Hi there, I have a concern about some DVD casings. I purchased the Eagles - Hell Freezes Over about two months ago. In the case that it comes in, the button that you press to release the DVD has helped render my DVD unplayable. It's alright when you press it to release the DVD but when you put it back into the case it snaps back in. This snapping has put a crack long the transparent part of the DVD. It's now unreadable. Forty two dollars(NZ) down the drain. I have also spoken to some video rental stores and they have the same problem also. Have you heard of this happening and if you have, who would be responsible for replacement? The record store where I bought it stated that if it was in good condition when it left the store then they are not responsible for replacement. That leaves getting it replaced quite difficult and expensive. Could you suggest what else I could do? If this is a problem with even video stores experiencing this, it could upset a lot of DVD consumers in future. Help! Cheers. -Miles Skinner, Christchurch.

Some stores can repair CDs with scratches. They sandblast it with water & sand I think. Then they use a machine to make a new plastic cover.
I don't know if it'll work with a crack &/or a DVD, but I would try it.
Here is machine used for that ... http://www.cdrepairman.com/technology.html
I know you won't buy the machine /ubb/wink.gif, but in case you are interested to see it...
I know you don't live in the US, but you can e-mail them to see if the can repair DVDs. If they do & you don't find local stores that can do it, you could send it to them ... http://www.cdrepairman.com/howdiscsrepaired.html

That kind of happens to the FIght Club DVD. I have to be really really really careful. Maybe I'll take the DVD disc's out then cut the circle into fours that would look like a plus sign. Maybe that'd work...

My dvd that I had problems with came out of the box when I opened it. I was pretty pissed off, but oh well.

I can't believe this topic didn't get more replies. I'm planning to get both "Fight Club" and "American Beauty," and if the cases are fucked up you bet I want to know about it.

I haven't had this problem yet, but with a lot of dvds it is quite a tight with the tab that holds them in. I do have Fight Club, but really haven't had a problem with it. My thought is that maybe they should package DVD's like some music cds that come in a cardboard envelope and don't have to snap down onto anything.

The FIGHT CLUB case is fine.
The SCARFACE case, on the other hand... THE GRIP OF DEATH!

So far I have a problem with Anchor Bay DVD cases. I bought "Hellraiser" and "Hellbound: Hellraiser II," both the discs are hard to get out, I keep worrying that I'll break them. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif
