I don't consider films from the United Kingdom foreign films otherwise I'd pick them for sure.

France wins easily.

Thanks for including Canada, but seriously....:D

I went "Other", so I'll specify... Hong Kong... top to bottom, I love HK cinema. Drama, Comedy, ACTION, Horror, Romance... it rules.

Japan would be a close second tho.

Then I guess I'll stick "American" in there, cause for all the utter SHIT they put out, they do put out some great stuff too.

Japan.

I love UK films (not the likes of Bridget Jones, Full Monty, Lock, Stock and other such bollocks), but I wouldn't consider them "foreign"...because, well...I live here....

for me, its a tie between France/Japan with Italy leading in cult movies(Spaghetti Westerns, Gialli, Eurocrime)

France makes the most interesting films of any country...I just saw The Piano Teacher recently and was wowed by it.

A close second would be Japan, whose anime work and Kurosawa films make it one of the leaders in great movies.

Gotta give my vote to France after seeing The Fifth Element and The Transporter. I'm surprised that Canada got two votes, we Canadians suck when it comes to making movies IMO.

JAPAN (Miyazaki, Kitano, Kurosawa, Ozu, Takahata), followed by CHINA/HK (Woo, Hark, Lam, Kar-Wai), followed by FRANCE (Truffaut, Godard, Clouzot, Tati), followed by GERMANY (Herzog, Wiene, Murnau, Wenders).

I also love UK cinema (though probably not as much as BCV ;)) but it's not foreign in my case...

It's hard for me to decide between France and Japan....Truffaut and Kurosawa are my two favorite foreign film directors. I'll just say those are my top two.
