The only reason The Princess Diaries is doing better than The Others is because The Princess Diaries has more screens...

Here's the number of screens this weekends movies are getting released on.

JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK (2,765)
SUMMER CATCH (2,335)
GHOSTS OF MARS (2,048)
BUBBLE BOY (1,605)
CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION (903)

I think JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK could open with 20 Million... GHOSTS OF MARS could open with 12 Million. SUMMER CATCH could open with 7 or 8 Million. BUBBLE BOY could open with 4 Million. And CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION could open with 4 Million.

JAY AND SILENT BOB strikes out...somewhat. It should still make around $13 mil.. Not bad, but not as good as expected for a pretty wide release. I went to see JADE SCORPION at a matinee and snuck in to check out how many people were in the theater showing JaSBSB and was a bit surprised to see only about 50 people. So I knew it wasn't going to reach the $20 mil. weekend guesstimate I made.

Well, as expected, Bubble Boy opened outside the top ten. But I'm really glad that The Others is still going to depreciate in the 20's. It deserves to be seen.

Let me just say one thing, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE OTHERS GO SEE IT NOW! AND IF YOU HAVE SEE IT AGAIN! We can't have SUMMER CATCH making more dough!

But I'm glad THE OTHERS is hanging in there!

By the way here are the top ten.

1. American Pie 2 $ 12,802,000

2. Rush Hour 2 11,430,000

3. Jay And Silent Bob... 11,100,000

4. The Others 8,600,000

5. Rat Race 8,300,000

6. Summer Catch 7,540,000

7. The Princess Diaries 6,700,000

8. Captain Correli's Mandolin 3,877,000

9. John Carpenter's Ghosts Of Mars 3,800,000

10. Planet Of The Apes 3,530,000

And below the top ten you get the embarrassing openings of freshman the teen road trip comedy "Bubble Boy" and Dreamwork's period Woody Allen caper comedy "The Curse Of The Jade Scorpion".

This weekend only had one suprise for me which is that "Jay and Silent Bob" did not take the number one spot. It opened good on Friday but lost 23% of its audience on Saturday due to Smith's die hard fans racing out on Friday and not returning for a second laugh. "Summer Catch" did okay and was on par with Prizne's recent cinematic journeys "Boys and Girls" and "Down To You". But did better than this years 4.8 million opening for his "Head Over Heels". The other films were just horrible. "John Carpenter's Ghost Of mars" was sad because the story had potential but the director just gave up and made a dumb boring slasher. I have one questiong for Disney: Did you really think ticket buyers would pay for the bad "Bubble Boy"? Get a life! "Jade" opened on par with most peoples guesses.

The whole "Let's have a sneak peek of J&SBSB a week before it's released" idea proves to be quite fucking stupid.

although i was slightly disappointed with jsbsb's opening,i'm glad it will(with ease)make back all of it's money.this is definitely the funniest movie of the year, and it will be kevin smith's hightest grossing movie so far in his career.
