The two greatest films ever made according to the AFI and two of my all time favorite films. Which one do you think is the better movie? Vote.
For me, Citizen Kane definitely has the edge here...
Citizen Kane is far superior.

Casablanca is probably on my top 200, although Citizen Kane is on my top 5. So Citizen Kane it is.

Seems a bit one sided right now, and I'm no different than the rest of you.

And the lone wolf cries out: casablanca! Definatley the superior film here. Although Citizen kane is a good film (in my top 50), Casablanca is number two (or tied for number one)

Kane is my #12 of all-time, Casablanca wouldn't crack the top 100, though both are 10/10's.

Citizen Kane by far. One of my favorite movies, in my top 50, while Casablanca...eh...
I'd be indebted to anyone who would take on the task of explaining to me just WHY Casablanca is so engrossing (I realize it has a great script, and is an original concept...but...there is no interest to keep it all going)

Citizen Kane, but only by a hair, and that edge given because of the brilliant direction. I think Casablanca has the superior screenplay.

CASABLANCA easily.
Citizen Kane by miles. Great direction and acting by Welles, and you've gotta love Cotten. The story was far more intriuging than the bland Casablanca, and Kane is a fascinating character.. I didn't really care about any of the characters in Casablanca.

Citizen Kane. Both great, both in my top 10, but look to the left and you'll see that one has to be better.

Casablanca is the better film
What I am about to say will have many people wanting my head
Citizen Kane is by far one of the most overrated film of alltime. Is Citizen Kane a good film? Yes it is but to call it the greatest American Film of alltime like AFI did is just laughable did it desreve to be on the list? Maybe but more like in the high nineties not number one.

*possible spoilers, maybe?*
I know it's an opinion but since you asked.....Casablanca truly is a highly original concept and you are right, Annie Hall, the script is wonderful, I don't really need to explain because most people probably already knows how good the concept and screenplay is. I read in other posts that you thought Casablanca lacked entertainment value, but I think just seeing Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman sizzle on screen in the movie, even if they didn't have THAT much screen time together, it just works. The flashback scene to when Rick and Ilsa were in Paris together was amazingly done and just that one long scene made me relate to them and get to know the love that they have for one another. Rick is a flawed hero, he may seem tough on the outside and say that he 'sticks his neck out for nobody', but deep inside he really is a sentimentalist and at the end, him helping Ilsa and Victor Laszlo escape, truly shows that he cares about her. He knows that Ilsa needs to stay with who's most important to her, and that's Laszlo, her husband. But even if they are not together, they will both forever have that love, that love they shared in Paris. It might not be fast paced but like Citizen Kane, you have to really get into the story and relate to the characters, which I did, and I found it highly romantic and entertaining. So imo, Casablanca is definitely a quintessential classic, a true love story, that will always live in my heart. I would encourage you to give it a second try, Miss Hall, maybe you'll like it more. :)
But having said the things I said, it still cannot hold a candle to Citizen Kane. But then again, no film can. :p

Citizen Kane
As much as I really like Casablanca, both Bogart and Bergman have done better work in other films.

Casablanca for sure.
Citizen Kane is a good movie, well made and acted. But I just didn't get emotionally involved with the movie. It's one of those movies that is easy to admire hard to love.
