Even though this isn't a horror movie parse' it is actually quite the disturbing film gem. With the great direction thanks to Harmony Korine (writer of kids) he makes some of the wierdest things disturbing..
Possible Spoilers
Ever think a kid wieght lifting spoons with madonna's "Like a Prayor" playing could be creepy? Well it is.
And did you ever think a scene with a couple of drunken rednecks beating up a chair could be sooo utterly amusing? Well it is.
This movie is the sheat and I think it needs to be seen by more people... In the words of my Honors English teacher Mr. Johnson.
"Hey Tony so I got the independent film channel this weekend... Ever see a movie called 'Gummo? *Shakes his head* God what a disturbing movie, I couldn't stop watching that horrible thing."
Oh and one question about this movie... Are any of these people actors in this movie? Because besides Chloë Sevigny none of them look familier at all...In fact some of them remind me of my neighbors... ugh... Creepy.

i love GUMMO! i saw it on showcase last year and laughed. i loved the retarded girl who thought a doll was her baby she kept saying "its my baby" then she shaved off her eyebrows. HOT
or the guy who hits on the 3 girls with 80s hair in his car. and the little ones screams at him "idiot" because that is the most offensive word she knows. i laugh everytime

Well.......yes and no.
None of the "characters" are real people. But they`re also not really 'actors'.
The director (Harmony Korine) went to fast food places, etc., and just asked people if they wanted to play a part in his movie.
So I guess they must`ve had some sort of script beforehand.
But they`re also not actors...
It`s like a veritable Pandora`s Box
But anyways, I love this movie.
It`s like watching someone else`s nightmares.
In terms of disturbing, atmospheric films, "Gummo" ranks right up there with David Lynch`s "Eraserhead".
P.S. - COME ON ARROW!! Don`t be a wuss! REVIEW IT!
That`s right, I`m drunk and I`m CHALLENGING you to review "Gummo"!
I`d love to hear your thoughts on it!

I thought Kids was much more cohesive and disturbing, with a real message behind it, a tale of warning if you will about our youth today and the dangers out there they face.
Gummo was slightly disappointing to me. Yes, I understood the premise and the fact that this movie was supposed to be "out there", but while I did laugh out loud at a few scenes, and recoiled at a few of them, in the end I wouldn't watch it again.
**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
I will have to say, that scene with the girls riding in the perverted old man's car is HYSTERICAL!!!! The little one just cracks me up yelling at him. The thing that killed me was once they started screaming at him and punching him in the car, he just keeps on trying to raise the little one's skirt/dress and he keeps saying "Oh common, just let me see a little." or something like that.
I was dying at that scene!

"Kids" never seemed disturbing to me because the characters were obviously actors with scripted dialogue IMO.
Plus, they just didn`t seem realistic to me.
P.S. - I think the older albino sister is kinda cute (in a weird way)!

I kinda dont think this movie can be compared to Kids.
Also, I dont think it has a real message. It's like a slice of life. Like a documentary. Sick to the core, but only because it resembles real life so much.
oh yeah, I liked it.

Me neither, they`re totally different animals if you ask me.

Yep, exactamundo, it`s supposed to look like a day in the life of these folks. It doesn`t have a message, and doesn`t need one IMO.

Gummo rules!!
+++++Spoilers+++++
I love the redneck chair wrestling.
The patrick swayze lovin albino...it's hilarious her gettin down to that music and how she likes guys with blond hair, brown, or black hair and doesn't matter about eye color.
I couldn't believe that the black haired girl with the babydoll and Krokus t-shirt shaved her eyebrows off.
I love when Solomon drops his chocolate bar in his bathwater and eats it.
I heard the kid who played Tummuler, Nick Sutton, was on the Sally Jesse show and Harmony saw him and wanted him for the role in Gummo.

Yes that`s true! I actually forgot about that until you mentioned it! The DVD has a long interview with Korine (the ONLY extra, unfortunatly) and he talks about how he picked-out the various people.

Cool, I still haven't got Gummo on DVD. I have it on tape, but I really want it on DVD. It's quite a pricey flick.

My brothers girlfriend stole this movie from a video store and gave it to him. I saw the movie many times when we had the tape and now that I know theres a dvd out, I must get it! I loved that movie, cause i'm one sick bastard (and my place in Clarksburg WV isn't that different heh) But the best thing about this movie is how surreal it is. The characters just seemed to get to me in that good way I dunno. Its great regardless gummo gets an 9.5 outta 10 for me
