Arnold Schwarzenegger: The Modern Action Star:

Collateral Damage -

Arnold's most recent film. He plays Gordy Brewer, a fireman who goes into to Columbia to kill "The Wolf", a volatile terrorist who killed his wife and son. While not as great as some of Arnie's other flicks, this movie does have tons of action, including an exciting showdown in a D.C. building. I LIKED this movie. 7/10.

The Sixth Day -

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It has an intense story, great acting, and one of the coolest sequences ever in an Arnie film (the futurisitc helicopter race.) This one is also very underrated. Arnold chose a great script here. Pity it did not become a huge hit. 9/10.

End Of Days -

One of Arnold's few, if only, horror films. He plays a depressed and drunken cop who must stop the Devil from having intercourse with a beautiful and kind woman. Not exactly an amazing movie, but I was creeped out and it was nice to see Arnold expand a bit. 7/10.

Batman & Robin -

I really don't hate this film as much as most do. It is cheesy, but very entertaining. It does not retain ANY of the comic's vision, though, which p-ed me off a bit. 6/10.

Jingle All The Way -

A truly underrated holiday classic. A social satire about Christmas that made me laugh and get in the Christmas mood. Not exactly the best movie ever made, but a great choice for holiday viewing. 8/10.

Eraser -

I LOVE THIS ONE! An excellent thriller/action film. Tons of action, suspense, and mystery. Arnold seemed to really have fun with this one. Definitely worth a blind DVD buy if you haven't seen it. 9/10.

Junior - 3/10. 'Nuff said on this one.

True Lies -

A classic action/comedy. Arnold and James Cameron are kind of spoofing the spy genre here with a family twist on things, but it still has tons of action if that is what you crave. A classic. 10/10.

Last Action Hero -

This one is really underrated. It has a clever concept, good acting, a nice villian, tons of movie references, and an appearance from Ian McKellen as THE GRIM REAPER. What more do you want?! 8/10.

T2: Judgement Day -

Everything is perfect. Not as good as the original, but still one of the best films ever made. 10/10.

Kindergarten Cop -

LOL! This one is truly fun. A perfect mix of comedy, drama, and action. Schwarzenegger shines in this. 8/10.

Total Recall -

A sci-fi classic. Offbeat, but supremely entertaining. This one gets in your face and knocks your lights out. 9/10.

Twins -

One of my favorite comedies! DeVito and The Oak are a perfect team. This movie just works amazingly. 9/10.

Red Heat -

A bad movie. It just lacks inspiration and charm. I wanted MUCH MORE. 4/10.

The Running Man -

A cool film. It is exciting as hell and Arnie gives a sterling performance. 7/10.

Predator -

A classic. This one has the charm of a B-movie, but works like an A-action flick. 9/10.

Raw Deal - 5/10

Commando - 7/10

Red Sonja - 4/10

The Terminator -

Arnold's best film. Thrilling, action-packed, and mysterious. 10/10.

Conan The Destroyer -

Fun, but does not live up to the first one. 6/10.

Conan The Barbarian -

An excellent action film. Sword fights abound and James Earl Jone is one nasty prick in this. 8/10.

Pumping Iron -

I love this one. I can watch it over and over. An interesting doc. 8/10.

Hercules In New York -

A cheesy fest for all. Nothing is serious in this one. All for the laughs, IMO. 5/10.

I think you're being a bit generous there, dh. I mean, Arnie has basically made the same film 8 times, and none of them have been spectacular. I'd say there are two Arnold films worth watching: Total Recall and True Lies.

Collateral Damage * * * An underrated movie. Very exciting

The 6th Day * * * This one I don't understand why it wasn't well recieved. This is actually of one of Arnold's more thoughtful films an intriguing and even semi intelligent scifi thriller with plenty of action for his fans. Arnold was good but it was Tony Goldwin and Robert Duvall who stole the show.

End of Days * * * Perhaps his most underrated performance. Arnold actually had some meat in this role and I thought he came through with a strong performance. And, although not as good as Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate (though close), Gabriel Byrne gave a marvalous and marvalously entertaining performance. Not a great movie but certainly a good movie

Batman and Robin * * Although not as bad as some people have said all I have to say about this is . . . Ugh. The movie looks great and the action sequences are competently done (though hardly hair raising) this has got to be one of the most badly miscasted films in some time. Apart from George Clooney who I thought made a decent enough Batman/Bruce Wayne and Michael Gough who once again plays the loyal butler Alfred, there is not one single good performance to be had. Even Chris O'Donnel, whom I thought was wonderful in Batman Forever, isn't very good. His Robin/Dick Grason comes off as a spoiled brat. And Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl? Doesn't work. But the biggest offenders are the villians. Not only are Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy the WORST villians in the Batman franchize, but possibly among the worst villians in ANY movie ever! And the writing, particularly the dialogue, is just awful. Unfortunately, Arnold is stuck with most of the worst lines in the movie.

Jingle All the Way * * * A delightful and a very funny holiday family film and Arnold is terrific in it as are Rita Wilson, Sinbad and the late Phil Hartman.

Eraser * * * Not one of Arnold's great action movies but still enjoyable. And I particularly enjoyed James Caan's performance. Over the top and hammy but alot of fun.

Junior * * * 1/2 This was just a warm and winning and delightful film and Arnold was wonderful in it.

True Lies * * * * my 2nd fav of his Great mixture of action spy/espionage thrills and humor. One of my favorite comedies of all time. I just LOVED it. One moment I would be on the edge of my seat the next I'd be laughing my ass off! And Tom Arnold is SO freakin' funny in this movie.

Last Action Hero * * * His most underrated film I had a great time. Inventive, original and lively.

Terminator 2 * * * * my #1 fav of his and one of the best action movies of all time

Kindergarten Cop * * * Nice mixture of comedy and action and drama

Total Recall * * * Very cool sci-fi action movie. Great twists

Twins * * * While the pairing of Arnold with Danny DeVito may sound odd it worked very well. They worked very well together and this was a very funny movie.

Red Heat * * * I liked him and Jim Belushi together

The Running Man * * 1/2 Ok but definately one of his lesser movies

Predator * * *

Raw Deal * 1/2 Don't really remember this movie except I remember I didn't like but I still need to see it again before this rating is definitive

Commando * * * Really cheesy but really fun

Red Sonja * Just like Raw Deal I don't really remember this one except I do remember thinking this was really bad

The Terminator * * * 1/2

Hercules in New York * * 1/2 I don't know if this was intended as a comedy but even if it is, it is unintentionally hilarious. Even so I had such a good time watching this awful movie that I would qualify it as a guilty pleasure Just hearing someone else's voice come out of Arnold's voice made this movie worth watching.
