This is a little rant about the volume of commercials on t.v. nowadays. WHY DO ADVERTISERS FEEL THE NEED TO YELL AT ME AND POUND LOUD MUSIC INTO MY EARS TO SELL PRODUCTS? For fucks sake, im sitting right here, im not 300 feet away where I cant hear you. When I watch t.v. I do so with stereo sound, but the volume knob on my receiver goes to 10 and I keep it at 3 or 4 because any louder than that I will go deaf. But why must the makers of Stridex feel the need to pound ear shattering bass into my brain just to sell medicated pads? (The commercial im talking about is the stupid ass one with the girl that switches seats in the theater because she cant see, what the fuck does that have to do with pimples?) Theres a local funiture store that has commercials on t.v. round here and the guy is literally yelling during the entire commercials: "ONLY 599 FOR A PILLOW TOP QUEEN, NO MONEY DOWN, FREE DELIVERY AND SET UP, ONLY AT AMERICAN FREIGHT!!!!!" Listen up you stupid bastard advertisers, anytime you yell at me, or pound me with bass and annoying loud music, it makes me want to buy your competitors product and not yours. Your lame attempt at advertising is not working, SO PLEASE STOP FUCKING SHOUTING AT ME!!!
Thank you.

I agree. We always mute the commercials. Way to get us to listen to your ads, dumbasses.

hmmm well to be honest, my TV is basically there so the DVD player has something to plug into... i dont really watch much television, but i do agree with what your saying...
still, i guess if they feel the need to drive the point home...
id be more inclined to pay attention to a subtle advert, but i am a pretty weird anyway ;)

Actually, I think that commercials aren't any louder than TV shows if you measure the decimals. However, commercials use "attention getting" sounds in long bursts. Whereas on Friends all you usually hear is just like people talking for a bit on and off, on a car commercial you hear rock music and the cars motor going nonstop for 30 seconds.
It is annoying though when commericals are poorly mixed -- you usually see this a lot with local commericals. This is becoming a thing of the past as stations update to digital equiptment. You can't overdrive audio on digital without it making weird noises.
Haha!

The people talking, even shouting, isn't as loud as the commercials, at least around here. And my stereo says the commericials are louder, it has those waveform things on it.

Theres too much commercials, i was recording a film i really like some time ago, cutting out all the commercials as i watched it and it shaved around 20 minutes off the time in the TV guide so its like at least 4 minute breaks:mad:

20 minutes, assuming it was a full two hour timeslot, is very moderate. For TV shows, it is typically 16 minutes per hour, or 32 minutes for a full two hours.
Raising the volume when a commercial plays in order to "get the viewers attention" is about as stupid and lame as going to web sites and being barraged with their insipid POP-UPS...or being met with SPAM in the e-mail. These have no effect on me in garnering my interest to make me want to check them out. Annoying people isnt the way to get their interest.

I believe there were actually laws passed here in the states prohibiting commercials from ntentionally raising the volume. But they don't seem to stick to it. Some entire channels have their volumes raised. I can watch Comedy Central at a reasonable volume, and switch over to Court TV and be blasted out of my chair.
And I'm half deaf.

You should watch those QVC channels, or the WB programming in the very early hours of the morning, where they sell overpriced jewelry and they always get some obnoxious redneck or cowboy-wannabe voicing over it. "Oh mwhy Gawd, it's the Pewpshewt diaomend, onwee $2000.99!" And then the annoying bastard rattles on for 45 minutes about it, and gets so loud and exhales so hard that you'd be suprised that he didn't pass out. Look man, I ain't deaf, I hear you! Assholes.

I'll be watching a television show at minimum volume, then the commercials go on and BAM! My ears have been ringing for the last two hours.
