please explain "anamorphic"

ana - "without"
morphic - "shape"

with widescreen tv's, the anamorphic transfers fill up the given space with image information, which means more horizontal data can be stored, which means a clearer image. thats why some of the non-anamorphic dont fill up even widescreen tvs.
