View Full Version : Are your friends complete idiots while watching a movie too?

Ok, I love my friends to death, but I got to get this off my chest. My friends fucking piss me off while watching a movie!!!!!!!
Now, I am not talking about watching a movie at the theatres. I am talking about watching a movie at home on DVD.
Dear God, I am in college and have 3 other roomates in our house and when the movie goes in....they will say the stupidest shit!

I am like, "Dude, this isnt fucking Mystery Science Theatre 3000, so keep your unfunny stupid comments to yourself"

Its almost like they have fucking ADD when it comes to watching movies. They cant fucking keep quiet for an hour and a half to two hours. They will start talking about what their presentation is going to be about, or midterms during the movie and I am like "FUCK! The reason I like watching movies is to escape all that school bullshit for like 2 hours, then I can go back to worrying about that crap."

Another thing that pisses me off is when one of my friends always brings up something about a certain actor in the movie. When we were watching Lord of the Rings, he kept on saying that Gary Sinese was in it. WTF?! I had to keep fucking telling him that wasnt Gary Sinese when it was the Irish terrorist from Patriot Games.

Then there are the times when your friends just dont "get" the movie. For example, I was watching The Big Hit with a couple of my friends and some girls and they had no fucking clue that The Big Hit didnt take itself seriously at all. One of the girls said "Man, Lou Diamond Phillips is a really bad actor" I responded by saying that his character was supposed to be over the top and stupidly funny.
When Marky Mark went back to retrieve the overdue movie rental, one of my friends said, "Just leave it! Just leave it you moron!" I was like, are you fucking serious? That whole concept of him retrieving the overdue movie was not meant to be taken serisously.

Well my little rant is over.
It just sucks being the only movie buff in the house.
peace

Trust me, I feel your pain. I watch a lot of movies with my housemate, and I've only just broken him of the habit of asking inane questions all through the movie. I watch a lot of horror, which he's not into, and all the way through the video/DVD I used to get a barrage of this:

"What did they just do that for?"
"What's that guy doing now?"
"She's a virgin? Does that mean she's not gonna die?"
"Why are they going in that house?"
"Is he the killer?"
"Why don't they just call the police?"
"That's a really stupid move...what the hell is he thinking?"
"Are those two going to end up together at the end?"
"Didn't I see him/her in that other movie you showed me?"

Or, as you described, we'll be halfway into something I've rented and really want to see, and he'll start talking about work (I work for his company). In these instances I usually bite my tongue and pause the film, but when he starts in with those inane questions, instead of having said questions answered by watching the bloody movie, I just want to thump him until he shuts up. He's not as bad as he used to be, but he's still occasionally annoying.

I'd say make it clear to your housemates that you just want to enjoy the flick without any chatter, or watch it on your own first so you can enjoy the film.

Good luck. :)

My favorite is when someone walks into the room when I'm watching a movie and base their whole entire opinion of the movie on the 5 seconds they see.

I was watching "Donnie Darko" and someone walks in during the scene where Donnie and Frank are sitting in the theater. They said in a brusque tone: "What the hell are you watching?". To which my reponse was: "Why do you say it like that? Because you walk in during a scene where a kid is sitting next to a guy dressed in a bunny suit. This happens to be one of the best films made in the past 5 years. And if you sat down and watched from the beginning, you'd see that."

Shit like this shit pisses me the fuck off. Okay, I'm done.

I dont mind talking now & then but competiting with the sound of the movie then thats a different story. Talking about an actor or reference to a scence in the movie I also dont mind but when the pace gets stupid or getting ur actors and movie titles mixed up then I am getting annoyed. Either Shut the hell up or if its a DVD/VHS movie I will stop the movie and watch it at a later time.....

I rented BOOGIE NIGHTS once. It's one of my favourite films.

My housemates wanted to watch TIMECOP first. So we sat all the way through that.

Finally, I got to put BOOGIE NIGHTS on. Then the first 'porn movie' scene started and one of my housemates turned to me and said, in disgust, 'Is it all like that?'

I said, 'Like what?'

She said, 'All sex?'

I said, 'Well, it's about the adult film industry. But it's smart. It's not exploitation.'

Ten minutes later, she got up and said, 'I'm goig to bed. I'm not staying up to watch this disgusting crap.'

And remember - she had just watched ALL of TIMECOP and thought it was pretty good. I admit TIMECOP is fun to watch - but it's not a good movie compared to BOOGIE NIGHTS. And TIMECOP is FAR more exploitative than BOOGIE NIGHTS - and with less justification.

My friends only talk if something is really bad.

I remember when we went and saw Tears of the Sun...nobody in the theater liked it, so it turned into a MST3K-type experience...

I always have friends like this. And it is like I am the only one understanding a certain movie. Like say The Shining. They had no clue what was going on. I was like c'mon! It isn't that hard to understand. Ushualy I don't mind really stupid comments about horror movies, because they are the kind of movies you like to make fun of. The only friend that didn't laugh at Rules of Attraction and Boogie Nights was my friend Kevin. He understands everything, and is a huge film buff like I am. Don't get me wrong, I love all my friends, but when they are laughing when Sam in I am Sam loses his child, it is just wrong.

I cant watch movies with my roommate either.

Lets say something bad happens to a female protagonist. My roommate would say something along the lines of "it happened to her because she was fat/ugly/a bitch" or he would yell "loooser" or something comparable.. Or if an attractive character comes up, hes like "damn...I would hit that".

One time, during a documentary called "Devil's Playground" I got pissed off and he was like "dude...im just joking". (Devil's Playground was a Sundance selection in 2001 that had to do with the identity conflicts within Amish teens) The thing is that shit like that takes me "out" of the movie completely.

Psu, Devils Playground was filmed 30 minutes from my house. Some people I know, know people that hung out with a couple of the kids in the movie. I really liked Devils Playground, it was a nice in depth look into the Amish lifestyle, and if I had been watching it with a friend, and he made comments like that, Im sure I woulda got pissed off too.

my asshole friends literally LOVE the following:

#1 "home alone"
#2 "anything that shows tits"
#3 anything that has a character fart
#4 anything that you can talk through and still understand what its about i.e. dumb and dumber

I have been teased for watching pulp fiction around them,,,,they just dont get it.

oh yeah, they also thought shawshank was totally stupid

they disgust me

06-01-2003, 09:18 PM
yeah i had friends like that
well, they would just annoy me. asking me a question every five seconds. it got on my nerves....and when i said "just watch, you'll find out" they'd ask another question ten seconds later.

now i know i can't watch movies i actually want to hear with those friends....

My friends are split into two groups:

1. Friends that love movies as much as I do.

2. Friends who I watch bad, or at least light, films with.

So no, I don't really have this problem.

quoth_the_raven
06-02-2003, 10:24 AM
i watch movies on my own or with my girlfriend, who is very well behaved.

hmmm....no problems here then :D:D

I only watch movies with my girlfriend, and she's not stupid, so I don't have that problem.

But dude, The Big Hit fucking blew. Your friends are right.

I can talk my arse off. Just read any of my posts. But during a movie, there will be no talking. I have literally kicked people out of my house for that. My wife backs away in terror when I give her "the look" as she feels the need to discuss matching floor mats during movies. Even my 2 year old knows to go and make the noise somewhere else when its movie time for daddy.

To her Credit, my 5 year old is totally into movies. And I am bringing her along to the fold quite nicely. I started her off on 2001: A Space Odessy, let her lean into Godfather I, she can watch a Star War marathon without coffee and No-doze, and very soon she will be on hear bitching and moaning about the CGI in the upcoming Shrek 2 movie. But she can come in on movie hour, sit down and get into it. These days she's taken to asking all sorts of questions after the movie. Hehehe, future movie geek in training. I'm so proud.

LOL!
Hey Grebburn the Big Hit did blow a fat one but that wasnt the point. The point was that they actually were taking it seriously. One of my friends was completely dumbfounded to why Marky Mark went back and got the overdue movie, when it was meant as a job and not to be SERIOUS.

Also, I fucking hate when my friends ask questions every fucking five seconds.

Grebdron
06-02-2003, 04:55 PM
What questions?

Why?

How often do they ask questions?

Who's asking?

Why?

Why?

Why?

Why?

Are we there yet?

I remeber when I watched Donnie Darko at my college suite with firends i was teased for watching such a weird movie. And they had this mantra going that it was weird. They said every five fucking seconds.

I just watched Jackass: The Movie and my buds didn't get some of it.
"Why are they in Japan?" "Who's Johnny Knoxville?" "Why are they doing that?"
Ahhh!! Just shut the hell up and watch!

Thats Grebs sexual nickname. After having his way with someone, due to his skin rubbing against them, it makes a little red mark which is known as a Grebburn.

I beleive Reigh was the first recipient. :D ;)

My friend thinks Adaptation looks stupid, is highly looking forward to 2 Fast 2 Furious, liked Master of Disguise, and Blade 2 is his favorite film. I love him to death but he is a fucking idiot and does not deserve to watch movies.

My friends are like that, too.

When I watch something, they talk non-stop. Which is something I cannot deal with. They ask some VERY stupid questions, which I always have to answer.

Plus, non of them share the same love for film that I do.

That's why I love this place :D

I tell you what really annoys me. Now I don't mind talking, I don't mind making rude or sarcastic comments or referencing other movies, not at all. But I hate watching horror movies with a bunch of people and hearing screeching ear piercing screaming, when its not even scary. I'm talking Route 666 fluff movie crap here not The Ring. I mean picture this, my friend and I up at two o clock trying to watch Route 666 and he wouldn't shut up. The zombie dudes were scaring him. God I need to get new freuinds

Yeah, the questions get me going, especially when it is the first time I am seeing a movie. If soeone asks me what is going on or why did so and so do such and such, I get pissed. I'm always like, "We are watching the same f-ing movie, we have seen the exact same f-ing footage, I do not have access to some secret knowledge, I just pay a-fucking-tention!!! If you so the same, you will know too. Or sometime they ask a question in like the first 5 minutes and it's like, ya know,m we're probably not supposed to know yet, just keep paying attention and f it's a good movie, it will become clear at some point.

Side note to Greb. I actually enjoyed The Big Hit. I thought it was funny.

and Hey, when do I get a Grebburn? Why does Reigh get to have all the fun?

Don't know the director's name of The Big Hit, but I know he was a John Woo disciple. Says all that needs to be said. Huge steaming POS.

Grebburn's are free. I will even pick up at the airport.

I just don't like it when people keep wrongly predicting what will happen, or if they point out obvious character traits.

ie. Watching The Devil's Advocate, when the devil appears: "Oh. I don't like him."

I had friends like this, but then realized they were assholes, so they are not friends anymore.

I don't mind watching movies by myself......

And The Big Hit is a masterpiece! Schindlers List.... Spartacus.... Citizen Kane..... all crumble at the might and unrecognized genius that is TBH.:D

Yup. I feel the pain. A few of my friends (all but 2 in fact) laughed at the Exorcist, Godfather, Psycho, ect ect ect. They hate anything that doesn't have senseless killing and horribly unfunny potty/slapstick humour. Dear shit! I hate watching movies with them. I like them, but they're for the most part a pain in the ass when watching movies.

I only go to movies with friends who have known me long enough to know that i hate it when people talk during films. Though i'm cool with a little goofing around if i seen the film before, or if it is terrible and the only way to have a good time is to make fart noises... i hate it when it comes down to that :( though it is a rare experience.

BubbaStrangelove, i agree 100% about people who point out obvious character traits, it is more annoying than anything~!

Though it is better than watching a film with my sister who threatens to brake the vcr if i don't tell her the end while were in the middle of the film~

My friends can't seem to sit fucking still for a movie of any sort. When it starts rolling, THEN it's time to take the dog out, start some popcorn, call around different pizza places for specials, or go into another room just to come back forgetting what they went in there for.

A friend of mine debated that all zombie movies were stupid, senseless and retarded. I debated back with a movie that I guaranteed would break his stereotypical thoughts, and he agreed to the challenge.

So I brings in Dawn of the Dead.

He does most of the above things, and above all, receives a phone call from some other dipshit friend and talks to him for the last half hour of the film, not paying a lick of fucking attention, and then at the end tells me "See I told you they were stupid. I didn't like it at all."

Then perhaps you should sit the fuck down and watch the movie, retard! Go watch the god damned goofy movie if you can't sit still for one god damn movie. Like, love, or hate it I don't care, but knock that shit off if your going to be spouting bullshit after the movie's over. If you watched and paid attention then I wouldn't have to answer any of your bullshit questions after the movie is over.

Sometimes their cool. But asking questions in Bonnie and Clyde, The Godfather and friday the 13th part II doesn't cut it! The movies are so gaddamned straight forward it's nopt even funny. I mean Bonnie and Clyde, which I love to death is not 2001 a fucking space odyssey! It has a simplistic plot it plays to the max! Bonnie and clyde is a perfect character driven drama.

This is what one of my friends does to completely DESTROY my movie watching pleasure:

Let's say that i'm watching The Matrix with him and when Morpheus jumps across the 2 buildings, he just HAS to say this:
" oh yeah right, like he could ever do that. Dont you agree. hey. DONT YOU AGREE???" I prefer NOT to answer him because when i do, he starts over again. I mean, i love my friends to death and i wouldn't change him at all. BUT THIS MAKES ME WANT TO CUT HIS BALLS OFF, FOR FUCK'S SAKE HE DOES THIS EVEN IN THE MOVIE THEATRE:mad:
