WINDTALKERS - Looked like great, epic entertainment, but the focus was on all the wrong characters (it's called WINDTALKERS and not SAD NICOLAS CAGE for a reason).
DEATH TO SMOOCHY - Some moments of greatness overshadowed by those of flatness.
THE RECRUIT - Pacino and Farrell in a bland CIA flick. What's not to be disappointed with?
DREAMCATCHER - This isn't the spooky, atmospheric flick I saw in the ads. They didn't mention anything about shit weasels...

Windtalkers was definately a big dissapointment.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, while I still like the movie, it was nowhere near the movie I thought it was going to be.
Human Nature was another.
The Matrix Reloaded was not even fun to watch.

Daredevil
Could've been an entertaining comic book movie with some humor by Favreau and great action scenes. What they gave us was 90 minutes of asscock, with terrible MTV editing, bad acting by nearly all involved, pretention, poor writing, flat humor, plot holes, and just the overall sense of boredom. Literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
XXX
See above.
Dreamcatcher
Could've been a creepy thriller which had a somewhat interesting plot. What they gave us was ass-spewing monsters in a movie that fails in every imaginable way.
The Matrix Reloaded
I gave this a 7/10, but it could've been so much more. With the promise of the Burly Brawl, the Highway Chase, a look at Zion, and great buzz before the test screenings. They screwed the movie up by having a boring as sin first 45 minutes, showed us a Mad Max version of Zion, drowned the movie in 658468 conversations about choice, freedom, people talking about choice, and so on and so on. Contrary the many internet conversations, it's not deep philosophy. It's just a series of conversations that don't mean anything, hidden behind the words the Wachowski's used once they found an Oxford thesaurus. Not to mention how almost every fight had Neo, which were almost always boring fights, considering HE'S A FUCKING GOD, HENCE, NO SUSPENSE AT ALL

My Big Fat Greek Wedding
XXX, while it was mildly entertaining, I was expecting more (not on a brains level, but just an entertaining, popcorn level)
Windtalkers I agree with the assessment it focused on the wrong characters. Here was a great, interesting part of history that's seldomly taught in schools and they just seemed to blow it every step of the way.

The Matrix: Reloaded -- Not a completely bad film in its own right, but all the hype surrounding it had me expecting something jaw dropping. Talk about disappointment.

Dreamcatcher... ya thats pretty much it. All of the other movies I hyped up in my head ended up being good these past 2 years. Dreamcatcher was one that didnt end up in that catagory, mostly because how different the ads were from the final product. Still a 6.5/10 for being weird though.

1) Dreamcatcher. A really silly film, nothing like the previews made it out to be.

Gangs of New York (5.5/10) - I want to see it again, but until I do, I consider it the big disappointment of 2002-03. This movie looked so great in the trailers, plus the fact that it was the most passionate of one of the most talented directors out their today, but it turned out to be a real letdown. Interesting history and one phenomenal peformance, yes, but the screenplay was surprisingly sloppy and the story couldn't stay focused or interesting. A shame. :(
The Hulk too. It wasn't bad, but it could've great. It should've been great. But it wasn't great.

Only one has really disappointed me so far this year... 28 Days Later. Such a shame... If we go back into '02, that would require thought on my part, something which I'm not willing to commit to at this particular moment...

1. The Hulk: I understand what Lee was trying to do, but it felt cyclical, and I never understood or felt empathy for the character of Bruce Banner. I'm convinced that Lee is not a very good storyteller, as the use of wipes and split screen, etc. became really overdone. Not a terrible film, it has its plus points (CGI, Jennifer Connelly's performance), but it's really a disappointment.
2. Gangs of New York: a botched work from the great Martin Scorsese; despite what he constantly says, I don't feel this version is the definitive one, as there seems to be a lack of focus on the story/characters and some general confusion.
3. Minority Report: not what I hoped it would be, it turned into a halfbaked version of the Fugitive once it was beginning to unload it's intriguing ideas.
That's about it, can't think of too many disappointing films. I lowered my expectations for a lot of them, that's why.

GANGS OF NEW YORK ...could have been so much better. The production values were fantastic, the script was very good, and the performances above-par. But thanks to choppy editing, a somehow odd plot structure (i.e. a way too short third act in favour of more screentime for a basically pointless love story), and a very annoying score, it's only a 6/10.
THE MATRIX RELOADED It's not a real disappointment since my expectations were very low. However, I'm still trying to figure what the Wachowskis did with the $160 million budget (I don't see much of it on the screen) and why they tried so hard to write a George Lucas-style screenplay. A generous 5/10
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN ...a nice piece of fluff that just can't come to an end. It goes on and on and on and on and... yawn! Spielberg has to learn that comedies don't necessarily have to be over two hours long. 6/10
DREAMCATCHER ...Screenplay: William Goldman, based on a novel by Stephen King, a cast including Morgan Freeman, Jason Lee, and Tom Sizemore, and directed by Lawrence Kasdan. Bloody delicious ingredients for 2003's biggest shit-pie (so far). 3/10
RIPLEY'S GAME ...THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY was very good, and THE AMERICAN FRIEND (based on the same Highsmith novel as RIPLEY'S GAME) is excellent. I'm a huge fan of John Malkovich and the movie's composer, Ennio Morricone, but RIPLEY'S GAME was just plain bad. Dougray Scott's and the Lena Headey's performances are atrocious, the screenplay is chockfull of corny lines, and the score is the perfect cure against insomnia. And why did they have to dub almost all German and Italian actors. Damn, it looks like they didn't even try to get the lip movements in sync with the voices. 5/10 - would be a 3/10 without Mr. Malkovich!
