View Full Version : Oral Hygeine on Film...a Teeny-Weeny Rant...

This is my rant. How come...in movies...when a character is brushing their teeth, it appears, that they're not using toothpaste? I mean, maybe I'm the only one who actually uses toothpaste, I dunno. But I do know that it's hard to talk while brushing your teeth, and using toothpaste. And, it's hard for me to brush without getting some of that toothpaste foam around my mouth.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just a messy tooth-brusher. But I dunno.

That's too hilarious, Movie-Maniac. Come to think of it, I do ponder those very same questions whenever somebody brushes their teeth onscreen. You see no toothpaste being put on and they never rinse their mouth and spit thoroughly with water. I mean what's up with that? Do they have some sort of movie magic teeth brushing technique? Because I want to know! :p

You know, I also never see people in movies flossing. Must everyone neglect their precious gums?

Yeah, like that show, 24. I mean, I never seen Jack Bauer go to the bathroom ONCE in the run of that day. Now that is just Kra-Zay!

you know what movie scene REALLY bugged me?
Remember Leaving Las Vegas when Shue is going to the bathroom and she takes like TWO measely pieces of toilet paper and wipes herself!
WTF!
Hell I overuse, because as Confuscious says: There is no such thing as TOO much toilet paper.;)

He also told me that man who runs behind car gets exhausted, while man who runs in front of car get tired.
Man who stands on toilet is high on pot.
And one more: baseball wrong, man with four balls can't walk.

Most annoying (involving toothpaste and skipping right over the toilet paper topic because I don't even want to think what would happen if I wiped my ass with only two pieces of toilet paper.... ) thing about people brushing their teeth in the movies is the lack of the RINSE AND SPIT!!!!!!! Can anyone say?? EWWW! Yuck, blech???
Who the fuck wants to not only swallow like, a whole shitload of foamy toothpaste, but toothpaste mixed with all of that spit and tartar and plaque and shit? I have to rinse my mouth like five times to get all the toothpaste out of it and to leave my mouth feeling clean. I can't just swallow the shit and go to bed, yuck yuck yuck! (Of course it's not nearly as yuck as the thought of me wiping my ass with only two pieces of toilet paper... now that image has forever been imbedded into my brain!)

You guys are ALL STUPID!
Don't you know that they mean to put the toothpaste in the actors' mouths in post-production digitally?! Then they forget to budget for it and decide to leave the toothpaste out of the movie, hoping no one would notice. Then they edit out the part where they rinse their mouths with the digital water that isn't there, because that would look just too dumb!
(I am kidding about the stupid bit. I love each of you with all my heart!)

The only movie I can think of where someone brushes is in PULP FICTION, and well....
ADAPTATION, but they cut away before she would spit.
electriclite, I imagine, must need to plunge the toilet very often.
It's not Confuscious, but like the title of the movie goes: LIFE IS CHEAP....BUT TOILET PAPER IS EXPENSIVE

Just my point. I never see toothpaste in her mouth. It's like she's going over her teeth with a wet toothbrush.

One film that sticks in mind is Pretty Woman, in which Julia Robert's actually flosses.
Remember Bring it On and the tooth paste war between Torrence and Cliff. There's another example of oral hygeine.
But I do remember films with no tooth paste. lol

As far as brushing teeth is concerned with movies, filmmakers usually cut to the scene just as the character is already brushing, so you can assume that the mouthwashing and other bathroom stuff of it is meant to be offscreen...Of course it is another thing when it doesn't look like the character haas toothpaste in their mouth, doesn't have any foam, doesn't rinse, and only uses two pieces of toilet paper!

Speaking of breath do you ever notice in movies that people will kiss any kind of stink mouth? Like you watch a movie and two people wake up in each other's arms and then they decide to fuck and like totally french kiss each other? Yeah ok your breath stinks but I am so into you that I do not care so lets swap plaque. Yeah right like that really happens.
Also Ive seen movies where chicks are at a party and puke and not a few minutes later they are doing the toungue tango and there was no way possible that they cleaned their mouth for that kind of action.:p

I wholeheartedly agree. Brushing your teeth with a mouthful of paste must be up there with applying deodorant waking up with a face devoid of perfect makeup when it comes to movie no-nos. I admit, it's not the most attractive image in the world - someone bent over a sink, foaming at the mouth, slackjawed to perfection - but it happens.
Another gripe about teeth in movies - no matter what time the film may be set, whether it be Sadean France or 17th century England, practically EVERYONE has sparkling pearlies. Yes, I'm sure. They may throw their bodily waste out of their bedroom windows, but they sure do take care of their teeth!
Which leads me onto my Heather Graham in From Hell rant. She had perfectly clear skin, clean, glossy hair, could read and write...and this woman was a prostitute?
Pull the other one.

WHAT ABOUT BOB?!
Dr. Marvin brushes his teeth using his finger, because Bob took his toothbrush. He uses really foamy toothpaste and even SPITS! Cant get much better than that really, unless you use a toothbrush, but like I said Bob used it.

SPEAKING OF TEETH
How come in every fucking period piece movie, or a movie set back hundreds of years ago everyone has pearly fucking white teeth? Take the Scorpion King forexample The Rock has pearly whites. What the hell? I mean, back in the day did they even have toothpaste?

Why is it in movies, when people use the bathroom, they don't flush or wash their hands.
Oh wait! That's in real life too. And I know half the people on this forum don't flush or wash. Get some manners... jeez!
