i want to get this off my chest. does it really take you all that long to use those two simple words, that i have used to entitle this rant?

you see i have a problem. i live in the UK. this means that a lot of the time, i am getting movies after the rest of the schmoes. now, thats not a big deal for me, i am a patient man. but, really, its becoming a daily thing for me to come across various revelations from movies that i havent seen and wont be able to see for quite a while. and to be honest, i have to wonder just why people arent putting their spoiler warnings up. it takes a matter of seconds to type and allows those schmoes who are trying to stay spoiler free to avoid it. hey, i mean, you can even change the colour of the spoilers so they cant be read unless highlighted.

all i ask is please please warn us of any spoilers. there is a growing Uk contingent on this board now, and we do get a large number of films later than the majority of schmoes. all i ask is that you all show a little care?

hope i am not being unreasonable here.and sorry for any offense caused.

the "blackened" spoilers works a charm on the horror boards.. plus., its mighty fun to do..

lol, if you get pissed at someone else's posts you can just swear at them and hide it....! No one'll ever see...

See, ya sonsofbitches? :D

oh, dammn.. I guess black doesn't work here..

well anyways, I've had WAYYY too many movies spoiled. Unless its a big ass twist I dont mind so much, cause I read wayy too much about a movie before seeing it anyways.. it is a pain in the ass, though..VERY unschmoelike, too..

How do you do that thing where the text doesn't appear until you highlight it?

Grebdron

Spoiler warning. Highlight to read.

Put ramble here like you have something to say

I think.

Just hit the quote button and you'll see how it's done.

Oops, off-topic.

I think if the background is silver, you use silver. If the background is white, you use white.

Thanks Greb, now get back on topic.

Explain this "on-topic" nonsense.

I don't get it.

Citizen Kane was already ruined for me before I saw it. Thanks to Jon Stewart, whom I have to kill. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter anymore...

but please...only you can prevent spoilers...

IT's the easiest thing in the world to put a spoiler warning.

For example:

Bruce Willis is a ghost in The Sixth Sense...

Will appear as...

Bruce Willis is a ghost in The Sixth Sense

It's easy and it stops people getting annoyed at you.

I find it ironic that in that entire post you do not have the words SPOILER WARNING dealing with Bruce Willis. You say its the easiest thing, and then you went ahead and didnt do it!!!! ARGH!!! Must not be that easy then!!!!

SPOILER WARNING FOR THE POST:

It was heavily ironic. Paterfamilias and Grebdron did something similair.

I realize that. However, Pater's has Spoiler Warning right before the spoiler, and Grebs post, well, he's Greb, so it doesnt matter. :D Yours however just has the spoiled part, with no Spoiler before it. KnowwhatImean?

I had The Sixth Sense completely ruined for me on the radio. I was listening to my fave morning show when they start talking about Sixth Sense. And without any spoiler warnings at all they gave away the ending! Then they said how surpriesed they were by it. And then gave away all the hints the director left that led to the ending! Then they had people call in and talk about how surprised they were! I know I should have just turned off the radio but it was like a train wreck I just couldn't move I was so shocked!

And Kaos if you ever read this thread you had Jason Goes To Hell ruined for you, didn't you?

Oh, yes, I remember it well. My friends knew I was a big horror fan and they had the opportunity to see JGTH: TFF on opening night(I had work or I'd have been there too). I got home just before the movie let out(it was a midnight showing), so my buddies stop over to tell me that I had to go see it, when one of my friends blurts out, *spolier warning, highlight to read* "Dude, at the end of the movie, Freddy's glove comes out, snatches Jason's mask, pulls it into the ground, and then he starts laughing evilly. It was SO cool!" I was homicidal at this point, as he'd just ruined an excellent suprise ending for me in ONE BLOODY SENTENCE!" Understand, when the movie first came out(way back in '93) an ending like that was something I'd never thought would happen. I didn't know that New Line had bought the rights off of Paramount, and had only thought how great that Sean Cunningham had returned to close out what he started 13 years ago. Anyway to paraphrase this entire thread,

BE CONSIDERATE AND PUT UP SPOLIER WARNINGS, NO MATTER HOW OLD THE MOVIE IS!

Thank you.

Actually a couple of my friends have never seen any of the Star Wars series. It just goes to show, no matter how long the movie has been out, or how popular it is, there's always someone who hasn't seen it yet.

I think the whole statute of limitations issue for spoilers is interesting. I don't think that you should have to worry about spoiler warnings for all movies.

Once a movie has been on video for a while, it becomes part of our general cultural knowledge base. I mean it is unreasonable to assume that if you haven't seen a movie that's like 10 years old that you are going to have an unspoled experience.

I mean, there is some responsibility to see a movie in a reasonable amount of time if you want to be completely surprised by it.

As far as timing, certainly while a movie is still in theaters, spoilers are a must, and on internatioal boards, such as this, it is important to remember that there are different release dates in different countries. So, i think, say a year after the video release, or something is reasonable.

However one of JoBlo's rules states: " B) DO NOT SPOIL movies for others (or make sure that you include a *SPOILERS WARNING* if you do)." It does not state a time limit on when spoliers warnings don't have to be included.

thats a very reasonable suggestion there. i quite like that idea personally. i think a year after video would seem like a pretty decent time limit.

well done pater. your not as senile as i thought ;):D

That's true. And I think it is better to err on the side of caution. It doesn't take much effort to put spoiler warnings, so I always put 'em if I have any doubt.

But when people get bent out of shape because some 15 year old movie has been spoiled for them, I don't have a lot of sympathy.

How many of you actually skip the spoiler warnings? Most films that are out now and I don't want to hear about I just don't check out the threads for (IE: A discussion on Final Destination 2 which I haven't seen).

I just figure there are more greedy-ites out there that would look at the spoiler rather than say "Woopsies! Gonna scroll past this, can't look at that one!"

And if you take the time to scroll past it... there's usually a slight chance of odds that you scroll right into another spoiler, isn't there? Seems almost like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, so I just refrain from clicking on certain threads.

IE: If for some reason the Dawn of the dead remake comes out and I can't go out immediately and see it, I'm not going to be surfing for other schmoes thoughts and reviews about the film, as well as they're favorite parts of the film until after I go see it.

I do the spoiler thing, but in some traits I only have sympathy for the ones that have to wait longer in other areas/countries to see the film.

There's always exceptions to everything though I guess... Though sometimes we walk into the spoilers ourselves and have no one else to blame. In the one thread in the horror forum titled "horror films that have sad/depressing endings" I clickity clicked, and now know 3 films that I've been waiting to see that will have a sad/disturbing ending. After finding out such information I turned on the stove and stuck my head inside and said goodbye to the cruel world.

Until I realized that it was an electric stove, and started cinging the hair on my eyebrows.

Whoa.
