People always say "chick flicks" suck and are unoriginal. But it seems the two big sleeper hits this summer were "Legally Blonde" and "The Princess Diaries". I bet in 2002/2003 we will see a big boom in films aimed at 1-30 year old females. Movies like "Sweet Home Alabama","Carolina", and "Enchanted" have already been greenlighted already.

Mike, you are such a cheat. You posted your predictions today after 2pm, which closely matches the early estimates on this site: http://www.atnzone.com/Boxoffice/friday.html

Predictions should be made no later than Friday. Predictions made on Saturdays, especially after noon, are highly suspicious because sites like Showbizdata.com post the Friday figures as early as noon Saturday.

Beware, Mike. I'm keeping a close eye on you.

Mike, I apologize. I just realized that your guesses are based on the Friday figures you posted. Although they closely match the site's early estimates, I may have rushed ro such a harsh conclusion. Again, my sincerest apologies. But I'm still keeping an eye on you.

The box office proves what most of us thought: this week's new releases are pretty much stinkers. Next weekend will probably have a big boost in box office. Every demographic almost has a film to choose from.

I'm glad to see "The Others" is performing better than "Captain Corelli's Mandolin." Well made, creepy, crawl under your skin type ghost stories with a touch of Hitchcock are hard to come by, but Kidman and Amenabar delivered.

So many people said that Kidman was riding Cruise's coattails. It's great that she's given two such great performances in "Moulin Rouge" and now "The Others." She's really underrated as an actress in my opinion.
