Let’s cut to the chase. Is "American Pie 2" as good as "American Pie?" In a word, no. But it’s still consistently hilarious and easily one of the best movies of the summer. It will not disappoint fans of the original or anyone looking for some good laughs.

Picking up a year after the events in the original, everyone has gone off to college and finished their freshman year. Jim (Jason Biggs) is about to engage in his second sexual experience with a girl looking for end of the school year sex, no strings attached. So right off the bat we know that the movie is nothing like real college, but that’s ok.

In the middle of doing the deed, Jim’s dad (the always wonderful Eugene Levy) walks in. He gives him a little talk about the birds and the bees, and then Jim’s mom and the girl’s parents present themselves. This has all been shown in the previews, and for once an entire movie hasn’t been given away in the previews.

Back home, and after more frank sex talk with his dad, Jim meets up with the guys, Stifler (Seann William Scott), Oz (Chris Klein), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas). They share college stories, most of which discuss who got some female action and who didn’t.

But things are not the same. They’re in college now, and they all want to have another summer to remember, but have no idea how that’s going to happen. As he did in the first one, Kevin consults his older brother (Casey Affleck) for advice. He tells Kevin that he went through the same thing with his friends, and that they rented a house on Lake Michigan for the summer and had the best time of their lives. It all ended with one huge bash.

And with that, Jim, Stifler, Oz, Kevin and Finch are off to a house on the lake for the summer. They get a job painting houses and plan on a summer of girls, alcohol and debauchery, not necessarily in that order, before throwing a party to end all parties.

Of course, the girls from the original are back as well. Heather (Mena Suvari) is spending the summer studying abroad, but will be back for the party. Vicky (Tara Reid) and Jessica (Natasha Lyonne) are around and spend some times hanging out with the guys.

Jim has his hands full in the female department. He finds out that Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) will be visiting at the end of the summer, and quickly panics. He employs Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), who is at band camp nearby, to help him prepare for Nadia and teach him how to become a stud under the covers. Jim needs a lot of practice.

Other characters returning from the original include Sherman (Chris Owens), Stifler’s brother (Eli Marienthal) and Stifler’s mom (Jennifer Coolidge), though there is no sign of Stifler’s dad, who was rumored to make an appearance.

It would be cruel to give away more details about the summer shenanigans engaged in by the boys. Give credit to writer Adam Herz, who also penned the first one, for coming up with situations that are creative and feel fresh. Nothing feels forced or desperate. Herz doesn’t take the easy way out and write a stale gross-out comedy. His script is generally on par with the originals.

Stifler is featured prominently this time, and that was a very smart move. Due to the fact that his role is bigger, he is even funnier in the sequel. He’s more profane, perverted and obnoxious, and gets the movie’s biggest laughs.

The rest of the cast is fine, not really any better or worse than in the first one. They are all playing the same characters after all.

Think of "American Pie 2" as getting a Christmas present, and you already know what it is because you looked in your mom’s closet and found it. When you open it up, you’re not surprised, but you get exactly what you were expecting and wanting, so you’re happy anyway. As far as sequels go, this is a good one, more than worthy of its predecessor.

Good review dude. The 1st AP was a guilty pleasure of mine, and I'm actually looking forward to the 2nd one. Luckily this one sounds like fun too. Oh yeah, I have one question, the 1st AP showed Shannon Elizabeth's amazing breasts, but have heard there wasn't any nudity in this one, please tell me that's not true!

Shannon Elizabeth is fully clothed this time around, but there is still a decent amount of nudity. I don't want to ruin it for you, but I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

AWESOME review Pablo!!!
I loved American Pie and I can't wait to see the sequel. I think I'll go when it opens this next weekend. I'm glad that it's been getting pretty good reviews, most say it's as good as the first one. It was a very smart move for them to keep all the same cast and characters, that's always nice. I can't wait to see it, I'm sure it will kick ass... By the way Pablo, what would you give it for a grade?

Thank you Mike. I'd give it an A- or 8/10. I really have no major complaints about it. A great comedy as far as I'm concerned.

Great review, pablo. I saw it yesterday, first showing, but I ended up standing in a line for a half an hour to get a ticket. (Oh, did I mention I won't be 17 until August 30? So basically it was a movie I NEEDED to see alone ... mwa ha ha, that's what the theater gets for not carding me!) It was well worth it. Some decent trailers (cream of the crop was Corky Romano, that looks like it is getting better attention than other movies coming out in October), but once the movie started, God it was funny. More screentime for Michelle and Stifler, less for other characters, but you don't really notice. So many antics that are going on that you'd rather be laughing than caring. Best scenes in the movie - Stifler's party, CB radio, superglue, and bandcamp. I give it an 8/10 and I think it is just a little better than the original. Just a lil bit.

I went to see American Pie 2 tonight and I LOVED IT... I will see it again. It's not every day you see a sequel that's just as good if not better than the original... I thought it was a little better than the first one, but I loved them both...

American Pie: 8/10
American Pie 2: 8/10

AMERICAN PIE 2:

WARNING: Minor Spoilers!!!

It's not every day a sequel comes along that's as good or better than the first one, but with AMERICAN PIE 2 that's what we get. This has to be one of the best sequels I've
ever seen. And they kept the same cast and characters which is always a good thing.
That's right, EVERYONE is here. There's Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Chris Klein), Stifler (Seann William Scott), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), Vicky (Tara Reid), Jessica (Natasha Lyonne), Heather (Mena Suvari), Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), Sherman (Chris Owen), Jim's Dad (Eugene Levy), Jim's Mom (Molly Cheek), Stifler's Mom (Jennifer Coolidge), Stifler's Brother (Eli Marienthal), and even another cameo by Kevin's Brother (Casey Affleck)!!! Like I said, EVERYONE...

I am very pleased with American Pie 2. It managed to be a GREAT follow up to one of my
favorite sex comedies. You take a ton of laughs, add a little bit of a story, and you get American Pie 2. I was a little disappointed that most of the girls aren't in the movie very much but it wasn't that big of a deal, you'll be too busy laughing to care. And it was nice that they took two very funny characters and gave them bigger parts in this movie, you know who I'm talking about, Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) and Stifler (Seann William Scott), they were both so funny in the first one and I was happy to see them have bigger parts in this movie.

So, what's it about?

After spending a year apart at different schools, and meeting different people, the guys (Jim, Stifler, Kevin, Oz, and Finch) rent a beach house and vow to make this a summer they'll always remember. As it turns out, whether that will happen or not has a lot to do with the girls. Between the wild parties, outrageous revelations and yes, trips to band camp, they discover that times change and people change, but in the end, it's all about sticking together... Yes, the sticking together part is from the movies poster.

American Pie 2 is such a fun time and a perfect summer movie. It has many funny scenes and my favorite would have to be the scene with the lesbians, very funny. This movie is so hilarious and sweet. There's a part where Jim figures out he's in love with Michelle and runs to her band concert and up on stage and they kiss while the song "Be Like That" by Three Doors Down plays-----Oh my god, that scene was so sweet, the mixture of the song playing and the scene itself caused me to get a huge smile on my face and I was so happy for these characters. Between American Pie and American Pie 2 the characters just grown on you and you want them to be happy, you actually care about them. I loved that scene, VERY sweet. And even though an American Pie 3 might ruin the
greatness of these two movies, I still want one. I just can't say goodbye to these
characters. It's kind of like when you have to say goodbye to friends. These characters
are like my friends. And you know you have to say goodbye sometime but you just don't want to. That's the way I feel about the characters in this movie. It's so wierd...

Anyway, if you enjoyed American Pie there's no doubt that you will enjoy American Pie 2.
My only real complaint is that a lot of the jokes were taken from the first one and used
again here. But it's not that big of a deal since the movie still comes out ahead, being a very worthy and hilarious follow up to the brilliant teen sex comedy American Pie. I highly recommend this movie! It's the movie you must see before your summer can be
considered complete...

Here's my take on the film. WARNING there are some MINOR SPOILERS

Being one of the biggest fans of the first film when it initially came out, i saw it maybe 3 or 4 times in theaters, I now own the Ultimate Edition DVD, and even before that, I owned it on video and watched it almost every opportunity I got. Now, I knew when they were making Part 2, that there was no way they could come close to the greatness of part 1, but fuck...they came close!

American Pie 2 follows almost the same formula, substituting some of the hijinks from the last film with more hijinks in this film. Heres a comparison.

#1
First Film - Stifler Drinks Sperm in the beer at the party
Second Film - Stifler gets pissed on at the party

#2
First Film - Jim and Nadia's broadcast over the internet gets played allover the city
Second Film - The scene with the lesbians gets played over the CB radios

those are some examples...but I loved what they did with them, the lesbian scene had some great build-up and the cut-ins with the folks listening in were stellar.

As much as some people think it stunk that the girls didnt have a big role, it didn't really bother me...I mean the focal point of this film is the guys, and approaching sex. This is a guy movie, and to enjoy it to its fullest, seeing it with a bunch of guys wll make you enjoy it even more.

This is a REAL funny movie, which doesn't surpass the original, but nonetheless succeeds and gives us a fun time at the movies.

I loved it. Of course it is impossible to surpass the original but as far as sequels go, it was a whole bunch better than Austin Powers 2. My only quibble was that it should have ended with them at Dog Years.

LeonardShelby's "American Pie 2" Review

Here it is, the moment that every single one of you dedicated readers out there has waited for...the unveiling of LeonardShelby's verdict of "American Pie 2"! :One person out there applauds:

Now I was originally planning on seeing this movie with a large group of friends, mainly guys. But since that's wishful thinking, I ended up seeing this with my good friend Vigs, who saw it with me more out of pity then anything else. But pity is better then lonliness. I think that I might've had an even higher appreciation for the movie if I had seen it with a larger group, but as it was, I still was highly entertained.

Now the plot of this film is no Memento, hell it's not even a Jurassic Park III, but that's not what's important. The thing that the first film relied on was excellent ensemble acting (which I believe seperated this film from the other teen tripe that's out there) and Adam Herz's vulgar-yet-sweet screenplay. Well the exact same ensemble cast is back, most of them performing to the same level in the first one...although I believe Seann William Scott (some say I look like him...unfortunately those people are either in prison or in a psychiatric ward...sigh...) and one of my comic idols, Eugene Levy, turn in even better performances. They made the film for me, as every scene that these two were in brought a smile to my face. Now I know you are all clamoring for more, and I promise you (or is a lame threat?) that you will see alot more of me on this bulletin board as I am heading off to college this fall and I need something to keep me from succeeding in academia (Just kidding kids, stay in school, drink milk, and don't snort heroin)...but all in all, the film was entertaing and if you liked the first film, you'll be entertained by the second. This is LeonardShelby exiting the room...and I'll leave you this parting thought "Everyone needs a busom as a pillow"

I was getting at that they were both hyped up sequels to sleeper hits that opened huge and is getting great fan reaction.

Personally I loved AP2 and think not only did it live up to the hype but surpassed the original. Granted the girls didn't play as big a part in the sequel but it was well written and offered up alot of laughs. Stilfer played a much bigger role in the sequel and stole the movie along with his little brother. If you are interested in talking more about AP2 visit the American Pie formum http://www.americanpievideo.com/boards/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi and for even more check out my site at www.angelfire.com/fl3/WarmApplePie/main.html (http://www.angelfire.com/fl3/WarmApplePie/main.html)

I just wanted to know, in the lesbian scene, was there any serious lesbian action?

They kiss some and there's nudity. Plus they rub up against eachother and touch eachother, but it's nothing like in WILD THINGS or BOUND.

I loved this movie. I had a terrific time. Since I havent seen many films this summer, and the ones I did see sucked ass, this is the best one. And I think this is equal to the first one. Damn it was funny. I like your Christmas Present metaphor. That's exactly what it was. Only this was a little better for me because of this whole "plan" that my friends and I have been planning for a long time.

Great follow up to the original even though not quite as good as the first one. Stiffler rules and glad to see Alyson Hannigan more in this one than the first, and I was glad to see alot less of Vicky, Kevin, Heather and Oz in this one! Shit Break and Stiffler's mom is still funny...and Stiffler's little brother was great him and Stiffler should have their own movie together!! Overall a good solid sequel

American Pie 8/10
American Pie 2 7/10

Am I the only one that doesn't think Finch (Shit Break) is funny at all? I've never thought he was funny and he's my least favorite character.
