For me, Columbia Rocks. I think their DVD are the best... What's your favorite? Warner, Paramount , Universal, Fox...?

The Criterion Collection is by far the best... think "Beastie Boys Anthology", "Sid & Nancy", "The Seven Samurai", "Spartacus", "The Rock"...

New Line Cinema's Platinum Series is a close second... think "Boogie Nights", "Seven", "Magnolia", Detroit Rock City", "Brazil" etc...

Hands down, my vote goes to the Platinum Series, mostly because they've given such great special treatment to many of my favorite films, just see the list Brock posted above.

Criterion's good but alot of their movies are obscure titles which don't feally float my boat. (Although the Beastie's, The Rock and Chasing Amy are 3 of my favorite DVDs)

An other studio which deserve mentions is Dreamworks, who rarely release poor DVDs.

Yeah New Line, Don't forget Dark City and The Cell.

I'm a big fan of the FOX dvds. X-men, Fight Club, The Abyss... all are quality discswith tons of extras, and I am sure there are many more. I hate Warner Bros, though. Their discs are always bare and I hate the cardboard packaging. These dvd's are here for the long haul, folks! plastic cases are the way to go.

PhilR, I'm totally with you about Warner.

I have never ran into a bad MGM DVD either.

On the down side, I hear Paramount skimps on the extras. True or not?

Columbia Tristar is good (e.i. "Charlie's Angels)
Dreamworks (e.i. Gladiator, Chicken Run)
Universal (e.i. Bring it On, The Family Man)

All of those movies have lots of cool extras

Anchor Bay puts out some good dvds. They seem to find the most obscure movies out there, and give them the gold-star treatment...cleaned-up video, surround sound, and as many extras as they can get their hands on. I highly recommend them.

1) New Line; I have 5 Platinum Series discs ("Dark City," "Pleasantville," "Rush Hour," "The Cell," "The Sweet Hereafter"), and none have disappointed.

2) Criterion is definitely next; have "The Rock" & "Charade"

3) Dreamworks or Universal's Collector's Editions; not a dud yet

New Line Platinum Series- These guys really put out a great DVD! They always have great featurettes(Behind the Science on "Frequency" and the diary on "Magnolia"). They also put out great DVDs with "Final Destination" and "The Corruptor".

Universal Studios Collector Editions- They always give the great movies (the first two "Jurassic Park" movies and "The Family Man") a lot of extras.

MGM,Dreamworks, and Sony always puts out great DVDs too.

Warner Bros. on the other hand barely ever puts out a great DVDs.

JFK is a great exception to the rule, it's a 2-disk set!

The best is New Line's Infinifilm, you can't get no better then that, they give the best extras. Following close behind that is probaly Fox, I love there interactive menus.

Here's an example of why infinifilm is the best:

Infinifilm:
The movie can also be experienced with the infinifilm option enabled, allowing you to access content specifically relating to the scenes via pop-up promts that appear on screen. Explore. Escape. Interact. Take your movie-watching experience to a whole new level. Go Beyond the Movie and discover the fasinating facts and intriguing stories surronding your favorite films!Afterwards, you are returned to the movie right where you left off.

Momentum are cool, I agree, they're bringing out Due South next year, one of my fave TV shows. Fox have shown the Region 2 crowd a lot of love, they released Buffy Season 1-3, Angel, Family Guy. Predator and Speed Special Editions are being released by Fox on Region 2 before Region 1, which is cool.

My vote goes to Criterion by far. They have continually put out awesome movies with awesome extras, from Chasing Amy to Notorious to Life of Brian to The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. And c'mon, what other distributor puts out a three-disc set of Brazil?

So far I think Columbia/TriStar is pretty good with their DVDs. New Line and Fox rock as well.

I'd also like to add my vote of confidence to Anchor Bay. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Weapon X

The thing is, distributors aren't exactly consistent with the effort they put into their DVDs. For example, Fox goes all-out for Alien, Aliens, and their entire 5-Star Collection, but movies like Predator gets a trailer and nothing else. Good thing they're doing the Special Edition treatment on that one...at least I hope they do it for Region 1...

Besides that, Columbia-Tristar is currently top of my list (Final Fantasy, A Knight's Tale, Hollow Man), as is Anchor Bay (Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, the upcoming Highlander "Immortal Edition"). I don't have any Criterion DVDs yet, so I can't comment on them...

Paramount sucks. Even if the movie is a hit they still dont give it shit for extras.

Yep Paramount is the asshole of distribution! They do skimp with extras, they are like a hooker between clients, they only take a washcloth bath as oppossed to a nice long shower! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/tongue.gif They especially treat their horror movies like Bastard Children! Bunch of fuckers! I hate Martin Blythe! Hey everyone write this assmunch and complain!!! Demand Extras damnit! We deserve them by God!!!! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/mad.gif

Totally!
Not that ThereWolf is getting soft on "Titanic" but you'd think that for the highest grossing movie of all time, they'd add more extras than just the damn theatrical trailer!

Anyway, for best ThereWolf would have to say;

New Line- "Magnolia", "Se7en", and even movies like "Little Nicky" get the royal treatment on DVD.

Fox- "The Phantom Menace", "Planet Of The Apes", "Cast Away", "Fight Club". Fox damn sure doesn't skimp when it comes to extras!

New Line consistently showers its DVDs with love and attention to detail. I've got Boogie Nights, Austin Powers, Magnolia, Dark City, The Sweet Hereafter, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and it appears that whoever's in charge of putting these packages together adores these films as much as I do.

Special mention for MGM DVDs: They don't seem to be copyguarded. I've only got two (Phantasm and Blue Velvet), but I've run my player through my VCR to make copies and they turn out fine; this is the only major studio that allows this I believe.

My vote goes to MGM. this is because they release many good titles at cheap prices which aren't that well known, such as:

Breakheart Pass
Scanners
Eye Of The Needle
Southern Comfort
Retroactive

Yes, but they really should put more effort into them! When they put out a SE, they do a great job of it, at least judging from "Hannibal." However, I wish they'd do it for "Blue Velvet." (I bought it anyway cuz I couldn't wait for it, might be a few years before it happens!)
