My mother, my girlfriend, and I have been having a heated argument about the movie "The Good Girl" with Jenifer Aniston. My mother and my girlfriend are in agreement that it is a serious drama, while I keep trying to explain to them that it is, in fact, a comedy. Maybe not a laugh out loud Adam Sandler kind of thing, but still a comedy. We cant come to an agreement so I said Im going to the experts at Joblo-they'll set the record straight. So please respond. All your opinions are worthwhile(especially if you agree with me)

A quirky drama.
Both are right! It's a dramedy (comedy + drama = dramedy)... Although when I saw it in theaters, I laughed a lot and so did the whole audience. It has a lot of funny parts. However, it all depends on the viewer watching it. Most of the humor is more quirky than anything, and not everyone gets that kind of humor, which might cause them to miss it.

Yeah, I'd say it's an amusing, quirky drama myself.

I was willing to bend as far as the movie being a "dramedy". i even said the humor was quirky and not exactly laugh out loud funny. My mom though there were a few funny parts but it was definitly a drama. My girlfriend(who is actually a film major) agreed with my mother about it being a straight up drama, but she wouldnt even admit that it was funny at all.

Zooey Deschanel (weird name) who plays Cheryl was the highlight of the movie. Her character got away with whatever she said & she succeeded!!!
Anyway, Good Girl a "Dramedy" already mentioned had me yelling n screamin at the movie from begining to end....

Cheryl: Attention, shoppers. There's a Retail Rodeo special on aisle 3. Liquid Drain Cleaner, 2 12-ounce cans for $5.00. Liquid Drain Cleaner has churning power and it will churn right through your pipes. Ladies, you need female plumbing. Shove something clean and new up your filthy pipes. That's Liquid Drain Cleaner on aisle 3. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Retail Rodeo.

Well, I wouldn't call it a straight up drama at all. I think everyone I've watched this one with so far has laughed during quite a few scenes. When I saw it in the theater I laughed out loud quite a bit. Pretty much every single person in the theater was laughing. It's definitely a dramedy. Yes, it has its serious moments, but it's also really funny and the whole thing is quirky. Hmm, I bet if you look it up at movies.yahoo.com it will probably say it's a comedy, or comedy/drama, etc...

No doubt that the film touched on dramatic themes. I think the question is whether the film is actually funny. Well we definiately know that the characters are quirky. Some laugh at those quirks. Others don't.

I'd think of it as a comedy.....although it does deal with some dramatic issues.

It's a droll, dry, black as night comedy.

Most definately a black comedy. Black comedies incorporate drama, tragedy, irony, sarcasm, and cynisism. They are essentially comedies that deal with serious situations. It's harder to believe The Good Girl fits this genre, as it's comedy is so dry and droll.

The story is a drama but there are a lot of funny scenes. I agree that Cheryl is the highlight. She was hilarious.
It may be that different people view the level of drama in varying degrees in light of how much they can relate to the decision that Jennifer Anistion's character is trying to make. If you've been married for some time, you know that in any marriage, there are times when you wonder what it might be like to be single again, is there something/someone else more "in tune" with me.
I loved this movie. (4/5)

The movie grew on me. Gyllenhaal was better than I first thought, developing his character very well.
