I know the dawn of the dead dvd is coming out soon. i had just recently read that it was going to be 2-disc. however, a few months back, i read that it was going to be a 3-disc set. which one is it, 2 or 3? and will it be unrated?

It's gonna be a three disc edition. And as for unrated I know that one will be Romero's full uncut version, one will be Argento's version and the other one I don't know.
I'm kind of sketchy about this because, although they give you three cuts of the film, eventually one will be your favorite, rendering the other two worthless.
For instance, I have both the Theatrical and Director's cuts of Army of Darkness, but I like the theatrical cut better, so the other one is pointless.
They oughta release the discs individually for the more casual fans.

It has been delayed at least two years now. It was first scheduled to come out in Fall 2002 and now it's coming in Spring 2004.
It'll feature the first cut that they showed in Cannes that runs almost 2,5 hours. Then the theatrical cut that is the most famous and the Argento cut that was distributed in Italy and Europe.
I can't wait for this one.

I have a pretty crude copy. Uncut but full-frame.
This new version sounds cool

The movie was shot in full-frame, so that wouldn't be a problem.

So will the re-release be full-frame as well? That would explain why it didnt look distorted.

I have the 2-disc version of Dawn, which contains the 141 minute cut of the movie (which is in widescreen), and the shorter, gorier, Argento European cut (which is in fullscreen!).
For further info on the status of the Anchor Bay Dawn 3-disc DVD (and some of their other upcoming horror titles), check out this thread..........
