I have had this idea for quite a long time, but I never knew if I should actually post it or not. But after debating forever, I decided I'm going to.

Do you ever want to recommend a movie to a schmoe? One that you think they'd really like, but they don't want to see or you don't know if they've seen or not? Well, that's what this thread is for. Voice your opinion... Recommend the movies to some of your fellow schmoes that you really think they would like. They don't have to rent them, but let them know anyway, get it out in the open.

I'll go first:

Idealdiscountdude:

Kissing Jessica Stein
The Curse
Panic
High Heels & Low Life's
Tadpole
The Mating Habits Of The Earthbound Human

Annie Hall:

Kissing Jessica Stein
Panic (I just decided to mention this one because you loved
American Beauty)
Lovely & Amazing
Tadpole
The Deep End
Beautiful Girls
Sliding Doors

Horror Whore:

I've given you quite a few recommendations before, but here's some off the top of my head that I think you'd like.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
Coyote Ugly
Heartbreakers
Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Better Off Dead
Teen Witch
Get Real
The Mating Habits Of The Earthbound Human
High Heels & Low Life's

BadCoverVersion:

High Heels & Low Life's (The main reason I'm recommending you this is because I always picture you looking/acting like Mary McCormack's character in this movie. Plus, I actually think you'd enjoy it. It's entertaining.)

Movies35:

I don't know if you've seen this yet, but if you haven't ---
Threesome!

PorcheRacer:

Wild Things
Crazy/Beautiful
Boys Don't Cry

Flowrchild:

The Curse

Now remember everyone, try to recommend only movies that you ACTUALLY think people would LIKE... ;)

I´d like to participate, but I just don´t know all the schmoes here and the taste. So´ll have to pass.

Sorry Mike, great topic though.

Wait, I think I can do it with you:

Mike, I thing you´ll like:

and if you liked FAR FROM HEAVEN, you might like CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.

I've seen some of those, but you've touched up on 3 I've been dying to see...Tadpole, Deep End and Kissing Jessica Stein. I always forget them when in Blockbuster, but I always smack myself upon departure. I've never really heard much about Panic, so I'll definitely check that one out as well.

This is a very cool idea for a thread, but I don't know if I'd be able to think of any for people...I'll give it a go, though

Yay, Sad man "did it" with me ;) (ok, I'm perverted)...

Anyway, I already have plans to check out THE HOURS when it hits video. It looked really good, but I didn't have anyone to see it with in theaters. I couldn't imagine trying to convince any of my guy friends to go and see this with me in the theater.

And I may sound like an idiot, but what the hell is CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF? It's probably some classic or something and I'm going to sound like one of those annoying teeny boppers that I can't stand to some of you guys. But I honestly don't recall ever hearing the title until I read that you saw it in the "What film/s did everyone watch today?" topic.

Hey, how come you recommended all of the good ones to The Claw? I think there's some favortism going on ;).

Is Finding Graceland the one that came out a few years ago (in 1998 I think!?)? If so, I never really planned on renting it, but it had never been recommended to me either. I'll definitely consider it now. Even though I'm not too crazy about subtitles, I've been thinking about giving Ringu a shot lately. I'm sure I'll eventually pick it up. Do you really think I would like 24 Hour Party People? That's another one I've thought about renting. In fact, I almost did once, but the video store sent the wrong movie home with me instead (the horrible Brotherhood 3: Young Demons [2/10 or F---believe me, this rating is a generous one]).

Mike:
The Graduate
Parenthood
Little Voice
Brassed Off
Liberty Heights

I've seen Parenthood a long time ago and I remember liking it, but that's the only one. I actually did see the beginning of Little Voice on TV, but I shut it off. I will write it down and might pick it up sometime. I never wanted to see Brassed Off, I thought it looked dumb. I'll write it down anyway, and maybe sometime I'll see it. I'll probably see Liberty Heights sometime, I've always been curious about it. As for The Graduate, I actually haven't seen it yet, but it's another one I'll consider.

And Annie, since I know you love John Cusack (who doesn't? ;)), I was wondering if you've seen Gross Point Blank and if you think I'd like it? A friend of mine said it was really good and I was always curious about it, but I never rented it.

I'm going to write down the movies I get recommended and who recommended them to me (that way if they suck, I know who to "thank" ;)). This way I'll never have to worry about never having anything to rent again. I've said "there's nothing to rent" so many times before, but with schmoes constantly recommending movies, I should always have something to rent.

And by the way, I also have a couple of more recommendations that I've thought of for three schmoes that I've already recommended some to.

I've seen Grosse Point Blank, and almost recommended it to you, actually. It's a lot of fun, very cute, sleek, joyous little movie. A must for Cusack fans (i.e. everyone ;)).

Brassed Off has an odd plot, but it's a really cute little quirky film...as is Little Voice. If you like little British movies (along the lines of Billy Elliot and Full Monty), I bet you'll like these. :)

PS. Adam...Daredevil? Again? Oooh you remind me so of my up and coming pain...er... enjoyment ;)

Thanks to everyone who has commented me on the thread. I personally kind of like it myself too (not to sound self-absorbed or anything). It's just that I find myself wanting to recommend movies to people all of the time, and I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we could do it.

Anyway, I haven't seen Walking & Talking yet, but I think I'll like it and there's definitely a good chance I will rent it. Is Show Me Love the "lesbian" one? If so, it does sound good. However, neither of the video stores around here carry it. If I do get the chance sometime though, regardless of the subtitles, I'll check it out for you... About your recommendation to Annie about Reality Bites---all I have to say is that if you still haven't seen it yet Annie, then you should check it out. It's a really good one.

Annie:

I'll probably definitely see Grosse Point Blank. I still don't know about Brassed Off though, but I did like Billy Elliot and The Full Monty. I liked Billy Elliot more though. That one was really good.

I've seen both Heavenly Creatures and Save The Last Dance (8/10 or A-). I'm not sure what rating I'd give Heavenly Creatures. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Probably a 7/10 (B-)... What's Once Were Warriors about? I don't recall hearing of it before.

I really think you will like Walking and Talking. I would almost be shocked if you didn't give it at least a 7/10 or higher. And yes, Show Me Love is the lesbian one. It was a great movie and I know you will like it. I hope you can find it somewhere, it's definitely a tough one to track down.

I don't mean to spoil anyones fun or be mean or anything, but it is my firm belief that if anyone wants themselves to be mentioned, they should help out and mention other people. It kinda bugs me when people want themselves included and they don't include other people.

Awesome thread BTW!

I'm glad you like the thread and I must say, I kind of agree with you about what you said. I don't want to sound like a jerk either, but I just don't really want this to turn into a thread where we have a ton of people going "what about me? Nobody mentioned me." I really really don't want to sound mean at all, it just bugs me a little bit too. Personally, I don't know every schmoes taste, and I'm trying to only recommend movies to people that I ACTUALLY think they would LIKE. So if I don't really know the kind of movies some people like, then it's kind of hard to recommend them something. I only post the ones I can think of at the moment, and maybe as I get to know more peoples taste around here (especially some of the newer schmoes), then the more I will be able to recommend movies to them. Otherwise if I'm not too familiar with someones taste, then I'd basically just be recommending them something off the top of my head and I wouldn't be as certain if they'd really like it or not. And that's not how I want it to be. I want to recommend people movies that I really do think they'd like.

I'll probably see ADAPTATION eventually. As for THE GODFATHER, well, I really don't like mafia/mob movies and I have no desire to see this one. I really doubt I'd like it. Are these two movies that you really think I'd ACTUALLY like? As for PHONE BOOTH, I'll see it on video for sure. I'm sure I'll probably like it. The other two I'm not interested in at the moment, but that might change.

Well, I know Godfather and Adaptation don't have parts in it that involve a bi-curious woman seeking a female mate, Madonna trapped on an island, or Rob Schneider acting like a female, but they're just what I thought you might like. I didn't know of your hate towards mob movies, even though you don't need to like the mob genre to like Godfather. Adaptation is something I'd think you'd like, even if it gets a tad weird for your tastes. Considering you've been falling head over heels with All the Real Girls (or were, I'm not sure what your stance on it now is now), I figure you'd probably love RVV. Oh well, sorry I can't be of any help whatsoever

I hope I didn't sound rude or something, because you sound a little mad. I'm sure I will be seeing ADAPTATION eventually. I might see RVV someday too, but I just don't know too much about it. Well, I do now, since I went to Yahoo Movies and looked it up, but before then, all I was familiar with was the title. It sounds alright, and I might see it someday. I just don't ever want to see The Godfather, simply because it's not my kind of movie and I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I don't know much about The Producers either, except that it's a play or something.

Or I shall just help... but of course, still check out some info if ya want.

American President is a very well-written, acted romantic/comedy/drama w/ Annette Bening, Michael Douglas, Michael J. Fox, Martin Short and was from the dude who created The West Wing. It's very likable and it's grows on you. I don't see how you won't love it.

Hannah and Her Sisters is a Woody Allen filn, don't know how you feel about him, but this is another one of those films that is impossible not to love. It's very realistic in terms of relationships, love, family and such and has some great writing, dialogue and so on. You may like it.

The Man on the Moon is a very good coming-of-age drama starring a young Reese Witherspoon, who is actually quite great in the role. It's sweet, touching and beautifully shot, which I know you like... it's just a really good movie. I know Idealdiscountdude LOVES this flick, so he will agree with me...

Diner is just a very good early 80s "dramedy" starring Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Daniel Stern, Steve Gutteberg... it's very funny and entertaining. Great music and snowing settings and just makes you feel good about yourself... it's kinda like an earlier version of Beautiful Girls...

Yeah, FINDING GRACELAND came out a few years ago. It debuted on Cinemax, but it's a higher-caliber flick than most that premiere there. Johnathan Schaech plays a widower who picks up a hitchhiker (Harvey Keitel) who claims he is the one and only Elvis Presley. Together, they make the journey to the anniversary of Elvis' "death," encountering a few characters along the way, including a casino's Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Bridget Fonda).

Sounds very cheesy, but it's a very sweet, very cool picture. The vigil scene at Graceland at the end...priceless. Definitely recommended.

I saw Newsies at the video store, but I haven't actually seen the movie. I don't know exactly what it's about, but I'll keep it in mind when I go to the video store.

The other three I know of, but I'm not so sure if I want to see them or not.

Hmm, you're right, it does sound a "little" cheesy, but I'll probably eventually pick it up. Thanks for the recommendation.

I would rent Family Guy, but my video store doesn't have it. If I ever get the chance to see it though, I probably will.

I'm not familiar with A Bronx Tale.

I've heard mixed things about 12 Monkeys. I wouldn't doubt I'll see it someday though.

The Transporter is another one I'll see eventually.

I've seen Addicted To Love a couple of times, and despite quite a few people not liking it, I actually really enjoyed it.

The Hours and Chicago I will definitely rent on video. They both look excellent.

What's Cabaret? Is it a musical or something? All I know is that it's a play.

I checked out Sad man's review in the Video Capsules forum of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, and with both of you guys recommending it to me, I think I'll check it out sometime. If this was a long time ago though, I might not have, since it's an older movie and B&W, which I wouldn't have liked. But I'm trying to keep my mind more open lately.

Mike ~ I'm actually very interested in Bound and I'll definatley check it out. As for the others, I will eventually see them. Someday Mike, someday.

A Bronx Tale is a very good coming of age drama about a teen living in the bronx and the influences the local mob boss and his father, who is trying to keep him on the right track, have on him. It shares similar themes with American History X.

Also, I recommend Sleepers to you Mike.

it's not that i don't like Kubrick, but i feel that most of his movies could have been much, much better with another director, cause the material is almost always good. WASABI might be a bit annoying, as it matches Reno up with the human equivalent of a Pokemon crossed with a Powerpuff Girl, but there's some definite guilty pleasure qualities I think you'll love.

Empire is one of Spielberg's most underrated efforts. Just a beautiful, wrenching movie.

And A Simple Twist of Fate is a small Steve Martin flick which nobody has ever even heard of. I think you'll like it, because it's about a father's love for his daughter. Highly enjoyable.

Sabrina (the remake) - 6/10 - haven't seen the original
Apt Pupil - 7.5/10
The Impostors - not really sure what movie it is... there are too many "impostor" movies out there!

And yes, TTOP is quite good (9/10 for me, i was surprised i liked that much when i saw it, is a great spies comedic thriller, full of cinism and satire)

And I'm sure you'd love The Straight Story and Funny Games too, not sure why ;)

The original Sabrina is MUCH better than the remake, I'd recommend it, definitely.

The Impostors in question is the Stanley Tucci-Oliver Platt screwball oddity of a film. I loved it, but..it's not quite conventional :)

The Straight Story I've been wanting to see for a while...Seems like a Lynch film I might actually enjoy :)

Funny Games I'd love to see, but don't know when I'll get the chance. And I'll definitely look out for "Tailor" too...Maybe it'll surprise me.

Cool idea Mike!

I know I know, I still haven't seen Kissing Jessica Stein but I have been meaning to!

Like KJS I have been wanting to see Tadpole and Panic for quite a long time, but evey time I go to the video store I forget all about them!

High Heel's and Low Life's looks interesting but I'm kind of weary that itll be a stinker, so I have been waiting for it to become a 7 day rental.......its still a new release at my video store.

The Curse and The Mating Habits Of The Earthbound Human don't really tickle my fancy (mainly because they are STV flicks I believe) but I may check 'em out.....I have actually heard somewhat positive things about them.

Some cool pick's Mike, I hope to maybe check out a couple of them on the weekend.

Ideal's Recommendations:

ALL SCHMOES

Eve's Bayou starring Jurnee Smollett, Samuel L. Jackson, Debbi Morgan, and Lynn Whitfield. Directed by Kasi Lemmons

The Perez Family starring Marisa Tomei, Alfred Molina, Anjelica Huston, and Chazz Palmenteri. Directed by Mira Nair.

and

Safe starring Julianne Moore. Directed by Todd Haynes.

From what I have seen, hardly any of y'all have seen these two amazing films. The two best films of the 1990's IMO.

Being a huge Burton fan, I have seen, and love, Frankenweenie (9/10).

I didn't care much for BUCKAROO BANZAI, but I'm in the minority on this one. It's an unusual cult classic, and it has some trippy elements I think you'd like.

I actually own In Dreams (A-)! It's a creepy, visually stunning, and suspenseful film that does not get the credit it deserves.

I also love School Ties (B+), a great "little film" in which Brendan Fraser actually acts.

Bulworth (B) was pretty good. Halle Berry and Warren Beatty gave great performances.

Actually, I see you enjoying HIGH HEELS & LOW LIFE'S. It's not a bad movie at all, it was very enjoyable. I had to buy it right away after seeing it. I was very surprised with it. It's a little seen movie that doesn't really deserve to be.

As soon as I watched THE CURSE I immediately thought of you and Flowrchild. I couldn't help but think you guys might like it. It's a well written movie. Don't let the fact that it's a STV movie bother you. It's a low budget independent film that wasn't lucky enough to get a theatrical release. It was supposed to be released limited, but I think $$$ issues prevented that. It did have several screenings though and was at some festivals. It's a good movie, and should surprise you.

THE MATING HABITS OF THE EARTHBOUND HUMAN was also surprisingly smart and funny. I've seen it around 3 times and everyone I've watched it with has enjoyed it. It was much better than I expected. I really think you'd enjoy it.

And yes, definitely get around to seeing KISSING JESSICA STEIN, TADPOLE, and PANIC. But of course, make KISSING JESSICA STEIN your top priority. ;)

Remember, I did recommend THE HOLE to you, which was another movie you didn't want to see. And you ended up loving it, just like I thought you would. So until I recommend something absolutely atrocious to you, you'll just have to trust me. ;)

Anyway, I would rent EVE'S BAYOU, but as you know, my video store doesn't have it. If I ever get the chance to see it though, I will.

I saw HIGHER LEARNING and it was good, but I thought it tried to fit too much into one movie. I can't remember what I gave it for a rating. I think it was either a 6/10 (C+), 6/10 (B-), or 7/10 (B-). It's probably one of the 6/10's though.

I loved SLIVER (8/10 or B+). I saw it after I saw BASIC INSTINCT (8/10 or B+), since I loved it and had a new crush on Sharon Stone. I couldn't help but enjoy it. A lot of people hate it, but I thought it was fun. I guess I could say it's a guilty pleasure.

I saw MYSTIC PIZZA a few times when I was a kid, because my sisters loved it. So for the longest time pretty much all I could remember from that movie was the part with them in the truck and then the dumping of the fish. That was until I saw it again a year or two ago. I thought it was really good. I eventually would like to buy it, but I have a lot of movies I want to buy, so who knows if I'll ever get around to it or not. I hope to though.

I haven't seen THE ACCUSED, DO THE RIGHT THING, or WHEN A STRANGER CALLS yet. I'll write them down...

I've seen 2000 Leauges Under The Sea and it is a great adventure film. The right amount of action, sci-fi, comedy, and the cheesy B movie-factor.

I have also seen Citizen Ruth (7/10) and it was a funny, quirky, and interesting film. Not great, but entertaining.

Bird on a Wire (7/10) is quite cheesy, but also quite funny. Good flick.

Time Code is a film I've always been scared to rent. The "4 screen" thing scared me, but if you liked it, I'll check it out.

I find it hilarious that you mentioned Toy Soliders. I too watched it a lot as a kid, and it is an awesome 80's action flick. I really like Sean Astin and this is one of his better films in terms of pure entertainment value.

No prob, Pater. I picked 3 O'clock High cause it's a quirky little 80's comedy. Lots of fun.

Wait, is 3 o'clock high about a kid who has to meet a bully after school at the flagpole for a fight or somenthing? I think I may have seen it. But I'll check it out again.

As for 80's fare, I recommend Amazon Women on the Moon to you. It's a collection of sketches bound together by a cheesy sci fi flick.

Yeah, Light of Day isn't the greatest, but The Fabulous Thunderbirds do have that one concert scene in it, almost worth the price of a rent IMO  . C'mon, Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett?!? What a pair. Anyway, I've never seen The Commitments, just always heard good things. I'll check it out...

You have to do me the biggest favor. See MAY! I don't know if this theater is anywhere around you, but it will be showing at the Cinema Village in New York, NY on June 6th. If this theater is in reach of you, PLEASE go see it for me. Unfortunately, it won't be coming anywhere near me :(, unless of course I want to take a 1-2 day drive to Chicago, IL., which actually is sounding kind of tempting. Anyway, PLEASE PLEASE see this for me if you can. I'd love to know what you think of it and it's in such a limited release that you're lucky just to have it show somewhere near you. Anyway, I think June 6th is just the date it's supposed to start there, so it very well could still be playing when you get back. Man, I sure wish I had an independent/art house theater near me. It seems everyone does but me :(.

I really hope you love it, and I have a feeling you will. It seems like something you will really enjoy. The minute you see it, you have to let me know what you thought. I'm just dying to know. Since I can't see it yet, I have to live through everyone else that is lucky enough to catch it ;).

Well I went to the video store today and rented Kissing Jessica Stein, Panic, and a classic, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?.

I watched Panic this afternoon and it was okay. The acting was great, especially little David Dorfman (The Ring) who managed to outshine William H.Macy, Tracey Ullman, and Donald Sutherland which is no easy feat IMO. The boy is talented!

The film itself was intriguing, but kind of blew me the wrong way. It started out great but went downhill about 3/4's of the way through. A good effort, but I have mixed feelings about it.

IF YOU LIKE FILM AND CAN STAND WOODY ALLEN.....

Manhattan!

IF YOU LIKE A GOOD FILM NOIR.....

IF YOU LIKE AWESOME "CHARACTER" FILMS....

Taxi Driver!

IF YOU JUST LIKE GREAT MOVIES...

Godfather I and II!

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN JAPANESE CINEMA....

Seven Samurai!

....BUT CAN'T SIT THROUGH A 3 HOUR JAPANESE FILM....

Yojimbo!

IF YOU WANT TO LAUGH LIKE A MORON (and can stand Woody Allen)...

Love and Death!

IF YOU WANT TO LAUGH LIKE A MORON (but can't stand Woody Allen)...

Young Frankenstein!

IF YOU VALUE ESCAPISM....

Raiders of the Lost Ark!

If it's Boorman's THE GENERAL, then I've caught it...'twas an ok picture, but maybe I'd like it better if I saw it in black and white. It just looked odd colorized.

I'm glad you finally rented Kissing Jessica Stein. I'm praying that you love it.

It's too bad that you didn't like PANIC more. I kind of didn't know what you would think of it for sure, since you didn't like American Beauty. I figured you would at least like it better than American Beauty though. I agree about Dorfman, DAMN, he was GREAT in this movie. I just love that kid. I think he's incredibly talented and he's my favorite child actor. He shines here and gives the best performance in it! I also thought Neve Campbell gave a really good performance.

I'll have to try and rent a couple of your recommendations now ;).

I find it really funny that you thought the twists in WILD THINGS were ludicrous, yet you LOVED Basic. I really thought you would enjoy this movie more than you did. All of the twist added up. I loved how they showed how everything came together during the credits. If they wouldn't have then I bet a bunch of people probably would have been like "the twists don't add up."

As for Equilibrium, well, I'm going to rent it sometime, but I think I'll wait until it's cheaper. I don't want to have to pay full price for it.

The other movie, I haven't heard of. I know the director from a literal standpoint, but like you might have noticed, Bubba's movie grasp is very American circa 1975 - now.

PLOT:

A family's quiet evening turns into a nightmare when three intruders break in, hell bent on torture and destruction. As the family is taken hostage, only sixteen-year-old Lori Beth and her young sister Mary escape. As the mayhem and torment spin out of control, Lori Beth realizes that she is her family's only hope. Playing an insane killer, Muse Watson (I Know What You Did Last Summer) delivers another spine-tingling performance in this nail-biting thriller.

Trust me, it's not just a cheesy STV movie. A friend of mine and I rented it summer of 2001 because we didn't really have anything else to rent, and we both really liked it. Both of us found it disturbing. I think I probably liked it a tad more than him though, or maybe I was just more enthusiastic about it (I sometimes tend to be a little enthusiastic about some movies ;)). Anyway, whoa, it's brutal and disturbing, but really really good. A thriller that truly thrills! It didn't contain a single boring minute. The action starts right away, and doesn't stop. I think it's a little gem that not many have seen... SEE IT!

You can even check out Arrow's review of it...

The thing is that all the movies in your list would probably make your aunt's heart beat faster because of their generally dark content. MAGNOLIA may not but it may force her to want to wash dishes instead. Anything would be more fun than a trip to the dentist. I think your safest bets would be THE DEER HUNTER, CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL, THE PARALLAX VIEW, A SIMPLE PLAN and BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, although my preferences would include the 7 De Niro films in the list. ;)

I really want you to check out BOUND, but I don't think the best place to see it would be at your aunt's place. Well, I guess if you want to give her a stroke you can, but otherwise it might not be the best idea.

I'd say these would be best:

CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL (She should like this, and it won't kill her ;))
PANIC (If she liked American Beauty, she should like this)
BOYS DON'T CRY (This one is an iffy)
THE HILLS HAVE EYES (This all depends on how she feels about horror movies. I thought this one was kind of disturbing, so if you think she can handle that, go for it)

SET IT OFF and A SIMPLE PLAN should be fine though, although SET IT OFF has a lot of swearing, so if you don't think she'd mind that, then get it. MAGNOLIA is kind of iffy, but I think it would be alright.

If you want something nice and light to watch with her, you could pick up MY FATHER THE HERO with hottie Katherine Heigl. Or you could pick up THE HOT CHICK with hottie Anna Faris.

Oh believe me Shaka, I have seen every Coen film at least five times...I really like Blood Simple however I think it isn't as good as some of their others.

Oh, and I will recommend a film for you...hmmm, now what to choose...Punch-Drunk Love which is quirky in it's own right, similar to Wes Anderson and the Coen's style, only with a PTA spin on it. If you've already seen it, I wouldn't be surprised, for then I'll recommend Angel Heart because of how eerie I found it.

Yes, directed by Hector Babenco (KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN), it's about a 10 yr. old kid who lives a life of crime. It's raw, brutal, haunting and deeply moving.

THE HOT CHICK? Why bother?

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN - Mildly entertaining and instantly forgettable.

THE PIANIST - As good as SCHINDLER'S LIST, if not better. Great performance by Adrien Brody.

25TH HOUR - Spike Lee's best film since DO THE RIGHT THING. Profoundly moving.

A SIMPLE PLAN - Pretty good thriller.

I've seen She's The One (7/10 or B-) a few times and liked it. I haven't seen the other one yet, and have always considered renting it, but just never did. I'll write it down and will probably give it a rent sometime.

Mike, you should check out Sleepaway Camp 2 (8/10)sometime if you haven't seen it yet. It's a very fun movie, but I wouldn't recommend the first one because it was really boring and wierd (5/10). The first and second are nothing alike. If you see the second and like it then you should check out the third (7/10).

This weekend is when I'll start checking out all of the movies on my list...

I've actually already seen the second one. I saw it a few times when I was little because my sister and her boyfriend would rent it all of the time. Then I saw it Fall of 2000 with a friend of mine, we rented it for Halloween. It's a pretty fun (and funny) flick. I haven't seen the first or third though, because neither of my video stores carry them. They only have the second one. If I ever do get the chance to check out the first and third though, I probably will. I know you said the first wasn't very good, but I'd still probably get it out of curiousity.

Anyway Horror Whore, feel free to give me some recommendations. Do you know of anything you've seen that you think I'd like? I was kind of hoping you'd give me some, but so far no such luck (other than the one right now that I've already seen ;)).

Land And Freedom (1995) Ken Loach movie about the Spanish Civil War I loathe this movie! 2/10! Don't ask why, i saw it a few years ago, but i think it's the most manipulative movie i've seen, and just because it TRIES to portrait an episode of spanish history don't qualify it as a good movie. But, as i said, i saw it a lot of time ago, so my opinion is due to modification. Anyway, it's not a movie i want to see again.

I've been trying to track down this flick foverer!!!

No DVD release as yet, and VHS copies are like gold-dust.

'Tis a real bastard to get hold of this one.

I enjoyed Land and Freedom myself...but Loach rarely puts a foot wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Manipulative???
Was it the politics or something that made you dislike it?
I think it does a very good job of portraying the Spanish Civil War and what it was like... I've read Orwell's novel "Homage To Catalonia" and the movie is very similar, so I think that it's a pretty realistic movie

I just watched Igby Goes Down, and i can't thank you enough, flowrchild. Wow...what a great movie! I love this film already, throughout the feature I was cracking up and the several intelligent jokes, and the whole time I had a big smile on my face. I still have one now, just a few minutes after the credits finished rolling, great film...probably my number 1 of last year so far. Thanks!

Got any more? lol

Awesome! I am glad you liked it :) It is one of my favorites from last year as well. Woohoo!

Another movie I'd recommend is The Last Supper. Have you seen that one? It's from 1995 and it's a dark independent movie about 5 liberal grad students who decide to have a guest over for dinner every sunday (with very right-wing extremist views) and if they can't change their narrow views, they poison them. It's basically about how political extremity on either side can result in disaster. Highly entertaining demented flick.
