do region-free dvd players have any kind of problems associated with them?
i mean, do they have trouble playing some dvds?
are they not as good (besides the fact that some dvd players will not play certain dvds) as other dvd players?
i know the idea is that they will play any and all DVD's but sometimes things dont work out as planned. What I'm asking is does anyone have a DVD that doesnt wanna work with their regionfree dvd player??
thanks

I wonder the same thing. However I think the Region Free DVD players are like Computer DVD players. Computer DVD players can play any DVD ever made. They automatically read PAL and NTSC formats and any regions. I think it works like that.

I've had a Multi-Regional player for almost 2 years now and I've came across no problems.

Some region free DVD players can experience problems with RCE ( Regional Code Enhancement) discs. You'd be better off with multi-region rather than region free, read about RCE here: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Articles/RegionalCodeEnhancement/RCE.asp

I've had 3 multi-region players. I sold one and kept 2. All are foreign. The best is my Daewoo 5800. It plays movies fine, is lightweight, breaks Macrovision, and was cheap (ebay!). But my other player (my Sampo) had some problems: it would "freeze" some movies.

just because a DVD player is region free does not mean you can play all discs, aswell as the RCE problem there's also the problem of television standards, you'd have to check that the format of the disc matches your TV (I'm guessing NTSC) although you can buy a convertor I think and a multiregion player bought on the UK side of the pond will be able to play NTSC discs and PAL discs on a PAL telly but you have to look for a player in the USA that will convert PAL to NTSC for you, they are out there but just not as common. Anyway its very unlikely that you'll want to play PAL encoded disks anyway since the US disks are always fucking out sooner and better!

i heard you can make a player regionfree by fiddling with the remote, but it never worked for me. guess i don't have the right player.

If you wanna know how to do hacks through your remote, check this site out: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php

Oh yes, try and get a player with an internal PAL/NTSC converter. My players have that and it's easier than getting an external converter. But I hardly use it.
