View Full Version : People who will only judge an actor based on his looks!

First of all, I'm not shallow. I may come off as a 'fool in love' sometimes when it comes to beautiful actors/actresses but that does NOT means I don't care about his (or her) acting abilities and personality.
For example, not too many people find Kathy Bates and Emily Watson attractive. There were plenty of times in my life where I have encountered a person who looks at Kathy Bates or Emily Watson and say "Eww. I hate her! She's ugly!" Ok, what's the point? So what if she isn't so physical attractive? Maybe she's a talented actress and that's what matters the most when you have a profession to ACT, to PERFORM. I think Shannon Elizabeth is very pretty, but I loathe the bitch because she can't act worth shit. I just think it's really shallow to hate an actor just because you don't like his looks. At least when I hate a celebrity, I either hate their acting or their personality, but I never say I hate a celebrity because of their looks, that's just ridiculous.
Not a very original rant I know, but I just wanted to get that off my chest.
Also applies to the "Halle Berry" syndrome, where people think she's a good actress just because she's hot (in fact, she's neither a good actress nor hot).

Hannibal: So you loathe/hate people because they can't act? How shallow is that?
And what's this shit about hating celebs of any kind. I mean just because someone in you opinion can't act is no reason to go around hating them! I don't think you know what the word hate really means...

Excuse me?!!!!!!!!!!!! "Hate" is a strong word, but I see plenty of people on this board use it, maybe they're just kidding or maybe they're serious. When I "hate" a celebrity I either hate their personality or their acting, now I'm trying not to use the word "hate" anymore because it's such a strong word, but I will NOT say that I "hate" an actor because he/she is ugly, I say I can't stand an actor's acting or their personality, that's that. Ugh!

Oh, and just for the record, people say they "love" an actor/actress because they can act very well when they haven't met them, so is there something wrong with that? That's the same thing with disliking an actor/actress PROFESSIONALLY I may add because they can't act. So you can't "love" or "hate" any actor you haven't met?

It's funny you should bring up Kathy Bates. I was talking to an acquaintance the other day about "Misery," and he said he hated the movie. When I asked why, he said, "I hate the woman in the movie." I told him I thought she did a great job, to which he replied something like, "Yeah, she did a good job, I just think she's ugly." Stunned, I said, "So, you hate "Misery" for no other reason than because you think Kathy Bates is ugly." He shrugged his shoulders and said yeah.
And then he went off and watched a Steven Segal movie. I guess that explains everything.

I don't judge an actor just by their looks! To me, it doesn't matter if theor attractive, I like them for who they are and for their personality.
For example:
Steve Buscemi
Kathy Bates
Ethen Suplee
Edward Furlong
John Malkovich
William Dafoe
Some people might think their unattractive, but they are some of my favorite actors who in my opinion are great!

I loathe when a physically attractive younger actor gets cast for a film and the next thing you see is 5,000 super-critics saying "BAHHH THIS IS JUST ANOTHER FUCKING TEENY-BOPPER FLICK! BAHHHH!"

Are you really that angry that he 'hates' an actor? I don't see the problem with him 'hating' an actor since he has his reasons.

Many actor/actresses that I respect and love may not be the most attractive in Hollywood but once you fall in love with their acting, they become attractive in their own way.

I think we are all guilty of this in one way or another. Some people I just can not stand to look at. I had to tear off the cover of my latest EW because of that Hugh Jackman ick I just think he is ugly. But I can still watch any movie he is in but I could not just stare at his picture. I am just picky like say a chick in a movie shows her boobs, I am all for it unless they are small, I mean why even show them then? I will catch T3 even though I do not agree with the enemy being a woman and I am a woman by the way. I will not watch the Hulk because I think it looks stupid and I hate how he flys in the air did you notice while he does this he is wiggling his feet back and forth he looks kinda sissy when he does that.:p

Aww Harlowe's cloth monkeys. Possibly the cutest psych experiment ever! :)
Anyway; back on topic: I do think dissing talent based on looks is out of line. Saying that I've probably done it myself in rare instances where I was too lazy to explain why I dislike an actor. I'll be more careful in future ;)

I'am not sure I totally understand what you just said.....Can I love a actor/actress's preformance without ever really meeting that actor
I mean I loved Tom Hanks preformance in Cast Away but I have never met Tom Hanks in person so should I just say I liked his preformance...
Also I hate what you just said in this post but since I have never met you I should say "I disagree with what you wrote"
Or are you just saying that we can not love the actor as a person considering we never have met them and that since we only see them in movies and their promotional things....we can not say we really love them as a individual but we could love their acting right
I actually can agree with that
But I don't care what anybody says I love Ariel from The Little Mermaid and not just her acting her mind, body, and soul too.

Jeeeesus that's harsh. The only time I remember tearing off the cover of EW was when the Dixie Chicks decided it was okay to drop their pants and humiliate themselves.
