View Full Version : New trend of sequels?

For the longest time, sequels - to me - just seemed like basic remakes of their predecessor(s). From movies like Rocky, Rambo, Rush Hour, and even going way back to The Magnificent Seven, they're just the exact duplicates of the plots, stories, villains, and so on. Now I realize that since they are sequels, there does have to be some similarities, but for the most part - remakes!

There were exceptions of course: the Godfather trilogy & the first Star Wars movies were individually all part of a larger story or saga. There now seems to be more of these types of movies, where the sequels don't copy its predecessor but continues the same story. Sequels like X2, Matrix Reloaded (and eventually Revolutions, I'm sure), and The Lord of the Rings are box office smashes and have a huge ass following. Will more movies in the future follow suit? I mean, will more movies have endings where there needs to be a sequel to answer questions? I think Back to the Future started the whole let's make two sequels at the same time to save money and make more money at the same time.

I think there will always be sequels that basically remake the first movie. I believe Charlie's Angels II: Full Throttle will be like the original, but of course, it will try to be "bigger & better," but so did Rush Hour II, and the Austin Powers sequels.
