Release Date: TBA 2004

Cast: Milla Jovovich (Alice), Eric Mabius (Matt Addison, AKA Nemesis); other cast not announced yet.

Based Upon: This is the sequel to the 2002 horror film, Resident Evil, which grossed $39.7 million in the U.S. on a budget of $35 million. Both movies are based on the very popular video game series, with the first movie being a prequel of sorts to the original 'Resident Evil' game, and this movie loosely adapting the third game, 'Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.' Premise: Picking up where the end of the first movie left off, an elite military agent, Alice (Jovovich), finds herself stranded in the ruins of Raccoon City folowing a virus outbreak which has turned the city's inhabitants into bloodthirsty zombies. Searching for a way to contain the virus, Alice also teams up with other survivors, who include Jill Valentine (the key heroine from the games), who finds herself being hunted down by a massive monster called Nemesis (Mabius) with ties to Alice, and the tendency to moan 'Starrrrssss' a lot.

Filming: Production is scheduled to start on August 11th, 2003 in Toronto on a budget rumored to be as high as $50 million.

Genre: Action, Eye Candy, Female, Horror, Science Fiction, Sequel, Video Game

I loved the first one! I hope they use more monsters of the game in the sequel (Tyrant or Mr X for example)

I have no idea why Anderson is changing so much of the storyline. It has a solidified mythology much the same as LOTR or The Terminator franchises. Nothing I can do about it, but needless to say I'm disappointed.

I saw RESIDENT EVIL (6/10 or C+) in the theater and was disappointed. My friend who saw it with me was also disappointed. I then saw it two times once it hit video, and I came to accept it for what it was. My rating didn't change, but after seeing it again my rating of a 6/10 (C+) was more solid. That being said, I'm looking forward to the sequel. I think it will easily be better than the original. The plot sounds better, the budget will be a little bigger, and I think the rest of the cast will be better. I'm expecting it to be more fun. I'll definitely see it!

I think I liked Resident Evil, I can't really remember. I think I gave it a 6 or 7/10....

The sequel sounds like an improvement over the original so I'll check it out.

Didn't you first give it a 9/10?

I thought you said the original sucked? I remember you calling it boring.

For what the movie was, I liked it, in a 7/10 way. But since I always liked the second game better than the first, I think this could be a really good zombie movie. The first movie took place in a drab lab facility, while this takes place in a zombie-infested city. With that, it has a lot more potential. It could end up as an American 28 Days Later

Yeah, I remember you saying it in my 2002 Movie Tournament. Man, that's pretty bad you can't even remember what you thought of it and it just came out in 2002---are you sure you aren't my mom? :D;) (no offense to my real mom ;))

I didn't like the first RE what-so-ever, and a sequel is just what I need.

In case you didn't know, that was sarcasm.

The first movie wasn't an oscar-worthy performance by any means, but it was still fairly good (7/10), and as soon as I saw that final scene setting up zombies infesting the cities I have been thirsty for more !! :D

This movie has great value as a sequel, and it should do well. I hope to expect the same quality as the first.

I was also disappointed with the first one. My rating goes arround in circles(6/10-7/10) but I decided to give it a 6/10 or C+. The sequel sounds great and it should be much better than the original. And if its bad, at least I can ejoy it watching Milla Jovovich.

The problem that i believe was in the first one was that it wasn't based on the first game. It was a prequel. That got me disappointed. But, i really enjoyed it when i saw it in theaters. But, later when i rented it on video, my enjoyment decreased. But, i still like the movie. I'll give it a C+. But, im not sure about how the next one will turn out, since it would be mostly based on the characters from the third game, and not from the second. The second game was my favorite! The third was my least favorite, out of the trilogy. I haven't played any of the other Resident Evil games besides Gun Survivor, which sucked in my opinion. But, like i said to my friend a while ago, "What the fuck do you mean that the mini-series of the Shining was better than the movie version?" To his deffence he said "It was more true to the book". That's just bullshit! I believe that the movie was better than the mini-series for many reasons!

But, the point im trying to make is that, it all matters on how good the movie is, and not how true it's too the book. How many out there really care that the shinning wasn't totally true to the novel?

The same goes for the Resident Evil 2: the movie, even though it might not be totally true to the games, doesn't mean it should get trashed. But, for me, it's disapointing that i won't get to see the version i wanted to see, but, hopefully i will get to see a good movie anyway. And that's what counts, the quality of the movie.

Now, there is a big exception "A Street car named Desire". The change in this movie wasn't to make the movie better, or sell tickets, it was a politically correct type of chance.

Also, the movie shoudn't be altered to sell tickets, but for quality. But, the point of a movie is to make money.

I think i lost the point i was trying to make. But, anyway, i think i need to take a asprin.

You're absolutely right that the quality of the movie is what counts. So that's why I believe that Anderson's change wasn't for the better. The movie was as fast paced and 1-dimensional as the average video game, but the games were as good as some of the best movies (except dialogue of course ie. "you....the master of unlocking" lol :p. Barry cracks me up). Funny, I think.

Again, I wouldn't be against change if it's an improvement, which the first movie was not. I can't speak for the second, since it hasn't even begun filming yet.

But I must say I'm a bit flustered by "adaptation discrimination", as I have come to call it. It's okay for some franchises, when adapted into film, to be screwed around with and completely reworked from its existing story (like RE or basically any number of video games that have been pissed all over just because they're video games - they're like Rodney Dangerfield: they get no respect), but it's considered highway robbery when it comes to other series being changed (like Spider-man, LOTR, etc.). I've heard complaints from Spider fans about how Peter Parker's webbing has a different origin than the comics, and how it was ***SPIDER-MAN COMIC SPOILERS****Gwen Stacy, not Mary Jane, who was dropped off the bridge by the Goblin***END SPOILERS****. Then there were the LOTR fanatics who were complaining about Faramir not being the same type of Faramir in The Two Towers novel.

Boo-frigging-hoo. Compared to us RE fanatics, you guys got off easy :p

P.S. And the Licker is one of the easiest enemies (yes, as in regular enemies, not bosses) in the entire series. What does that tell you?

How much did the original Resident Evil end up making in the US anyways? I didn't think it made enough to warrant a sequel.

In theaters it made about $40 million, and likely did the same or more on rentals....and the overall budget of advertising and production was $53 million so it did well enough.

also, any casting news on this?

Crap! $40 Million? I really didn't check Box Office results when the movie came out, but man, that's better than I thought.

Yeah, if I were a studio executive, I would definitely give the greenlight to a sequel. It's better than finding this generation's Godfather, right?

I'm glad Eric Mabius is returning. I like that guy. And I'm glad Nemesis is getting an adaptation, best entry in the series imo.
Sounds good to me...

Though I don't like how they tweaked the mythos.....

RE: Nemesis creeped me out more than any other in the series because that damn monster would always jump out when it was least expected and chase after you repeating STARRRRRSSSSSSS! I hope that element is repeated in the film, which looks from the end of the first movie to be a better setup than what the original had. Also, people talk about the first being a prequel, wasn't the idea somewhat similar to the setup for the first RE game in the mansion, since the film was also set in a mansion/laboratory.
