I just got my PS2 and i've been using the DVD player. It doesn't really work all that great. Also i bought the Dogma DVD and the picture is all screwed up. I think it's because I hook up the PS2 through the VCR. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, the DVD player is a piece of crap...I suggest you don't use it that often..

I don't have a PS2, but it's my understanding that the video of most DVD players run through a VCR will look goofy. They're designed that way so you won't make VHS copies of DVDs.

My PS2 Runs fine with movies as long as it doesnt overheat, then... they skip.

Brain is right about the look on the picture if it ran through a VCR. I have no probs with mine. I even have a sound system to it. Granted it's not as good as the DVD player in my living room, but it works fine.
I use my PS2 to play DVDS...Its hooked up to the TV and it runs great...

My PS2 DVD works perfectly. Odds are good it's that whole VCR thing, or else maybe yours is just faulty.

i own over 40 DVDs and all i have to use is my PS2. Never had a single problem.
I have a remote and my only gripe is that menu you have to bring up to use some of the features like alternate angle, slo mo, etc.
I will eventually get a stand alone DVD player...but i'm just fine for now. And I will probably still use both.
Sony is actually releasing an official more advanced remote with new DVD drivers for a better movie experience.
I got mine and it works fine.

mine works perfectly too, it does skip a few times, but it only happened to me like twice, and ive used it a lot. i also bought some link cable thing so the picture is better looking. now all i need is a remote, im tired of using this stupid padle.

I have two DVD players (PSX2 and a Toshiba) and they both work great for me, but sometimes for certain DVD's I gotta put in a password for the PSX2, it works fine for me. But it doesn't have the effect like my Toshiba has http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Yeah the ps2 dvd playback is really weak. use it only if you have to. the picture is MUCH better using a standalone dvd player

you mean a quality stand alone player right? cause i'm sure that the ps2 has better playback than some players out there. i find the playback just find and thats without the s-video cable. plus the DVD/game machine technology opens up new avenues, such as the ps2 only version of the final fantasy movie.
I would say its worse than pretty much any stand alone dvd player. my ps2 looks like crap, all sorts of blockiness

I haven't used it, but I run my DVD player through my VCR and it works fine. I hooked my miniDV camcorder up to the VCR, though, to record a VHS tape to miniDV - During that time I had the DVD player, and as soon as I hooked the camera up to VCR and set it up to record, a message came on and the camera shut down. I would use my ps2 for a dvd player, but it doesn't play SVCD's or even VCD's, so I dont' bother with it
