Hey, look what happenned when I ran a search for BTTF on Amazon:
Back to the Future (1985)
NOT YET RELEASED: The studio is currently not producing this title on DVD, but to be notified when it is available, enter your e-mail address at right. You'll also be voting for this release; we'll let the studio know how many customers are waiting for this title.
Are they crazy, stupid or something of the sort? How come they didnīt relese one of the best movies ever on DVD?

Stupid? Maybe. Your guess is as good as anybodies.

We could all go and sign in their "let-me-know" list, in order to let the studio know how eager we are to see BTTF on DVD.

They were hoping to release it this Christmas in America, but plans have been "delayed", it doesn't look like its gonna come out for a while.

This info comes from Bob Gale, don't quote me on it, its from memory, but its pretty much correct:
Some big suit at Universal thought that DVDs wouldn't take off and sold DVD rights to their films to Columbia/Tristar so when stuff like the Jaws Aniversary Edition came out they lost a lot of money. Bob Gale thinks they are hold back the release of BTTF until the deal with Columbia/Tristar ends so they can make all the money themselves. This should be by the end of this year.
Thats pretty much the gist of it.

I got word from my old roommate saying that his friend got a job with Universal doing work on DVDS, and he's currently working on the special features of "Back to the Future." So expect a release early Spring 2002.
