Just saw it again...fuckin' hilarious...
I think you'll all enjoy the Q&A session that I had with Kevin Smith last week (it will be up by Monday). It's "in tune" with many of the themes in the movie...hehehe... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
BTW, if you're wondering where Alanis Morissette is in the new movie, WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE CREDITS...she shows up...

The best and funniest movie I've seen all year. Hand down!!!! I thought I was going to fucking piss my pants when Mark Hamill first appeared and the movie stops and say "Hey Kids! It's Mark Hamill" and then it flashes applause on the screen. I almost died of laughter. This is a movie you need to see in a packed theater, everyone I seen it with was going nuts. I must say that Jay Mewes is a fucking god, he needs his own show on HBO or something. If you are a fan of Kevin Smoth's moves, this is like throwing them all together in a blender, it's got all the characters from his previous films and even some new ones. Man I'm am seeing this thing several more times. Absolutely hilarious!!!!! 9.5/10

OK, here's my review (with **Spoilers**). Oh, and I'll be catching this next week as well.
Snooch to the nooch fellas! Well, all praise Kevin Smith, for he has made the nugga noochie comic anarchy masterpiece of the year with his fifth and- *sniff*- final opus featuring the New Jersey characters of his previous films- "Clerks" (which was turned into a short-lived animated TV series last year), "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," and "Dogma." The focus here is on the two characters common to all of his films- stoner dipshit Jay (Jason Mewes) and his hetrosexual life partner in slackerdom, Silent Bob (portrayed by Smith himself). In their latest exploits, the two are on their way to Hollywood when they learn that Miramax is making a movie based on a comic
book- Bluntman and Chronic- inspired by them; after being introduced to the world of 'Net movie Talk Back, they vow to stop the film from being made. There's more, but that's all you really need to know about the film in detail.
Now, you remember the "film geeks" I wrote about a couple of months back? The ones whom use potty-mouth profanity as if they're auditioning for a fucking Tarantino or fucking Scorsese picture? Well, Smith gives them a collective kick in the nuts with this film, easily his most entertaining, if not his best (that's still 1997's "Chasing Amy"). At first it starts innocently enough, by merely quoting these dumbasses so Jay and Silent Bob- and the audience- get a feel for what kind of people are out there on the
'Net; it eventually becomes a full-fledged ass kicking by film's end, which not only had this geek laughing his fucking ass off, but had the audience cracking up too. Remind me never to speak ill of Kevin Smith in this sort of manner on the 'Net; I may be in for a bitch-slapping of epic preportions by this modern master of profanity as poetry and the definitive vision of the world of Gen-X slackers.
As it is reportedly the final film in Smith's New Jersey Series, a viewer can expect cameos up the ass; the trick is getting all of them. To help you understand them, here's a guide. The first appearance of Ben Affleck, the second of Jason Lee, and the first of Joey Lauren Adams (at the end)
hark back to "Amy"; Shannon Dougherty's goes to "Mallrats"; Dante, Randall, and the Quik-Stop at the beginning are from "Clerks"; Affleck, Matt Damon, and Gus Van Sant- shooting "Good Will Hunting 2" (an inspired and hilarious scene)- and Wes Craven shooting another "Scream" flick are here because Miramax-Dimension Films released those films (also, Damon and Affleck were
in "Dogma"). The rest (including show-stoppers by George Carlin, Jon Stewart,
Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill) I'll let you figure out. In his previous films, Smith has had a "Star Wars" infactuation- his riff on the Death Star in "Return of the Jedi" from "Clerks" is fucking priceless- that plays hilariously well here and in ways I wouldn't dare reveal; suffice to say, you'll never look at "The Phantom Menace"- or that double-edged light saber of Darth Maul's- the same way again. He also manages to include the Scooby Gang (and kudos to Smith for fitting Marc Blucas- "Buffy's" ex-boyfriend- into the fun) and a brilliant riff on/homage to "Planet of the Apes"- the 1968 version, not the Tim Burton version- into his 97-minute laugh-a-thon.
Now for the performances. Well, what can I say? Unlike his earlier films, "Jay and Silent Bob" doesn't exactly provide nuanced characters or depth- it's all about comic riffs, cameos, Talk Back Assholes, and a fucking good time at the theater. Start with Chris Rock, who's essentially playing himself (that is, his comedian self) as the director of Bluntman and Chronic, who's
mighty pissed off that he's the only black man in sight in the production. His racial tirade is similar to the diversionary tactic used by Chris Tucker in "Rush Hour 2," and admittedly begins to grate a bit (it might have been funnier to make the director an "artist"- think Scorsese or Coppola- slumming as a hired hand, but still trying to make it art); still, he makes it funny
for a while at least. Will Ferrell is dumb fun as a Wildlife officer on the duo's trail when they steal a monkey from a testing lab (don't ask, just watch).
And then there are the women in the film- a quartet of hot, sexy, gorgeous babes who steal diamonds and such, and whom pick up our slackass heroes on their trip West. On behalf of all malekind, my thanks to Smith
for not only his filming of these women, but his costume choices as well. Gratuitous exploitation? Shit yeah. Am I caring much? Hell no; political correctness has no place in a film like this. First off is Shannon Elizabeth, the babe-royale of such films as the "American Pies," "Scary Movie," and
"Tomcats" as Justice, the glasses-wearing chick with a conscience of the group and the reason Jay- upon their first meeting- is in need of a make-shift cod piece while in a Mooby's fast food restraunt. Next you have Ali Larter (best known for her whipped-cream bikini in "Varsity Blues") and Jennifer
Schwalbach Smith (a newcomer to films) as Chrissy and Missy- they're hot, they're in charge, and they look great in leather. Finally, there's Eliza Dushku, and it's here I must default to Harry "Ain't It Cool News" Knowles and simply say- Eliza Dushku is sex! She played rebel slayer Faith on "Buffy,"
and reluctant cheerleader Missy in "Bring it On"; here, she plays Sissy, the leader of this voluptuous group of thieves. There's no great acting challenge for Dushku here- it's simply a riff on her "Buffy" character with
a little of a Tarantino edge to her. What does she do? Simple; she puts the "lust" in "lust-bunny"- a phrase she coined on "Buffy" at one point. And how? Just by being. She's the kind of character who can pull a gun on a movie set; get in a glorious cat fight with Elizabeth's Justice; push
up her breasts before pulling a gymnastics act through high security laser beams; pose as if in a glamour shoot after crossing the beams; and walk around outside in lingerie like it's nobody's business. Here, Eliza oozes unchecked, unbridaled sex appeal from every pore on her body- much like she did as Faith- to the point where I wish he would give the quartet their own movie. God bless Kevin Smith.
Last but not least, there's Jay and Silent Bob themselves. Smith presents himself and Mewes with no challenges here- they are simply required to inhabit the roles they've made so memorable to a legion of fans. The difference is...they're in the spotlight, and while the idea of these two carrying
a film- especially when one is practically a mute character- seems implausible, they make it work. The logic behind Jay's outlook on life is royally fucked up, and he's a no-holds-barred horndog when it comes to the ladies, but he and his hetro life partner Silent Bob are endearing because they're true to themselves, and even if they're not the greatest role models, they were never supposed to be in the first place. Nobody in Kevin Smith's films was- the exception possibly being the characters in "Chasing Amy". Jay and Silent Bob are just fun; Smith knows it, and his fuckingly fun film knows it. Beyond that, what more is there to say? You want high brow laughs? Well, you'll
have to go to the videostore. You want comedy with sex, drugs, rock & roll and some fucking balls, check out "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"- it's rebel farce with laughs to match.
Brian's grade for the snoocherific "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (2001)- A
For the rest of Smith's View Askewniverse:
"Clerks" (1994)- B
"Mallrats" (1995)- D
"Chasing Amy" (1997)- A+
"Dogma" (1999)- A-
"Clerks- The Animated Series Uncensored" (2000)- A-
(And for point of reference to stuff above, I occasionally write movie reviews and essays of my own and send them via email to friends and family. Earlier this summer I did a little tirade about "film geeks," especially the sort than Kevin Smith targets in the film.)

A very dissapointing film! Kevin Smith through all his career with funny and witty films like the amazing "Chasing Amy". This movie just was not that funny. If you think the word "f*ck" and a bunch of fart jokes you'll love this. But if you want any wit, smart lines, good acting, funny gags, and a fun storyline you will hate this. Jason Mewes over does it. He used to be funny. They get untalented actors like Mark Hammil,Sean William Scott, etc. which don't provide any laughs. A stupid film that deserves to be destroyed before hitting theatres. Thank god Kevin Smith is quitting the View Askew movies he has lost his touch.

While I will tell you that this is probably the least intelligent of all of Kevin Smith's movies, excepting maybe Mallrats, this film is very funny and should provide for a hilariously fun movie-going experiencing(unless you can be offended by vulgarity, gay jokes, etc.). Sure, there is nothing really deep going on, it is still fun if you enjoy the Jay and Silent Bob characters. And yes, this movie is the first real 'sequel' of the View Askew series. Of the five, this movie is probably the lowest on the cycle, but is still a very good movie(a testament to how amazing Smith really is).
My Ratings of the View Askew series:
Clerks(1993): 10/10
Mallrats(1995): 8.5/10
Chasing Amy(1997): 9/10
Dogma(1999): 9.5/10
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: 8/10
The Series as a Whole: 9/10, or 90%

If you dont remeber seeing clerks or any one of the movies...including good will hunting , dont watch this movie...there were tons of things i didnt get and i felt that i was missing out which was the main reason this movie wasnt that great. ALSO will ferrel was absaloutly hilarious. I cried whenever he went onscreen. The beautiful babies were gorgeous as ever. the previews gave away a bit too much but other than that its pretty good.
-_SPOILER---
the jason biggs and vanderbeek thingie was absaloutly the greatest part of the movie...
