheart the drunk over and over again. I can't stop. This guy is fucking brilliant.

Bowieee, you have NO idea how incredible that makes me feel..
His untimely death made it possible to drum up every freaking recording that the man has ever done... He's IMMACULATE on stage, plus he had a huge back catalogue.. There's gonna be post mortem recordings being released for the next twenty years.
he did some session stuff, too... prick your ears when you listen to Patti Smiths' "beneath The Southern Cross" .... you'll be pleasantly suprised...

Jeff Buckley's untimely death had more of an impact on me than the death of Kurt Cobain. Don't get me wrong...I was pretty fucking upset when Cobain shuffled off this mortal coil but he chose his path whereas Buckley was just the victim of tragic circumstances beyond his control. It's impossible to predict exactly what trajectory his music "career" would have taken but in my heart of hearts I believe that he would have gone from strength to strength. Considering the brilliance of his debut album 'Grace' and the demos that make up 'Songs For My Sweetheart The Drunk' I honestly can't even begin to imagine how he could have bettered them. I remember trying at the time of Grace's release...trying my fucking damndest to throw a musical lifeline to my friends whose taste in music at the time mainly embarassing to say the least. I played them the 'Grace' album and they just didn't fucking get it. Not at all. I never understood how they could fail to recognise it's genius. Still don't. It's a fucking crazy world full of crazy people.

Oh, its fantastic.. What really got me was that it was taken from the Whiteboy tour, but it sounded COMPLETELY different from the CD, which was really drum heavy and a little.. ermm.. well, the sound was bad.
This comes from one full show at Chicago's METRO theatre and its totally cutless. You hear every guitar tuning, every spit. You can actually keep track of each cigarette that they smoke..
I'm not into the concert DVD thing, but that kind of continuity REALLLLLLLY gets you into the whole concert... Honestly, there were times when I felt like standing up and clapping...

I'm becoming a fan of Jeff Buckley.
It's often difficult for me to get into an artist I haven't heard before, because there's too much of their work to catch up on. (I hope this doesn't sound cruel, but..) when I read he had only a few albums out before he died, I decided to check out a few of his songs.
So far, I have:
Eternal Life
Grace
Dream Brother
Everybody Here Wants You
Lover, You Should Have Come Over
Those songs, especially 'Everybody Here Wants You' which may be one of the most exquisite songs I've ever heard, are enough to convince me to buy his albums. What a beautiful voice; I've never heard anything like it.

Everybody Here Wants You is just... heartbreaking. Damn, the man sends chills down my spine. His voice was not from this world. Gotta love his cover of Cohen's Hallelujah. Brillant stuff.

I've downloaded a few tracks...The Last Goodbye, Hallelujah and Lover, You Should Have Come Over being my notable favourites.
Grace is now on my 'to buy' list, and my Christmas list.
Is Tim Buckley worth checking out people?

Bowieee, you've got sketches, right? What do you think of Satified mind?! Aint it WICKED?!
BCV - I'm not into it at ALLL, but a fan of the baroque-y 60's pop stuff (nick drake, Lee hazlewood, frank Mills) should enjoy it.

I was thinking about that song yesterday as I was driving home late at night listening to it. What a great way to end that compilation...... It's fantastic.
