Amazon.com is selling both of them at a reduced price, I'm thinking about taking them up on thier offer. Just one question, how good are the transfers? (I really don't care about extras)

I would think the transfers would be excellent but I have not seen them on DVD. However I do have both these movies on Laserdisc and they are beautiful, great quality. Im an extra freak and sadly the Howling dvd does not contain the great and informative commentary from the director, dee wallace stone and christopher stone that my laser disc has.

I heard they were coming out with a The Howling special edition DVD to replace that bare bones MGM disk. That was what I was holding out for. Early next year I think.

From horrordvds.com:

Though MGM has ‘The Howling’ scheduled for DVD release this week, Dante [Howling director] informed us that a Special Edition is indeed in the works and will see the light of the moon in about a year. The film’s
sound and picture will be re-mastered and the disc will most likely come packed with extras. Sorry, no specifics were given.

The picture already has been re-mastered for the DVD, so I'm not sure what that's about, unless they plan on cleaning it up more. As for extras, I'd love to see some. It's too bad they don't get the extras from the laserdisc, as it includes a commentary with
Dante, Dee Wallace, and the now deceased Chris Stone. Great track too.

What about "Scanners?" Any word on a SE?

The Howling dvd will probally have the same extras as the Laserdisc Green. I have not heard about a SE DVD for Scanners but they probally will have one hopefully. My laserdisc of Scanners only features Isolated score and trailers.
