ALEX & EMMA
Directed by Rob Reiner
Starring Luke Wilson, Kate Hudson, and Sophie Marceau

Rating: 6/10

I was pretty disappointed with this movie. Not that I expected it to be outstanding or anything, but it was not the best. Alex & Emma comes nowhere close to Rob Reiner's other "story-within-a-story" movie, The Princess Bride (10/10). There was okay chemistry between the two leads, but the plot had major problems. The Cuban mafia thing seemed out of place (they're in Boston!) and was never really resolved (at least not on screen). The scenes from the book seemed very fake and artifical, unlike well done period scenes in films like Pearl Harbor and Plesantville. I also just don't see anyone being able to spit out a whole novel in 30 days like that. And when (SPOILERS**) it turns out that the french girl was a real person, it just seemed too unbelievable that this scruffy guy ever really knew this girl. I just didn't buy it. (END SPOILER**) It was a little better than Kate Hudson's other romantic comedy this year, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but not by much. Skip this one or at least wait for video.
