Let me just say something about movies: They are the finest median of art there is. They encompass all we are capable of the produce a vivid and detailed lens on life to which no other form can as clearly capture. Film is a gift. Our ability to create it should never be taken for granted. And when a bunch of apathetic assholes have enough money to toss some shit at us with 0 emotion or thought, and have the nerve to call it a movie, and call themselves film makers, it truly does piss me off.
I don’t give a fucking shit what you take the Italian job for. Whatever, popcorn fun time no brainer summer fun bla bla bla FUCK THAT. I am so fucking sick of piss poor shitass cinema getting let off the hook cause it only aspires to a half assed level. And I am soooo fucking sick of people just swallowing this shit with a smile and calling it good fun entertainment. IT IS NOT. It is not good or fun. When a movie so thoroughly lacks any ability to make you feel ANYTHING or need to take risks, do something new, be something different, or go the distance in anyway it makes me sick. When scripts are written to systematically map out paper thin characters and their paper thin concerns it makes me sick. And when pathetic excuses for directors film a few cars rolling around and call it an action sequence, it truly does make me sick. K TWO THINGS number one: action feels faster, and more urgent when the camera is moving! TWO: shots should last long enough for you to catch and really suck the juices from what you’re seeing. The ability to hint at action is not DIRECTION. It’s a complete lack of ability PERIOD. What the fuck is with American audiences!? 5 minutes or so of a few cars going kinda fast to some catchy music and you’re entertained?! AHHHH! NEVER have I seen a movie that is so blatantly an exercise in two bit chop chop money making bullshit - IN the way things were set up and led into and concluded. So fucking horridly predictable, and flat. So God awfully basic and unfeeling. This is not a movie, it’s the product of a bunch of assholes in Hollywood who sat down and thought, yeah some people’d go to that. BAH!! I hate the Italian JOB. Hate it for how half assed and falsely existent it was. Hate it for failing to deliver ONE fucking thrill. Hate it for being poorly written and directed by people probably scratching their asses most of the way through creation. HATE IT. Fuck it. Destroy it. I don’t care if it was just some summer fun, there wasn’t one fucking thing I found fun about it. It just sucked. And I am SICK and TIRED of movies sucking and getting away with it.

I coundn't agree with you more. I think its crap that Hollywood studios dish out crap. Get a couple of untalented actors that are willing to show their boobs and a director who shouldn't even direct a TIDE commercial give them a budget of 20 million and call it great filmming! Hollywood preaches over and over that they want something novel, then they go and make a movie like the Italian Job that has such a simple plot and no meaning. Something that doesn't make you question anything, it's just good 'ol fun. Bullshit I'll go to Six Flags for fun. What really pisses me off about movies like The Italian Job is that they pass up on good scripts because some fat lazy ass studio producer "thinks" it'll sell.
BTW Having Mark Walberg starring didn't help either. What a dry actor. Go back to rapping Mark at least then I don't have to see the previews for your next failure at the movies. Out!

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS)
While I'll give you points for a good old fashioned fun-filled profanity-laced, rant I still couldnt disagree with you more... Fun summer popcorn movies are what makes the bucks, and that's why they keep crankin em out cuz people like me will continue to pay to see them... Does it make me a mindless moron? Perhaps, but at least I'll be a fuckin entertained mindless moron!
As for the movie you decided to take your feelings out on, besides Mark Wahlberg in it, I thought it was very good! Smart, funny at times, and a hot-ass chick in Charlize... Plus you cant deny Ed Norton's acting, cold/callous/calculating and just a mean jerk-off! Granted he may notve even wanted to be in this flick, but regardless, the man's a brilliant actor! This movie hardly had any violence, and still managed to keep my attention... WHY? Because it was how SMART the movie was, the ways in which they set their heists up, and completed them to perfection... The ways in which the good/bad guys would try to outsmart each other, tryin to be one step ahead... And while I thought the ending lacked a bit, because they didnt actually SHOW Norton's demise, it was an overall good movie, and one I will be purchasing, once out on video...
But hey! To each his own... I thought the Italian Job was great!

I agree with the points you make about the shit out in the cinema right now..
More good movies should get wider releases, but they do not..
Anyhow, I thought The Italian Job was great!

Quite obviously it doesn't take too much substance to entertain people. I'm not talking dr stranglove 2 here ok...but to be entertained, to me at least, isn't to look at a few bright colors and go ooh and ahh, it's to actually be somewhat intrigued and brought into something enough to care about what's happening thus bringing forth my entertainment.
Yes I get WHY movies like this are made. Yes I understand, but I still disagree with giving them any credit what so ever. And yes everyone has their own opinions, yes to each his own ect. I still fail to see how anything within this mess was mildly entertaining at best. Maybe we're so starved for quality entertainment, this bullshit has become...not so bad. And that scares me.
K remember the movie, THE MUMMY? ...When I think fun summer movies, that instantly comes to mind. It didn't take it's self too seriously, it was nicely shot, humorous, and it actually supplied the audience with some honest thrills. And it did all this with enthusiasm and a sense of pleasure.
K now remember xXx? Horrid, disgusting god awful picture. See you can have summer fun popcorn fun happy no brain fun popcorn fun movies without having to rip your brain out piss on it and kick it across the theatre. Without ODing on ritalin and being amused by a few bright colors. Movies can be just for fun without being so completely void of feeling or substance.
Anyway Im glad a few of you had a good time out at the movies with this one.....and by association you should NEVER have a bad time out at the movies if this one kept your interest. Hell I mean...why don't you play with some tin foil, I heard that's rather entertaining...... (just kidding mes amis)

They are definitely opinions, ninja. And you know the saying. They're like assholes...
The Mummy was one of the biggest P'sOS that I've ever seen, and I was entertained by TIJ.
Guess I'm a mindless drone.

This is why I hate the current climate of the hollywood remake gravy train no sole,no talent and most importantly of all no orignality.
The only soultion to the pain you feel after watching this is watch the original ITALIAN JOB it's one of my all time favourite films.
Better yet use your power as a film watcher and boycot the film by not watching it I know I'm not.

Ninja, I completely understand your disdain, but I can also understand "going easy" on a certain film if it only strives to be popcorn fun. I don't think that anyone involved in The Italian Job would attempt to pretend that it's anything more than hollow nonsense. Films of the "shape and color" variety need to exist to counterbalance the substance on the opposing end of the cinematic spectrum. You don't have to dig it, but without it, you wouldn't appreciate substance as much as you do. There's a time and place for fluff.

hmmm...yes yes... I suppose you can't like them all....that would get boring.
All I was really trying to say was that I hated this movie...eh that's my only real point, I retract everything else. Thanks for the comments

Fair enough. I haven't seen it myself. However, I feel like I've already seen it just from watching the TV spots alone.

Ninja, I couldn't have said it better myself. I applaud you for those comments. I don't ever want to settle for a mindless popcorn flick...ever. They don't appeal to me in the least bit and I will never support anything that looks like there was no real work put in.
I did initially have a slight interest in seeing The Italian Job only to check out Edward Norton, but I never got around to it and I'm glad I didn't.

Some brainless-fun summer popcorn flicks do appeal to me in different ways while others don't.
And I am soooo fucking sick of people just swallowing this shit with a smile and calling it good fun entertainment.
I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you on that point ninja555. I for one enjoy the good old popcorn movie, and some of them in my opinion are good fun entertainment. Others feel that way as well.

5 minutes or so of a few cars going kinda fast to some catchy music and you’re entertained?! AHHHH!
That's one thing I'd strongly agree with. What people think are "awesome chase scenes" are so laughable today... Gone In 60 Seconds, for instance. I mean, WTF? The final chase... was OK. Just OK. But the original extremely low budget original film's final chase was three times longer and MUCH better done. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!
The only recent chases I've thought were "good" was the Freeway chase in Reloaded and a couple of them in Ronin... The Fast and the Furious had a few competent chase scenes, but that's really all they were... Competent. They beat the fuck out of the Italian Job's though.
Other then the pretty bad action scenes, I found the Italian Job pretty entertaining though. 7/10.
ninja555
06-12-2003, 03:19 PM
Yes to comment all around I'm just finding the "action" in all of today's pictures VERY VERY lacking. I mean it only really hints at action. It's awful. All the fights are cut 40 times a second at super close range, all the car chases are shot from still positions, and the gun fights....what the fuck!? Shooting a gun is not cool or exciting, doing a one handed carthweel to grab a pistol and dive across a table firing is cool AND exciting. My point is there is no effort or thought put into the action. If cars just drive around, with no real battle mentaility, like there's no interaction between vehicles they're just driving fast when it should appear to a point as if the cars are fighting, it's BORING. There should be a certain level of intensity and conflict, there should be stunts and spins and unrealistic movements of all kinds. It SHOULD be unrealistic. Reloaded was AMAZING, Ronin was pretty solid, MI2 wasn't bad, hell I saw a fucking toyota camry commercial that was more amusing than the car chase in Italian job. The problem with 95% of American directors is that they have NO IDEA what the fuck they're doing in action scenes. No idea. They learn how to shoot dialogue, and maybe some short physical conflict. They don't know how to shoot, nor have any instinct for action. CHeck out a movie called THE KILLER, or any hong kong cinema, hell even some european cinema. Those guys actually value the meat of the action movie- THE ACTION It's self, and don't sidestep it. And I remove my hat for the wachowskis as well. I could not fucking believe I was actually watching cuts that lasted a watchable amount of time in the fights. I was amazed that almost every single car chase shot was in motion :O ! It was goood to see. And it's just sad it's not seen more often. And for this reason alone I say fuck hollywood and their whoring of cinema.

Cool car chases.......just how much acid were you on during your viewing?
Different twist.......OH right like when they uhh...took stuff from someone......very original
Yes edward norton....Yes he's good, very good. But not that fucking great.... I mean even he can over act, or sound off base, He's in a lot of my favorite movies but meh...he's still just norton. And chalize....yeah ya know I was wondering why there was a wet paper towel in so many scenes in this movie...then I realized ms theron was a cast member! DOI!
I found all of it's characters annoying, actually. I already said I knew it wasn't trying to be anything great. And it succeeded with honors. I really hated it so Ill bash it all I damn well please, thank you. And I don't want your list, you can place it within your poop hole.

Great list of actors........
Mark Whalberg ... Three Kings (10/10) ... Boogie Nights (10/10)
Edward Norton ... 25th Hour (10/10 ... #2 on my top 10 of 2002) ... Fight Club (9/10) ... American History X (10/10) ... Rounders (10/10 fav movie of 1998)
Charlize Theron ...http://www.charlizeonline.com/photos/nudes/sexy14.jpg
need i say more???
Donald Sutherland If you gotta ask, you don't deserv to know
Cool car chases....... I have never seen a helicopter chase an Austin mini down under a bridge and then play a game of cat and mouse before, and I thought it was really cool!
Different twist....... Oh like steeling the money from a theif that use to be your best friend, that stole the money from you?... its alot better than just stealing the money
AND YES Thats my opinion! So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!!!!!!!

Too bad that scene lasted about 30 seconds at the very longest.

I'm pretty sure it's been done before, at least very similarly, but I can't quite think of the movie I want to. Anyone?

Mark Wahlberg sucks. He sucks. He sucked as a rapper, and he sucks as an actor. You do enough things badly and you have a shot at sticking around.
Yea he was in two good movies. So are a lot of bad actors. I think you forgot about: The Big Hit, Planet of The Apes, The Truth about Charlie, Rock Star, The Perfect Storm, The curruptor....hmm yeah just about every other movie he's done.
Yes edward norton is good. I ALREADY MENTIONED THAT. Naming the great movies he's been in isn't going to make me think he's incapable of being less then gripping in a film.
Yes I get you like Chalize Theron...I get it. You've looked up pornography with her as Im gathering. Brava. She's nothing special in my opinion. SHe's not ugly but she's not striking or anything genuinely beautiful. But by all means continue to enjoy her.
And yes Sutherland is super-duper. There's a man by the name of deniro who's made a few lame ass career choices recently as well. U can have a great history and make bad choices. He didn't impress me in the fucking least in this movie. He- like Norton looked to be doing it for a pay check.
And like Jim covered, that helicopter deal was short and boring. And if you find a helicopter chasing a car to be original you desperately need to watch USA more often. Adding a bridge didn't knock my socks of either...
And.........god....what is soo fucking great about a few backstabings with money involved? It's not original. That EXACT plot may never have been done but come on....we've seen it before, and even if we hadn't this wasn't anything that great.
And...what... the fuck kinda retort was that...sit on a stool and start spinning? lol what, did you pull that from a a fuckin happy days episode?! DO you often quarrel with old women? Relax buddy. I meant the poop hole thing as a mild joke, no need to order me onto stools.....to uhh...spin...... ?

I can't be bothered with somebody so obviously off their nut.
I mean really. I don't think there can be any argument over whether she's beautiful or not. I've admitted in the past that her acting left something to be desired. But I thought she was fine in TIJ. But saying she's not beautiful is laughable.
Whatever.

She's not beautiful. She's vacant looking. Fuck if that ho ever got up on my shit I'd crack that bitch and be like, "BACK THE FUCK UP BI-OTCH I can smell yo stank ass cooch from here, DAMN! You make the first move of gettin personal and Grebdron posts a a bitch slap animation and I'm the imature one....and it's "you're"...
Yes I dislike a movie. A lot. Debates like this are fun. It is the rant section for fuck sake. You're a bit...up tight...don't ya think? You can slander movies and celebrities to exaggerated proportions... so chill.
I think an actress isn't hot and I'm off my nut according to a few of you. So I toss up something over the top as a follow up and you're actually getting pissed? lol.....people people....Being mature isn't refraining from anything but indirectly condescending remarks....you can have a sense of humor without being completely immature...so try easssin up a bit.
And for the record I still say she's damn mediocre. She has what could pass as the criteria for a beautiful woman, however she does nothing for me.....and she cannot act worth a fucking shit. There is nothing intriguing about her what so ever. And for the record dumping her may not have been the easiest thing ever....but I think it was good for us in the long run :D
There now uhh...everybody turn them frowns upside down....

The Italian Job isn't awful. It's entertaining. Not great, not awful. Awful is a very harsh word. That's reserved for movies like Freddy Got Fingered or Dumb and Dumberer or From Justin to Kelly.

I definitely get what ninja is saying
The actors in The Italian Rim Job were just "going through the motions".
I was mildly entertained and just glad that I got to this this movie for free.
