Could anyone explain to me what basically happens in the 4th Harry Potter book, The Goblet of Fire??

I would really appreciate it mainly because I meant to read it this week (I have had it since the first day it went on sale) but I was really busy trying to get a job (I am this close :D )

Anyhow, if anyone wants to do this, I will tell you were I am at...

I am right at the part (roughly page 120 I think) where Harry and Ron have just learned from Ron's father that they will be going to the Quidditich world cup...

¡§Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire¡¨

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a great story told by J. K. Rowling. It is about Harry a young Wizard at his 4th year of Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a school for young Witches and Wizards too learn Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry has gone through a lot during his years at Hogwarts. But nothing as grand as what is coming up for him this year. At Hogwarts there is going to be the Triwizard Tournament. The Triwizard Tournament consist of three tasks: getting past a Dragon and stealing one of their eggs, Get back what the MerPeople had taken from Harry and get through a maze filled with spells, monsters, and lots of surprises.

Harry is a far from average boy. His parents were both killed by ¡§The Dark Lord; Voldemort¡¨. But when Voldemort tried to kill Harry he was not able to. The Dark Lord had never not been able to kill a Witch or Wizard¡¦s soul. This made Harry famous beside the fact that he was a very talented Wizard. He now goes to a school for Witches and Wizards called Hogwarts This year there is a competition called ¡§The Triwizard Tournament¡¨. The Triwizard Tournament consist of a Witch or Wizard from each school who will compete in 3 tasks to win money. The Champions from each school must be over 17 to put there name in the Goblet of Fire( a goblet of fire that picks weather you are or are not be a school champion). There is only supposed to be one champion per school but Hogwarts some how got two, Cedric Diggory and¡K.. Harry Potter. Harry is only 14, so someone must have put his name in the goblet. The other Champions from Bauxbatons and Durmsatrang where Fleur Delucour and Viktor Krum.

The first task was in November. It was very difficult. Harry and the other champions had to get past a huge dragon and take one of their eggs. Harry was feeling a little nervous before the day of the task so he went to go talk with his new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Moody. Professor Moody is a very odd looking man. He has a wooden leg and one of his eyes was much bigger then the other. Everywhere Professor Moody would walk there would be a clank because of his wooden leg and if there ever was somebody around in Hogwarts with an invisibility cloak on Moody¡¦s bigger eye would be able to see the person. When Harry went to see Professor Moody he got some really good advice. Professor Moody told him to use a summoning charm. A summoning charm makes things far away come to you if you do the spell correctly. So when it came time to do the first task Harry wasn¡¦t as nervous but he was still nervous. When it was Harry¡¦s turn to get past the dragon he summoned his Fire Bolt (a brand of broomstick). He was able to get past the dragon and get the egg in the fastest time and put on the best show.

Harry did such a good job that people didn¡¦t tease him as much and Ron his old best friend had forgiven him because they were upset at each other before. After the first task Harry was supposed to figure out what the next task will be by using the egg he took from the dragon. Time was going by faster and faster and still Harry didn¡¦t try and figure out what to do with the egg. He decided to take some advice from another champion and go down to the prefect bathroom and take a bath with the egg. When he went under the water he heard a song. The song said that he would come seek us were oue voices sang and he would have to take back what they¡¦ve taken from them. He realized that he had to take something from the MerPeople in the lake.

For the next task Harry needed to learn how to breath underwater so Harry ,Ron, and Hermione had been going to the library every time they had the chance but he wasn¡¦t finding anything. It was the morning of the second task and Harry hadn¡¦t figured out how to breath under water. Harry had fallen asleep the night before in the library. Dobby a house elf who was very fond of Harry had figured it out for him. Dobby woke Harry and told him what to do. He needed to eat some Gilly Weed before entering the lake. When Harry got to the lake he found out that the Merpeople had kidnapped Ron and Hermione and Harry had to rescue Ron. When he was in the water he passed Grindylows and Moaning Myrtle who told him which way the MerPeople had gone with Ron. When Harry got to Ron, Hermione and the other two people the other champions had to rescue he wanted to rescue them all but the me people wouldn¡¦t let him they said he could task Ron and no one else. When Cedric and Viktor came they both took the person whom they had to rescue. But Fleur, the other champion, wasn¡¦t showing up and Harry was getting worried so he scared the Merpeople off and grabbed the little girl Gabrielle and Ron and swam up to the air. Harry was rewarded many points for being bold and rescuing both of them.

The next task wasn¡¦t until June. But it came very fast. The third task was to get through a maze filled with monsters and spells. Harry and Cedric got to enter the maze first because they had the most points. In the maze Harry ran into his biggest fear, a Dementor. A Dementor is a creature with no face that could suck your soul out of your body. He also ran into a huge spider but needed some help from Cedric to fight it off. When Harry and Cedric meet up again in front of the Triwizard cup which was the finish line they both didn¡¦t know who should touch it first so they touched at the same exact time. When they touched they where both transported to a graveyard where they meet with Lord Voldemort, which was not part of the tournament. When Voldemort saw Cedric he killed him right away. Harry was then tied up by Peter Pettigrew one of Voldemort¡¦s followers. Voldemort challenged Harry to a duel in front of all his followers. Harry didn¡¦t want to die a coward so he decided to fight like his father would have. Harry and Voldemort both cursed each other and it backed fired. All of the people Voldemort had killed started leaking out of his wand. His parents came out and told him to let go grab Cedric¡¦s body and run to the Triwizard cup so he could be transported back to Hogwarts.

When Harry got back to Hogwarts he was rewarded with the money the champion would get but he didn¡¦t want it. He found out his Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was Voldemorts biggest followers. He had set it up so that Harry would be transported, but Voldemort failed again for a forth time to kill him. On the way back home to live with the Dursleys during the summer break Harry gave Fred and George Weasley, Ron¡¦s brothers the Triwizard money to open a joke shop. Harry thought since The Dark Lord was back there will be a depression and people will need some laughs to get their minds off all the craziness in the world.

What I got from it was:

1. Professor Moody turned out to be Peter Petigrew?? One of Voldemort's biggest followers.. Or were there two followers?
2. Are the Merpeople kind of like Mermaids?? Able to breath under water like Mermaids??
3. Was anyone else able to complete the Triwizard competition besides Harry???

The part at the end about Harry giving Fred and George Weasley the money to open up a joke shop WAS in the copy of OOTP I had until you told me it was fake... Maybe some was fake...

Nope, Moody was really Barty Croach's son, Barty Croach Jr., he stayed loyal to voldemort.

Yeah the merpeople were mermaids but not beatiful they looked evil and ugly.

Yes, Cedric Diggory, Fluer Delocour, and Viktor Krum.

There is much more you should know but I'm too lazy to type it all, Plus J.K.R. always says stuff like, Just last year Harry saved alanner from the evil monkey or something like that.
