Angelina and Billy Bob Are Finito

Complementary tattoos, vials of blood and public displays of affection didn't mean squat Tuesday as Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton's marriage was officially dissolved in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Superior Court records, published on the Smoking Gun Website, indicate Jolie was granted an uncontested divorce. Meanwhile, the actress let Thornton off the hook, waiving her rights to spousal support payments.

Instead, the erstwhile wacky lovebirds have agreed upon a separate and confidential agreement regarding support payments and visitation rights to their 21-month-old son, Maddox. Custody details over the adopted child were not released.

The couple's botched bliss makes it Thornton's fifth failed marriage and Jolie's second go-around. The 47-year-old Sling Blade star also has two sons and a daughter from his previous marriages.

Despite an intense and oddly public courtship, the 27-year-old actress filed for divorce in July 2002 citing the age-old justification "irreconcilable differences." Tabloid talk says Thornton abandoned his young wife and child 11 days after the Cambodian-born baby was brought back to Los Angeles from Asia last June.

"It's clear to me that our priorities shifted overnight," Jolie said in an Us Weekly interview at the time. Somehow, four ex-wives didn't tip her off to the fact that Thornton wasn't the domestic type.

Three years earlier, the Oscar winners had coupled in typical Hollywood fashion, meeting while playing marrieds in 1999's Pushing Tin. In May 2000, they tied the knot in a no-frills Sin City ceremony on the Las Vegas Strip decked out in his-and-her jeans.

For all her nutty behavior (remember the Oscar 2000 smooch with brother Jamie?), Jolie proved to be more than just a Hollywood bad girl. In 2001, she was appointed a United Nations goodwill ambassador, charged with focusing worldwide attention on the plight of refugees.

The actress turned humanitarian took up the cause while working on her 2001 summer blockbuster, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, during which she visited refugee camps in Sierra Leone and Cambodia. She later put the research to good use filming the upcoming release Beyond Borders, a romance revolving around international aid workers, due in theaters in October.

In spite of her personal problems, including a bizarre estrangement from her father Jon Voight, the single mom's kept busy. Jolie shot a Tomb Raider sequel Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life slated for July. She also lent her voice to the 2004 animated release Sharkslayer, shot a cameo in the sci-fi project World of Tomorrow and started production on the serial killer thriller Taking Lives opposite Ethan Hawke.

Meanwhile, Thornton's made good use of his single status to ratchet up a laundry list of credits, including the George Clooney-Catherine Zeta-Jones vehicle Intolerable Cruelty due out in October. That same month, Thornton will star in the comedic release Bad Santa. Next is a holiday 2003 release The Alamo, based on the true story of the men who defended the Texas fort. Thornton is currently making the art-house rounds in Levity, as an ex-con seeking redemption.

A sometime country-rock singer, Thornton also just signed on to play a set at Willie Nelson's annual July 4 bash in Austin, Texas, and will open for Heart at an L.A. show August 3. No word on whether he'll perform the lead track from his 2002 album Private Radio, a little ditty called "Angelina."

I don't hink I can watch a movie with this guy in it. He does not appeal to me in any way. I thought Jolie was quite loopy but she has been pretty admirable lately- if it can all be believed. I don't get the bit about joint custody- I'm pretty sure the divorce was based on the fact that she adopted the baby and he didn't want to be a father again.

LAura Dern was living with this guy for years and she went away on location for a movie and when she came home she discovered he had left to marry Jolie. But of course, he had left his wife (before Laura) to be with Laura. What do these women see in this guy? Seems sleazy to me.

Precisely what I was just thinking - I thought her insistence on adopting Maddox was what put a rift between them. Maybe she's convinced him to try and at least be something of a father figure in the little boy's life...though I can't say I'd want Thornton as any kind of figure if I had kids.

Shame about those two crazy kids, I thought they were perfect for each other. I wonder what she'll do with her little vial of his blood now...

Kind of a shame. I like them both, very much.

I'm sending her my resume and a vial of blood.

They were an odd pair, indeed. I remember reading/hearing somethng she said in the effect of, 'we built a padded room in our home that we can go to during the night when we are just so crazy in love with eachother, they we need to be in there to deal with it'. M'kay.

Yes, I had also heard that he left his wife for Laura Dern, she she didn't know hre and Billy were overand he married Angelina until she read about it or heard it on the news. Well, you get what you give, I guess! Karma can be a bitch!
