View Full Version : Teen generation movies, a big rant.

I'm really starting to get sick of Hollywood making all of these "teen oriented" movies like Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Granted, they are the only movies that suit their tastes these days, but they can cut down on them. I am teenager, yes, but I don't like those movies. When did Hollywood start to hit the sinking point, anyway? From Justin To Kelly, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, they all look like pure shit to me. Are teens the only thing Hollywood cares about these days? I may be overreacting, but here's my message to Hollywood: make more movies to other audiences, such as the older group. They can still make teen movies, but I think they should make a lot less of them. That way, all of the movies coming out would be balanced for every different age group.

you might not like them, but others do. and personally, i dont find it all that hard to find non-teen movies to watch either. hell,. i do like the odd teen generation movie, but saying that, its not exactly much of a chore to find something else.
i think you may be overreacting ;)

Overreacting or not, he has the right to a bit of ranting..right? :)
There does seem to be a whole plethora of movies now specifically targeted to the "teen crowd". But one must understand, those kinds of movies makes a whole shit load of money to the studios and everybody involved so it's a great business strategy. On the other hand, this kind of things sends the wrong message to studio executives who will take this and will greenlight even more shitty teen movies because it worked in the past.

I don't think the problem is that they're making teen movies, but that they aren't making any good teen movies. Every teen movie that's out now (especially the comedies) seem more concerned with the way actors look than with their talent. They also seem to just be trying to get by with gross-out comedy so no one will realize how much the movies suck.
I think they are underestimating the average intelligence of the normal teenager. I'm sixteen, and I, along with many of my friends, like many really good older movies.
If they're going to make teen movies, they should try for quality over quantity. Let's see some more teen movies like Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Animal House.

I wouldn't consider "2 Fast 2 Furious" an assault on teenagers at all. They made it, because the original did well of course, but also because teens and older folks liked it, and demand a sequel (especially since it had a way open ending for a sequel) but that is not to say that you should bash it. For all we know, it could be a good sequel, and heck, it has a good dircector (John Singleton) behind it, who's had a good track record with his movies.
So, "2 Fast 2 Furious," is hardly an example for this rant. "Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle" on the other hand...
I understand, Tom. This kind of shit annoys me. Hollywood will keep dropping these turds as long as people are willing to pay for theater tickets. I just don't understand the appeal of these movies. Take 2 Fast 2 Furious, what a load of horse shit! Oooooh cars going really really FAST and EXPLOSIONS! Holy shit! And this Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, it's not even worth a masturbation session. Cheesy fucking pieces of derivative shit adding to the decay of society.

I'm excited, at least a little, for every film you listed - I'm 18. Alot of my friends are also anticipating these films, as well. Why? Because, they're entertaining. People like to be entertained; teenagers, probably, moreso than others. There are plenty of "good" movies out there to go watch. If you don't like the trend Hollywood seems to be making, (read: entertaining films, for people who don't post at movie message boards) than don't go see the films, don't rent them, and don't worry about them. Ignore, and watch the types of films that interest you, instead.

I 'm actually more bugged by the fact that alot of TV shows that are put into production are almost automatically filtered through the "Teen element" scenario.
Look at X-Men: Evolution. It's the X-Men as teens. Yes I know cartoons are for mostly kids and teengers, but I grew up with both X-Men cartoons, the one from the 80's and the one from the mid 90's. Neither felt that the only way to get kids to watch was to make the X-Men their age. The shows still were watched by kids even though the characters were much older then them.
I'm bored with this kind of thinking and I'm pissed that a lot of ideas and scenarios need to be "dumbed down" so the "kids" can get it. We've dumbed down enough things in this country so that younger people can get'em, and look where they are. Let's try not to pander to them so strongly, let'em work for some thought. I'm sure some of the younger schmoes here have enjoyed watching complicated films and having to think and work to understand and empathize with characters whose lives and and situations are not so easily like their own.
Fun isn't it?

I like all kinds of movies but especially teen movies. I really enjoyed The Skulls and thought that it was unfair of the critics to poop all over it. I can't wait for the arrival of 2Fast2Furious as the first one was really great. The story was a bit complicated in places - I mean, I didn't get if he was in love with that girl or if he was just using her to get closer to that gang of cool racers, but the rest was fabulous! Roll on the next crop of bright young things...!
Oh, and if anyone hears of a sequel to Scooby-Doo I would love it if you could let me know.

You rock, RM.
I just ignore all of them. There hasn't been a movie released this year that has brought me to the theater. That's right, not one. I haven't gone to the movies since White Oleander last year. Not The Matrix, not X-Men...nothing. The first movie I will probably see this year will be T-3. Unless I decide to have some fun with The Italian Job.
If these movies piss you off, ignore them. I can't get pissed at how bad movies are if I don't go see them. It's a small boycott, but they're not getting my $10 for the shit they're putting out now.

Dude, Matrix Reloaded and X2 are pretty good movies that have garnered pretty good reviews, I don't know why you're avoiding them. Maybe if you actually gave them a chance you might enjoy it.

I saw the first Matrix, that was enough. Ditto with X-Men. I'm sure I'll see something this year that's quality. Just not yet.

Can't pass on THE ITALIAN JOB, Greb...Charlize is in it. :)
Me and teen movies...well, I like the ones that try to be a bit more mature and a bit more original than the usual studio calibrated crap. The standardized products I just ignore or watch on TV at 10pm one evening while munching on a day-old sausage. :)
