Colin Farrell was flawless in Daredevil too...
I know this isn't for every ROMCOM out there, but this is the majority of them.
Boy meets girl.
Boy likes girl.
Boy does dumb thing.
Girl doesn't like boy anymore.
Girl realizes she does like boy.
Boy apologizes.
Girl say it's ok.
A big flashing "CRY" sign lowers from theater roof.
Girl talks about what a great movie it was.
Boy dreams about Terminator 3, and mumbles "Yeah, it was good."

Hey, what's wrong with fanboys? What did we ever do to you?
Having said that, I can see why some people may not like comic movies. I'd imagine that if you actually had read one of the comics the movies were based on, you might feel differently. You see, making a good comic movie, to a certain extent, is like making a good movie based on a regular novel. Like with a novel, with a comic movie, you have to keep enough the same to keep readers of it happy, but change enough to satisfy people who haven't. And don't give me that comics are just for kids shit.
That's just disrespectful.
As far as action movies go, some are really bad. But there are also some very good ones (Die Hard, Speed, Lethal Weapon movies). The acting isn't always great, but it's not the main focus of the movie. I think you would feel a lot better about these types of movies if you thought of them for what they are, mindless fun. Any action movie will pale in comparison to Godfather, Rain Man, or Cuckoo's Nest. But so will most comedies.

This stuff is what makes the comic book movies so great. Look at the Crow (The best comic book movie ever IMO) It had GREAT character development and acting. Daredevil had a lot of the same stuff. Although they both had outlandish violence, but still had great story, acting and character development to balance it out. Shit even Batman Forever had some great moments of development in it. By the way are there any specific movie you are talking about?

I agree. When Daredevil came out, many critics made the point that one thing was different: when the woman asks him to stay instead of going to fight crime, he stays. In most movies, it would be the opposite.

ya know, if you dont like them, you dont have to watch them. afterall ,by seeing them, you are in fact funding other comic books movies, that you wont like...and so the cycle continues....

I will agree that this should happen more often, and I will agree that comic book movies and action movies are predictible, at least the conclusion is. But the joy I find in watching them is how they reach that inevitable conclusion. We've been set up lately for a surprising twist at the end of a movie, if it doesn't happen we feel somewhat disappointed...why? We didn't feel that way when we first saw Goodfellas(ok, self indulgent example, but I digress). I knew Spider-Man would come out on top, so why would I watch a movie if I know the ending? For the story telling and performances.
And personally, the acting in these movies has been hit or miss, but Willem Dafoe was spot on as Norman Osborn, and Tobey Maguire was an excellent Peter Parker. Hugh Jackman is perfect for Wolverine and Alan Cumming phenomenal as Nightcrawler.
But then Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell blow in Daredevil(but I don't think it was entirely their faults, that was a bad script and had no development.) Also James Marsden is lame as Cyclops.
Okay, I lost sight of my original point. Opinions, that's all they are, and as it was said in another thread about ROM COMMS, I don't think anything I will say will change your mind and I know nothing you will say will change mine.(Thanks again choco). Anywho, I am off to save the world in a pair of purple tights and a hat made of cheese.

As a fanboy (man do I love that word!) I take great offense to this. I reserve my jerking off for animated flicks like Shrek and Monster's Inc. Man, nothing makes me want to blow my load like seeing a big furry monster running around with a little green one eyed monster that's only tall enough to look directly into his crotch! That's the stuff that wet dreams are made of!!!!
(it's cool you don't like comic book movies, but let's be slightly respectful to the fans please... rant about the movies all you want, but the fans don't do anything except enjoy the movies, something that hurts you in no way shape or form!)

You have to realize that action movies are made to entertain audiences. They may be stupid, yes, but other audiences may not think so. People want to have a fun time at the movies, so that's why these movies are made (even though some of them are bad).

I'm not a fan of comics per se, nor am I a big fan of Fantasy novels.
But I will say that Fantasy and comics are the best basis for some of the most kickass kinds of action movies.
What pisses me off is when a really shitty movie based off of a comic is made. I'm sorry for those who like Daredevil - no offense, but I'll use that one as an example. I hated this movie with all my heart. Hell, even 6/8 comic fanboy friends of mine hated this movie just as much as me. Of the other two, on thought it was OK, and the other loved it.
What pisses me off is when a movie like THAT is made and becomes even remotely successful. When that happens, it gives the movie stuidios the idea that they're doing good and will decide to make MORE shitty movies based off of good comics, and people will keep seeing it because of the hope that it will be another Spiderman, Batman, X-Men or The Crow and become thouroghly disgusted when another POS comic book movie is made. There's such a strong fanbase with comics that the fans will see every movie, whether it's good or not, which will give even bad movies good box office records.
Same with Fantasy. Fantasy is very high on the imagination factor, giving plenty of room for involving storylines based off of myth and magic; but usually you end up watching Dungeons & Dragons instead. They had a good foundation, how the hell can Hollywood fuck up such a hard-to-miss opportunity?! Thank God they did well with LOTR.
Well, that's basically my rant.

I think they are exciting... I don't see anything wrong with comic book movies. The whole point is to go beyond human understanding and border fantasy. I love X Men. I thought out of all the comic movies that was the best adapted. I never seen I problem with it unless the adaption sucks.

I think Comic book movies suck for the most part too
There's no script or story what so ever and the acting is bad (except bullseye in daredevil he fuckin rocked)
They put all there time into special effects (which are very good a la X-men 2) other then the special efects though most comic book movies suck ass

No script? Where do you think the characters' lines come from?
No story? What do you call the sequence of events that happen to the characters?
Why don't you be more specific, instead of exaggerating about how they have "no script or story" and just saying they suck?
An 8-year old can say something sucks. Obviously, they do have scripts and stories, the actors aren't just making things up as they go along. So what about them sucks?
As for sci-fi, what about Jurassic Park? That movie mostly concentrated on special effects, and look how good it was.
And how would they be able to make a superhero movie without special effects? Have you seen those old Spider-man tv movies from the 70s? They suck, because there were no special effects, so they couldn't have any good villains.

So far the current trend of comic book movies, from Blade,Blade2,X-men,X2,DareDevil, and Spiderman have all been very well done. If u hate EVERYONE of these movies then why bother going to see any in the future?
Personally i think most of the movies on this list are 10 times better then most of the sappy oscar-bait bullshit we have seen lately.

Man if we didn't have brainless action movies the world of film would be made up of really bad emotional Meryl Streep flicks.... so you have cancer! Who cares? I don't. I have my own problems....
It's called escapism folks..... without it I probably would've killed Meryl Streep a long time ago.... though I did enjoy her in Adaptation..... oh well.
Yippi Kiyae Meryl Streep *Dignan shoots Meryl Streep in face, she plunges down skyscraper to her death*....
Happy trails Streep.:D

No. The Matrix never has been a comic. It was INFLUENCED and inspired by comics and manga but it was never a comic itself.

Thats what I meant, just like how Sam Raimi's opus Darkman is a very comic book movie, taking elements from comics like The Shadow and combining them with elements from Phantom of the Opera .
Same with RoboCop , it's just Frankenstein meets Iron Man with a lot of great satire on Reaganomics.
So yes, the Matrix, being comic book inspired, is just that -a comic book movie. Structured like a comic book, has action like- *gasp*- a comic book, and suprisingly have characters named Neo, Morpheus, and Carrie Anne Moss's character, who's name somehow escapes me at the moment. But why can't they have names like Jimmy or Steve or Amy, why do they have to have such... comic bookish(yeah, not a real word) names? Interesting....
Maybe your definition of comic book movie is different from mine, but movies likeSpiderman ,Batman ,etc. are comic book Adaptions . See the difference. And please don't try to turn the Matrix into something it is not- it IS a comic book movie.
But, I guess it is in the eye of the beholder, and I woudn't mind shooting Meryl Streep in bullet time while spout pseudo-phylisophical ideas and wearing cool leather pants and sunglasses, and blasting Rage Against the Machine's latest Marxist propaganda song of "revolution"at top volume for that bad ass "free your mind" kind of effect, so I think I will shut up now...;)
Damn I'm good. And smug....

Well, by the sound of it, you should be in for a big suprise with The Hulk.
I love comic book movies, taken some arent the greatest thing in the world but Superman, Superman II, Superman III, Batman, Batman Returns, X-Men, X-2, The Crow, Spider-Man and many more are amazing!
