View Full Version : Worst movie ever (yeah right)

I simply cannot stand when someone says that a movie that is a generally well excepted movie is the WORST MOVIE EVER. Sure, in your opinion, it might have been bad, but there has to be worse movies. For example, on the Godfather page on IMDB there is a thread that says its the worst movie ever. Well, I'm sure that one or two of the Police Academy movies are worse. And, (I hate to admit this) I have a movie called Cop and a Half that when I watch it now, I realize IT SUCKED. I liked it when I was 5, but hey! I was 5, what do I know? Back then, I thought it was the greatest. Oh, how I loathe these people. Hoo... Alright, I'm better.

I hate when people are apathetic about movies.
I work in my parents video library sometimes and, many times a day, some idiot will come in and return a few movies...
Let's say they are XXX, PULP FICTION, MASTER OF DISGUISE and TAXI DRIVER.
I'll say, 'So, what did you think of them?'
And the customer will shrug and say, 'They were alright.'
I feel like jumping over the counter, grabbing them by the neck, shaking them and screaming, 'ALRIGHT? They were all just alright? MASTER OR DISGUISE was alright and so was PULP FICTION? One of them is awful rubbish and one of them is brilliant. How can they both be just alright?'
As much as it pisses me off when someone calls a great movie, the worst movie ever. I hate it about ten times more when something really awful gets a perfect rating. And that particular person happens to like all these awful movies and give them perfect ratings.

Yeah that would piss me off two...I would kill somebody if they said that MASTER OF DISGUISE and PULP FICTION were alright movies. And I totally agree with one is trash and the other sucks ass. But then again it is hard to find a better movie then MASTER OF DISGUISE. But yeah I would have slapped that stupid shit with the DVD case then threw him Equilibrium and said "A Stupid movie for a stupid fuck" Then gave him a Blow Pop and sent him on his way.

i see so people arent entitlted to opinions, no matter how weak their reasoning, or how weird it is to you that they dislike a movie?
everyones different. we all like different things. so what if you dont agree? its not always about your opinion...
But yeah I would have slapped that stupid shit with the DVD case then threw him Equilibrium and said "A Stupid movie for a stupid fuck" Then gave him a Blow Pop and sent him on his way.

Here's a little secret:
There is no 'worst movie ever'.
Yes, there are movies that are horrible. But those movies that you think are horrible, somebody else probably adores, therefore cancelling out the whole 'worst movie ever' theory.
But do ya know what really pisses me off? When people say that a certain movie was absolutely horrible when it truly wasn't! *cough*dumbanddumberer*cough*
Oh well, I suppose that's what opinions are all about.

Pulp Fiction and The Master of Disguise were all right movies, though I would grade Pulp Fiction ever so slightly over The Master of Disguise. You know, PF gets about a 4/10 and TMOD gets about a 3/10. So yeah, they're both just all right. You may proceed with your vague threats ;)
Oh, and I liked Equilibrium very much. Please refrain from calling me, or anyone else who liked the movie, a "stupid fuck".

It's somebody's opinion so get over it, just because Pulp Fiction and Godfather are both critically acclaimed movies, it doesn't mean that they aren't the worst movie ever in their eyes. Hell, I fucking hate The Godfather Trilogy and never want to waste a minute of my life on those pieces of shit. It's all a matter of opinion.
Police Academy might not be as critically acclaimed, but maybe somebody who doesn't like Pulp Fiction or Godfather are more entertained by a movie like that, not everybody in America are movie buffs like us.
I think the reason why it pisses you off is because somebody doesn't like a movie that you think is brilliant.

Quoth, you stupid fuc.............................oh wait, I liked Equilibrium as well. :D Well then I guess that makes me a stupid fuck as well. I'm such a stupid fuck. I actually have my own tastes in movies. I actually like stuff other people hate. Why oh why can't I see thier point of view? Why must I be labeled an out-cast? Why do I have to have my own opinion?! Im such a stupid fuck!
You must have some pretty serious mental issues if you say you'd kill someone for thinking Pulp Fiction and MoD are alright movies. Jesus pal, get a grip on yourself. Not everyone is gonna like every movie you like. Not everyone has yor exact tastes in films. Hardly anybody I know likes all the movies I like, but I would never resort to saying I would kill them just for thier tastes in stuff.
Oh and, there is no 'worst movie ever', because, like mentioned, someone always likes something others dont. So if 99 people hated a movie, and 1 person liked it, it wouldnt be the worst movie ever because not everyone hated it. And dont gimme that 'majority rules' bullshit either!

You guys missed the entire point of the rant. All I'm saying is that you cannot tell me that a movie like Cop and a Half is better than Pulp Fiction (and IMO the dialogue is hilarious, the action is right on and it is probably one of the greatest movies ever made). Even if you hated it, the point is that there is probably a worse movie or why would so many people like it?
WOW... that feels better, once again.

I know that this thread was originally about people thinking 'good' movies are the 'worst ever' without realising that there are almost definitely worse movies out there.
But my comment was kind of a side-rant, and I only used PULP FICTION and MASTER OF DISGUISE as examples to illustrate my point.
I wasn't saying it annoys me if somebody likes both of them. I was saying that it annoys me when a person doesn't bother to have an opinion. When you ask them if they liked some films and they reply with the catch-all phrase of, 'they're alright.'
That's what I hate.
I want to hear, 'Well, PULP FICTION was really good, it had great dialogue and it was very funny. I thought MASTER OF DISGUISE was worthless rubbish. XXX wasn't as bad as people say but it wasn't as good as THE TRANSPORTER...'
You know...OPINIONS!
I don't mind what the opinions are, just as long as people have them.
Apathy is, to me, the worst thing. Apathy happens when people just plonk themselves in front of the TV and absord whatever appears on the screen without summoning up the energy to decide whether they like it or not.
People like that generally think every single movie they see is 'alright.' They never love a movie or hate a movie.

Yeah but you have to understand some people just aren't movie people. They'll watch next to anything to kill some time. Like my one of my brothers and father say. Most of the time they'll say a movie is just alright. They rarely say a movie is good or bad and even rarer they'll say a movie a movie is great (a great movie to my brother is Dumb and Dumber) or awful.
These kind of people don't share all of our passion and love for film so as long as film is entertaining in some way they think it is alright. Not too bad and not too good. Just a way to kill a couple of hours.

Eoghain, I think you done quoted the wrong person. My comments were towards puckat, who said if someone thought both movies were all right, he'd 'kill them'. If you ask me thats a bit ridiculous.
I too hate it when people dont form their own opinions, they just go off of what everyone else says. My cousin has this thing he does lately where he'll read as many negative reviews on something as possible, then see/listen to it and say he hates it, then when I ask why he'll say 'well so and so didnt like it, this one guy didnt like it, so it sucked'.
Couple weeks ago the new Metallica cd came out, we are huge Metallica fans, I loved the cd, he scoured the web looking for bad reviews, then bought the cd, listened to it, and said he hates it. I asked him why he hated it when he's liked everything they've done in the past and he proceeded to bombard me with links to websites with bad reviews of the cd. He even took the time to insinuate the fact that since I liked the cd, I had no idea what I was talking about, because he went to a website full of fan comments and 'these people hate it, they know what their talking about', which basically means, 'since you like it, your a dumbass'.
He did a similar thing with Bruce Almighty. We both love Jim Carrey, everything he's ever done, hell, we can pop in Dumb and Dumber and talk along with the entire movie. Anyways, he read as many bad reviews as possible, including our very own Joblos, and proceeded to say 'the movie sucked, it wasnt funny or anything". When I asked him why he didnt like it when Jim Carrey is his favorite actor, he said 'Joblo didnt like it'. It's pissed me off to no end because he refuses to like anything anymore because he doesnt have his own opinion on anything, he just goes by what everyone else says.
So see, I too hate it when people cant form their own opinions.
Oh and jasonleefan, you know, I bet some people would say Cop and a Half is better then Pulp Fiction. You know why? Because they have their own tastes in movies. Not everyone likes Pulp Fiction, a lot of people like funny movies where they dont have to think much. Why do you think when you go to the video store copies of 'Serving Sara' or something is checked out and copies of 'Donnie Darko' are sittin there waiting to be rented? I've said it before, not everyone has the same tastes you do.

So maybe you guys did not see.... I was making a funny......guesss it did not work very well (well it was believable so thats good) but yeah it was a joke made to poke some fun at what Eoghain said
I knew he was saying MoD was a crap movie witch it is but I turned it around making him think I thought he meant Pulp Fiction witch is a great movie......LOL LOL.....I thought it was funny......I threw Equillibrium in there just cause of the one thread on the movie i wen't to and I was the only one who hated it
But then again it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen
Sorry if i tweaked any of your feathers the wrong way fella's & Ladies
Don't hate..

My comments were also directed at Puckat. I realise now that it looked like I was responding to you - but I only used your 'quote' because it was the latest response to that particular thread of thought.
I understood your point. Sorry about the confusion!
Oh, and Puckat - I realised you were joking. After all - you said 'It's hard to find a better movie than MASTER OF DISGUISE'! I thought that was amusing.
At the same time, my point didn't have much to do with one movie being good or the other being bad - I was commenting on people who don't have strong opinions on anything. But, as ilovemovies said, it's true that not everybody thinks as deeply about movies as we do.
I'm going to watch EQUILIBRIUM this week, so I'll let you know what I think of it. I'll probably think it's 'alright'. He he he!

it DOES irk me when people say something is the worst movie ever.. honestly, you can get a LOT out of bad movie...
especially when the movies are at least put together with a degree of professionalism and they dont bore you senseless..
I should sit them in front of my copy of .NIGHT OF HORROR (http://www.agonybooth.com/night_of_horror/)
and then see how they appreciate the worthwhile films that they bash. sheesh

Worst/Best Movie Ever....
These are eager people.... I know a particular schmoe who is always finding really cool music, but it's always "The Best."
I'm not really like that, but it doesn't bother me as much when I just respect that they are VERY, VERY, VERY excited about something.
I am partially guilty of this practice, but I use a loop hole...
Joe Vs. The Volcano was one of the worst Tom Hanks movies I'd ever seen.
The extra verbage seems to make people not notice that I'm very excited. :D
Apathy....
Oh, I am soooo guilty as charged. There are many, many movies that I am oh, so neutral about. CQ is one that comes to mind. I really didn't like it, but would still watch it because, well, I didn't think it was that bad.
Is that the same thing? It sounds like it.
I think that "eigh" (or however you would spell that expression, like - the sound people make to say something is "blah", or "ho-hum") Any way, that's just a bad attitude, plain and simple.
However, you must also remember that some people say that movies are "alright" because they may feel strongly about it being really bad, and don't want to discuss it with people who like the movie.
Assuming I didn't like Pulp Fiction, I could see myself saying it was "Alright" just to spare the emotions of someone who thinks it was the greatest movie ever.
just some thoughts...

BubbaStrangelove: That's what everyone should say. Instead of it is the worst, say it is one of the worst. I really don' think that there is a best movie or a worst movie. To me, it is just my favorite and my least favorite.
There can only be worst movies (WE) have seen. Not, the worst "ever". There's too many people who get their boats floated off of what others consider to be shit.
I think Ed Wood's movies suck rotten goose ass, and dont even find them enjoyable enough to laugh at how bad they are. For me, they are cringe inducing experiences. Others find stuff funny as hell and can actually find a good time in it..I cannot.
Freddy got fingered cracks me up..others think THIS is the worst ever..well maybe the most TASTELESS ever.... :D
I think John Waters Pink Flamingos is one of the worst I have seen...others think its great...go figure.

I guess the "Worst movie ever" critique is just the easiest knee-jerk reaction of a lazy reviewer. I think most people say it just for the sake of making some noise. Interestingly, the "worst movie" awards always seem to go to whatever flick is a big commercial success at the time; Star Wars, Pearl Harbor, Titanic etc. Now whether you think those flicks are bad or not is up to you, but I don't think anyone can honestly say that any one of them classifies as the "Worst Movie Ever." If so, then I woul say that such a person really hasn't seen that many movies.

My feelings towards people who praise fluff and brand intelligent, challenging material unwatchable run like something Dennis Miller said about Michael Moore's Oscar speech: "That asshole has every right in the world to be wrong."
I admit, I do get a little miffed when people I know tell me how much PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE or SOLARIS or SIGNS sucked but how great FREDDY GOT FINGERED and TOMMY BOY were. But it's their right to have an opinion, no matter how personally wrong it is.

When someone says "worst movie ever' to me, I dont mind. I might even be guilty of saying it-although I usually read a lot of reviews before I see a movie so I don't see too many of the really bad ones- although I'm sure I've probably missed some of the pretty good ones like this too-for those I have to rely on word of mouth. As I posted recently, I did end up seeing Justin and Kelly which I thought was cute fluff, but many of the reviewers were just about saying "worst ever" :D
