View Full Version : help: horror-related pet name needed

Gretchen_Ross

ever hear that saying "can't see the forest through the trees"? well, i'm having that problem right now.

see, my family's dog of 11 years died 2 years ago (lymphoma), and we are going to be getting a new dog soon. our previous dog was a maltese (but no long silky hair with bows for this boy - he was a punk with attitude and spiky hair all the way) and we're not sure what breed we'll be getting but it definitely won't be anything bigger than a bulldog (and it'll be a boy).

so i'm trying to come up with a bank of movie-related dog names that i can pick from after we get the dog, and i'm drawing a complete blank. i'm sitting here staring at my movie collection and nothing's happening. i know i don't wanna go for anything obvious like "freddy," "jason," michael," etc. but i just can't come up with anything good. i've come up with a few movie-related ones, only 1 horror related one - "pochi" which was the dog in "the happiness of the katakuris." any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

btw, if you have any non-horror-related pet names in mind, post themhere (http://joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54685).

Kessler after the character in an American Werewolf in London

or you can always call him Toxie :)

Gretchen_Ross

hey i like kessler! good movie and the name has a nice ring to it. toxie would be a fitting name for a big, dumb, good-natured bulldog.

what was that dog's name in The Lost Boys? That could work.

Um...hmm... The only dog name that is coming to mind is Trippet from Jaws, lol. Besides the obvious Cujo of course.

Heed the warning above. Seriously, the extent of my limitless ability of creative genius is never quenched, and a single example of my prowess in this field will send ripples of shock for a good thousand-mile radius.

Never before has a name been so finely honed, tuned to fit the precise personality as well as give off a nostalgic aura of mystery that many find very fitting.

Never before has a single word inspired millions, making the masses reach and yearn for a better understanding of their very language, for proof of how such a name could be created. How such a mind could concoct such an ingenius method of labels, and such a solid manner of technique.

. . . 'The dog'.
Please, please, hold your applause.
Seriously, though, why not something like director-type? Kubrick would be a cool name for a dog.

Seeing as how you (alias of gretchen_ross) seem to know a bit about Donnie Darko, that always has some good names.
Darko, Serita, Frank (brr), uh . . . or you could go with some inatimate objects. 'Tree', 'dirt', 'car', 'bunny-suit', 'sign' . . . yes, yes, I'll hold off on the creativity--I don't have these things copyrighted, after all.

For some reason everything suggested has a bit too much of an "epic" feel for a . . . dog . . . not that there is anything wrong with being a dog, but . . . I don't know, nothing fits.

Really, the only horror type name for a pup has got to be "cujo". But maybe add a twist . . . like a 'k', or something (Kujo--that's originality). What ever happened to 'normal' names? What not name it (whoops, I mean 'the dog') like a human? You know--normal. You don't want to scar the dog for life with a name like 'pinhead', 'sineater', or 'malevolence' .

sherimoon
06-06-2003, 03:42 PM
you could give him a NOES name:

Glenn
Grady
Jesse
Kreuger
Kincaid
Spencer
Chase
Dylan

OR

Loomis
Perkins
Vorhees
Damien

How about Torgo if he has big knees and is very lovesick in nature or how about Thor from Bad Moon (he could help you fight werewolves) or maybe Jed which was the real name of the norweigan dog from The Thing.

What about Pennywise, as in Pennywise the clown from It? Or Ripley, after Ripley from the Alien movies? I know, I know, she was female, but it works both ways. Then again, you could always name him Pumpkinhead, heehee.

hardy-har. i see my affinity for cheap jokes has rubbed off on you.

countchocula - chud's a great name. i mean, explaining to people what it stands for would be fun all by itself.

I can see it now:

Random Stranger: "Cute dog, what's his name?"

Gretchen: "C.H.U.D."

Random Stranger: "C.H.U.D.? What's that stand for?"

Gretchen: "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers."

Random Stranger: "Uh-huh. Bye now!"

Come to think of it, that would be cool!:D

the time has arrived - we got the dog on sunday. he's a 9 week old french bulldog. over the course of the past few days, we've pruned the name list down and down. it finally came down to 3 names: servo, toxie, or tuttle. i like servo, but it doesn't sound right. and i love tuttle, but as much as i wanted to use it, it just doesn't fit his personality. so, we have christened him:

toxie (aka the toxic avenger)!!!

he's very boisterous but also good-hearted and smart. plus, he's a fart machine so he's always sending out little toxic clouds - the name just fits. thank you to all the schmoes who submitted ideas, and especially to bowieee 'cause he came up with the name toxie.

oh, btw, i may be able to take a picture of the little guy and post it here. i make no promises though as i have never used the digital camera before (aka don't hold your breath or you may pass out).

remember, that pic isn't of him, it's of his pops, but he does look like a young version of his old man. i'll try and get a pic of toxie up, but it may take me awhile.

you can most definitely make him an honorable schmoe, but i think he should learn to go to the bathroom outside first - you know, like all the other schmoes do. *teeheehee*

And I don't stand for ass smelling. I'm sorry to be vulgar, that's just the way I was raised, like it or not.

Seriously, quite a cute scrap of a little thing. Funny that he's (toxie is a he, or a she?) gained so much attention. Who'd have thought that a dog would be the center of attention on the horror board? Good change of pace though--instead of "how gross is this picture of someone vomitting blood while they are imapled and eaten alive", it is "look at this adorable puppy"

Aww, indeed.

Hey, just because we're horror fans doesn't mean we're heartless(although I did pick up the nickname Darkheart a few years back).

well, i think this thread is hanging on by a...well, thread because the dog (a he) has a horror movie related name. it's nice to see that people aren't flaming me for it, though. like Kaos said, i'm a horror fan but i have no problem baby-talking to a puppy either.

Hey Gretchen...

I've done this same thing in the past (naming pets after horror icons). In the mid-eighties I had a cat named Cujo. Yes, a cat.

Around '92 I got my brother to help me talk my mom into getting a Rottweiler. In keeping with our Stephen King naming tradition we decided to call the little (but soon to be humongous) fella "Misery." Needless to say it was the perfect name for him as he could be quite the large, stubborn, pain-in-the-ass. Unfortunately he died last summer... as all dogs eventually do. :(

We did get another Rottie, but since she was a girl I couldn't use the next Stephen King inspired name I had waiting. The name of the next male Rottweiler I get? Clovis.

Anyone know the S.K. movie that is from?

Good luck with the new pup Gretchen.
